This cafe overall is incredible. Great coffee solid food and pastries. Very clean bathrooms and street parking was easy to find what more could you ask for for a Manhattan cafe . It’s pretty expensive but then again the quality is excellent . Lots of vegetarian and a few vegan options available . My egg croissant sandwich was delicious and croissant was definitely fresh. Tomato bisque soup honestly maybe the best tomato soup I’ve ever had

Today I visited Dear Mama for the first time. It’s located in a building owned by Columbia University and is absolutely gorgeous inside, with its glass windows and lush plants. The girl at the counter who took my order was super friendly.

I ordered a large iced latte with oat milk, which came to $7.50. While the drink was good, it felt pricey, especially since their large (16 oz) is equivalent to a Starbucks grande. For food, I got a breakfast sandwich, but since I don’t eat bacon, I ordered it without the meat, making it just an egg and cheese croissant. At $13.50, the price felt hard to justify.

A quick tip: specify how you’d like your eggs prepared, or they’ll default to fried over easy/medium (with runny yolks). That part was on me for not specifying I prefer over-hard eggs. Also, they don’t toast the croissant, which is an interesting choice. The combination of the soft croissant and runny yolks made the sandwich messy to eat, which was slightly inconvenient since the bathroom is down the hall in the foyer of the building. The food didn’t take long, I would say 5-10 minutes for the sandwich.

When you walk in, the front half of the space is for counter orders and has seating for those who want to stay inside. There were lots of people working on laptops, and the bar seating has some outlets and hooks for bags. I didn’t look to see if there was wifi. The back half is designated for table service, although I think the menu is the same.

Overall, the space is beautiful, but I’d only go back if I was feeling particularly indulgent because of the high prices. If I do return, it’ll probably be at night to try their cocktails or for a meet-up with a friend who appreciates a nice ambiance.

They also feature an order-ahead option, which is convenient if you’re local or a student. Additionally, they sell their own merchandise, including coffee blends, which is a nice perk if you enjoy trying out new coffees.

TLDR: Overall it’s expensive but if you like to treat yourself or can appreciate the space’s amenities this can be a nice spot to come work, especially since our neighborhood isn’t as saturated with nice coffee shops like these.

Open and lively space with ample sitting area and natural light. The coffee wasn't that impressive. We tried mocha, caramel latte, and cappuccino, none of them were memorable. But the bacon egg and cheese is sooo good!!! Nice accessible space good for both work and hanging out with friends.

Love this place to do work or just hang out. There’s always live music. Drinks are a little pricey but worth it. Their matcha is DELICIOUS and a deep green so 100% worth the $7. I also like that if you sit you don’t have to drink your coffee in a to go mug. It can be a little cold in there.

I wasn’t familiar with the area and googled for a cafe that I could take my Teams meeting call. Boy did I stuck Gold! Food was great, ambience was a plus and the staff were all so kind and welcoming. I’ll definitely be back if I’m in the neighborhood!
