Cool place with alot of history. Wish the website would let you know when under construction. We didn't get to see the George Washington statue. Also the Bible he sworn in on wasn't at the location. Cool exhibit for women's history month.

Fantastic & Historical Museum & Building!
This is one of those hidden gem buildings that most people do not know about. If you are not a history buff you will not realize that this was the first Capitol in the USA; that here a part of the bill of rights was written, and that the halls where frequented by George Washington etc.
This is a must see but the good news is that most people do not know (so do not come) so you end up having the place for yourself (almost) even in summer!
We also liked collecting an NPS stamp here as this is part of the NPS portfolio of properties managed them in NY (like the statue of Liberty too).
Highly recommended !

A significant historical place that’s now a small museum narrating the beginning of modern nation of US. Not many visitors here. You can have your space and pace to learn history calmly.

I was there on July 4 and yes, the museum is open that day. As the USA's first Capitol, the birthplace of the Bill of Rights, and the site of the first Presidential Inauguration, it is a must-visit for any US history enthusiast. The exterior resembles the Parthenon and the interior resembles the interior of the Pantheon (which I also visited). There are also periodic historical reenactments. Free of charge and no tickets. Open Monday-Friday 10am-5pm. Just walk in!

Lots of history here, but building is run down. It has a lot of potential, but the gift shop is the only room that really has a lot to see and the exhibit there is mostly about other federally owned historic places in NY. It was free to get in. Very glad we didn't pay for admission as we would have been very disappointed. Ok if you just want to stand in a place where you know important things happened. Otherwise, a picture from the outside will suffice.
