My girlfriend took me here for my birthday, we were drawn in by its reputation for inventive dishes and polished atmosphere. While some aspects of the meal lived up to the hype, others fell frustratingly short.

Let’s start with the highlight: the pork katsu. This dish was flawless—a perfect golden crust that shattered with each bite, encasing tender, juicy meat. Paired with a well-balanced sauce and thoughtful accompaniments, it was easily one of the best dishes I’ve had in a while.

Unfortunately, the same can’t be said for the jerk octopus. The flavors were promising on paper, but the execution left much to be desired. The octopus was overcooked—chewy, gummy, and tough to enjoy(I couldn’t even cut through it with my knife). When I brought this up with the waitress (Chloe) her response was disappointing. She said, “That’s how we cook it, and there’s nothing wrong with it.” I’ve had octopus many times and it has never been chewy or gummy like that. While I appreciate that kitchens have their own methods, a dismissive attitude toward constructive feedback is not what I’d expect from a restaurant of this caliber and this left my girlfriend and I extremely disappointed and let down.

Overall, Crown Shy delivers in some areas (that pork katsu is worth a visit alone) but falls short in others, particularly when it comes to consistency and respect from customer service. It’ll be difficult for me to recommend this to friends and family.

Great evening with amazing service.  We were seated next to the kitchen (similar to a kitchen table) and were entertained by culinary expertise.  Food was unique in preparation, and portions were perfect, so you could try a few dishes without filling up.  We will return to try dessert.

I came here with a friend in early December on a cold evening for an early dinner at 6:00pm. I booked the reservation a few days in advance. The entrance to the restaurant can be a little difficult to find, but just know that you can access it from any door leading into the lobby of 70 Pine.

I have been wanting to try this restaurant for a long time and I was not disappointed. The food was delicious. We really enjoyed the complimentary bread that came with meal which was like nothing we had ever tasted. We ordered two entrees and two starters which was plenty food for us. The service was also great, but not exceptional. The prices were also reasonable for a New York City restaurant of this caliber.

Based on our experience, I would be very excited to go back or recommend this restaurant to anyone

Overall, a pleasant experience. I enjoyed most of the dishes I tried. The service was friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere was inviting.
Their happy hour menu offers a great selection of food and drinks. We ended up choosing the hummus from the happy hour menu, along with a few dishes from the regular dinner menu.

It was a five-star evening all around, from the food and drinks to the service and ambiance. While the evening didn’t start perfectly on time—our party was late due to a scheduling mix-up—the team’s graciousness turned what could have been an awkward situation into an opportunity to feel genuinely valued. When we explained the delay and offered to begin ordering while waiting for our friends to arrive, the staff was not only accommodating but also expressed heartfelt appreciation for our thoughtfulness. Their understanding and kindness set the tone for what became an extraordinary evening.

Unmatched Hospitality: Our server, Adrien, epitomized hospitality—gracious, knowledgeable, and deeply attentive without ever being intrusive. Adrien’s expert recommendations, from cocktails to dessert pairings, elevated the entire dining experience. The team’s generosity throughout the night was truly touching, especially when they surprised us with additional desserts to thank us for our mindfulness earlier in the evening. It was a simple yet profoundly generous gesture that left a lasting impression on all of us.

Exceptional Cocktails & Wines: We kicked off with the Oro Maya cocktails, a stunning mix of flavors that was both refreshing and sophisticated. Transitioning to the wine list for the main courses felt seamless, thanks to Adrien’s thoughtful guidance. To cap off the meal, an amaro recommended by Adrien paired perfectly with dessert, adding a beautifully complex note to the end of our evening.

Divine Dishes, Perfectly Balanced: The food was nothing short of spectacular, each dish a masterpiece of flavor, balance, and presentation. The complementary pull apart bread with butter was so delicious and perfect, we were floored. We started with the oysters (grapes, elderberry, and kombucha) that were so divine we immediately ordered a second round. From there, the hamachi crudo (citrus and dashi) and the tuna toast (pineapple and chorizo) took the meal to another level. The tuna toast was, without exaggeration, one of the best bites we’ve ever had—we could have easily eaten a dozen more.

For mains, the charred carrots with razor clams and the branzino with squash mole and Brussels sprouts delivered bold, beautiful flavors and textures that reflected the kitchen’s impeccable creativity.

Show-Stopping Desserts: Dessert was, without question, one of the highlights of the evening. We ordered the sticky toffee pudding for two (pecan and apple sorbet), a warm and comforting end to the meal. But the most unforgettable desserts came as a surprise from the team—a gesture of appreciation that made the night feel truly special. The satsuma orange ice cream with honey and toasted marshmallow and the horchata ice cream with chocolate and churros were absolutely dreamy. Both were unique and amazing, perfectly crafted, and left us savoring every bite.

Jag besökte Crown Shy den 10 / 16 . Min dotter och jag väntade i 45 minuter stående vid ett barbord och väntade på att få sitta vid baren. Vi turades om att sitta vid dörrens entré medan jag beställde en drink. Platsen var mycket bullriga och det fanns en pudel som strövade runt barområdet. Efter ungefär en timme kom vår beställning av kladdig kolapudding för två och vi satte oss i baren. Puddingens nötter brändes. Som kompensation för Matens kvalitet och dryck fick vi drycken gratis. Jag kunde inte tro att platsen har en Michelinstjärna.

Det var en rolig upplevelse att äta här. Maten är riktigt bra, inte bra, men mycket bra. Servicen var exceptionell och atmosfären är trevlig och bekväm.

Huruvida det är 'värt' sin Mich 1 - stjärna är en dum sak att debattera. 
Det är en mycket trevlig restaurang, withfriendly på - punkt service som gav oss några riktigt utmärkt mat. Menyn var uppfinningsrik, och ganska glad över hela linjen. 

Hur står den sig i jämförelse med andra 1 - stjärnor jag besökt? Bättre än vissa, inte lika bra som vissa andra. 

Mitt enda fel med den här anläggningen är att den är extremt högljudd. Det är en personlig fråga, du kanske inte har något emot det. Rummen är vackra, men om det har gjorts några professionella akustiska behandlingar här, de fungerar inte. 
Jag kan uppskatta en livlig, högljudd atmosfär. Din här var något bra mer än så. Hiphopmusiken - som är fantastiskt passande för restaurangens tema och i många andra rum skulle vara njutbar - bidrar helt enkelt till allmän suddig kakafoni här. 
Om inte du och vem du än är med är bekväm ganska skrikande på varandra under hela onsdag kväll middag här, kommer konversation inte riktigt ett genomförbart alternativ vid någon tidpunkt. 
Så i detta avseende (åtminstone i min bok) är det inte "den" typen av Michelin-stjärnig restaurang. Den sorten jag är mer van vid.

Maten är här är enastående. Guyere Fritters och Spicy Tonfisk Förrätter är fantastisk, Snap Peas Sallad är fantastisk. Bläckfisk/Chorizo Ramper är härliga och Roasted Short Rib och Pork Katsu är båda spektakulära. Servitriserna är grymma. Sammantaget en mycket trevlig måltid och de gör en vit (Cantaloupe & Kamomill) Negroni som är... lite annorlunda. Deras normala Negroni är v’air nice också, med Botanist Gin. Rekommenderar denna plats och en fantastisk atmosfär med öppet kök...

Otroligt! Atmosfären, personalen, drinkarna, maten! , 5 stjärnor! Jag njöt av La Pistola, Ostron, Branzino, Sticky Toffee Pudding och Espresso Martini. Mums! Mums! Mums!

Jag bestämde mig för att äta här i veckan eftersom detta var på Eaters heta NYC restauranglista. Vi började med varsin cocktail som faktiskt var billigare än vin vid glaset. Efter min cocktail bad jag om ett glas Chardonnay och servern kom över menyn eftersom ett glas kostade 34 dollar. Vi började med gruyere frites och hummus med puffbröd och 'njuda. Det här var kvällens bästa rätter. Vi åt sedan kyckling, bläckfisk och ricottaknyten. Kycklingen var god, bläckfisken var tuggig och klimparna var salta. Servicen var bra, men jag är förvånad över att varken värdinnan eller servern visste historien om byggnaden vi var i eftersom det är en historisk art déco-byggnad byggd på 1920-talet.

Vilken dold pärla! Vi kollade in en bar på taket och hamnade i denna pärla! Stämningen var fantastisk, ostronen var fantastiska och drinkarna var på punkt!

Jag vet inte hur den här restaurangen har en Michellinstjärna. Medelmåttig mat. Saknar smak och fantasi. Otrevlig personal på det hela taget. Sno drinkar 90 % is.

Servrar är artiga hjälpsamma och vänliga - ledningen är inte. Drinkarna är is i princip. Inredningen är bra atmosfär är bullrigt lite brash.

Vi åt några utmärkta rätter innan vi åkte till en Broadway show. Vår favoriträtt var kammusslorna. Många intressanta rätter vi inte provade men skulle älska att gå tillbaka för. 

Några kritiska punkter: Akustiken i rummet är inte bra och det är för högt för att ha en anständig konversation utan att behöva höja rösten till den nivå som bordet bredvid dig kan höra hela din konversation. Dessutom skulle vi ha velat ut servitör(er) att checka in på oss lite oftare.

Verklig NY-plats med underbar mat och service. Fantastiska cocktails. Riktigt avkopplande och roligt ställe att besöka.

Räkna med en måltid med en innovativ blandning av ingredienser med lysande smaker som skapar detta mästerverk på en tallrik. Tjänsten var lite avslappnad men på ett mycket bra sätt. Vår servitör var uppmärksam men avslappnad, vilket skapade en lätt atmosfär vid bordet. Dra isär olivbröd med gräddfil och havssalt, Yea - Delicious. Började med 3 små plattor. Gruyere Fritter som är välsmakande i någonsin mening. De ser ut som churros och mitt sinne vill äta den och förväntar sig söt kanel stekt degen men det är en välsmakande mindf * ck. Salt, smörgåsig, smältig greyereost rinner genom denna smöriga bakverk. Grymt bra. Rostad morot som simmar i rakknivskum, aldrig skulle jag trodda musslor och morötter men det fungerar. Morötter kokta igenom med en lätt röding på utsidan. Razor musslor buljong och skum ger ett havssalt / salthalt till de jordiska förkolade morötter. Bra ide. De honung squash med granatäpple var naturligt sött med den pop av frukt. Bra presentationer. Förrätter var inget undantag. Min vän beställde Branzino. Rostade och rakade Brussel-groddar och rakad gurka på en mittdelad, 2 filet färsk fångst. Gurkan var någonsin så lätt närvarande som verkligen höjde skålen. Jag hade vakteln över farro. Som vi vet vaktel är liten och lätt överkokt, detta var en bra storlek och del och perfekt rostad. Jusen påminde om en köttbuljong men inte lika djärv. Absorberad av faren som förde sin egen halvkokta konsistens och smaker som passar perfekt med vakteln. Efterrätten var honungisboxkaka och bananglass med karamellpopcorn aka craker jacks på toppen. Jag berömmer denna restaurang för att endast servera australiska viner under denna behovstid. En del av vinerna går till Koala sjukhus i NSW och för det australiensiska Röda korset. Jag började med en pinot noir från Adelaide Hills med namnet "The Sabre", sedan en McLaren Vale Shiraz märkt Sherrah och slutade med The Sticky Stump Jump av d'Arenberg. Skål!

Min man och jag är foodies och vi ätit den förberedande lunchen. Rustik mat, men kreativ, väl förberedd och snyggt presenterad. Det var semestern och regnade utanför, och restaurangen är minimalistisk i stil, men de hade trevliga semesterdekorationer så det kändes lite varmare och välkomnande. Tjänsten var utmärkt. Om du gillar kreativa rätter och mat, är det värt ett försök. Det är inte super fancy, men det är inte den restaurangens avsedda atmosfär.

Menyn var uppfinningsrik och maten utsökt och serverades fantasifullt. Jag beställde deras ta på lasagne och den kom snedställd i ett bad med parmesanskum. Alla våra desserter var fantastiska, alla var en mycket smakrik glass / sorbet med en intressant toppning och sås. Vi hade: apelsinglass med rostad marshmallow dockop beströdd med crunchy honung merengue bitar, Granny Smith apple glass med toffee-liknande sås och rostad bananglass med karamell popcorn på toppen. Jag ger smak och presentation höga betyg. Tjänsten var mestadels bra. Nöjd att vi inte var rusade trots att vi tog 2 timmar till lunch. Säg för att vi inte gav oss bröd förrän vi hade sittat där ganska länge. Men vattnet hölls fullt. Det är dyrt! Lunch var cirka $ 60 per person med skatt och tips (ingen alkohol). Men det var värt det, vi hade en mycket bra upplevelse där.

ps - Jag var lite kall, eftersom luftkonditionering blåste på mig trots att det var en regnig vinterdag. . . men guldstjärna för att vara rymlig och inte för högljudd som de flesta platser.

Jag gick ut på onsdag kväll för att dricka / äta med 3 andra kvinnliga chefer. Vi bestämde oss för att pröva Crown Shy på ett infall eftersom det är på gatan från vårt kontor. Medan vi inte hade reservationer, anlände vi klockan 5: 23 och fick höra att ett bord var tillgängligt, men vi skulle ändå inte sitta förrän 5: 30, och att de behövde bordet tillbaka med 7: 30. Vi var bra med det, bekräftade att vi förstod och inte hade några bekymmer om tidsstötaren. Vi frågade om vi kunde gå till bordet och fick höra att vi behövde vänta de sju minuterna, men att vi kunde gå till baren. En gång i baren var det ingen som satt vid matborden. Verkligen? Du fick oss att vänta 7 minuter för att gå till ett tomt bord? Jag får det om du inte sitter på gäster förrän klockan 5: 30 - om det var det, så säg det bara, snarare än att bara säga att du måste vänta. Barpersonalen kunde inte ha varit vackrare - och vi hade 6 hela minuter att uppskatta dem. En gång vid bordet och efter att ha gett vår beställning till vår servitör pausade han och sade sedan "du verkar inte förstå menyns berättelse". Och fortsätt sedan med att instruera oss hur vi ska beställa. Jag uppskattar alltid personalens rekommendationer när det gäller menyn. Men jag uppskattar inte att jag får känna att jag inte är smart nog för att bestämma vad jag vill äta. Jag är inte säker på vem som var mer otrolig, jag eller mina partner. Vi bekräftade att vi var bra med våra val, han försökte åter skola oss på menyn och påminde oss också om att vi var på begränsad tid vid bordet. Jag förstår att det är en upptagen restaurang och vi hade inga reservationer. Det var en väldigt frustrerande upplevelse och vi slutade med att ångra vårt beslut att försöka Crown Shy, snarare för att bara hoppa upp på övervåningen till Manhatta.
