Il Mattone can be found on Beach Street and is by far one of the best places to get pizza in the area.  This small take out joint has no table which means you cannot sit and enjoy your food, however it is definitely a shame as the food is that good.  The sausage and peppers roll is very tasty and quite filling as well.  The menu is quite vast and comprises of different types of pizza such as meatball, vegetarian, eggplant and Sicilian, all the slices of pizza I have tried have been very good.  The crust of the pizza is thin and the crust is crispy and has that perfect chew to it, the sauce is well seasoned and there is a lot of cheese on the pie.  The service is always cheerful and the people are very polite, they are real new Yorkers.

Absolutely excellent establishment. I come here at least once per week. Best pizza in the area, hands down. Friendly staff as well.

I've never had a bad slice from here, and I think I've tried them all. Meatball, Vegetarian, Eggplant (my favorite), Sicilian, Plain, Chicken Parm, really everything is excellent.

As good of pizza as you’re going to get in this here town. I ordered this on too good to go tonight. The slices Igot were fantastic. I mean just exactly what you want in New York pizza. And the dude behind the counter is cool and about as New Yorker as you’re going to get. I got slices with different meat on it. Good stuff!

Il Mattone is a hole-in-the-wall pizzeria on Beach Street. the tiny pizza shop has no seats—it’s basically a takeout and delivery joint. it’s a little messy inside but the interior is clean. there are small parks within walking distance if you want to eat al fresco and enjoy your ‘zza right away. il Mattone has a variety of pies and slices on display— their menu includes a variety of pasta and sandwiches, too.

while there is no lack of good pizza places in NYC—Il Mattone hits this standard easily and serves up a very good to great classic NYC slice. grabbed two slices for lunch, and the ‘zza did not disappoint. the slice is everything you want in the old school New Yorker pizza. the slice is thin crust style—fairly crispy and a little bit of chew in the crust. the sauce is seasoned well balanced between saltiness, sweetness, and Italian spices. a soft  melty blanket of cheese topping it all. all combining to make one delicious slice that will sate the hangriest of eaters. served super hot as i prefer. plain cheese slice, $3 + tip

My go to lunch spot! Great food, great service, very consistent as well I always know I’ll like whatever I choose. I have coworkers asking me all the time where I went for lunch because it smells so good, highly recommend the chicken parm roll it’s a personal favorite.
