The rooms at the Penny were snug (with the bed against the window) but contained everything needed for a great stay. Nice touches like a refrigerator with wine racks and freezer space were included. I especially appreciated the blackout shades, comfortable mattress, great towels and water filling station on the floor. The Penny is one of the few hotels we found in NYC that offered free (& good!) morning coffee, with pastries for purchase. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, and we took advantage of the outdoor seating areas. The parking garage was only a block away; we parked the car for the duration of our stay, and walked to the subway to commute to the city. Would stay there again!

We expected much more from The Penny, especially at the end of our honeymoon, but were left severely disappointed. Whilst the location, blackout blinds and rooftop bar were excellent, the rest of our stay was far from premium.

From the start, we struggled with our luggage and received minimal assistance. Our “upgraded” room was cramped, lacked basic amenities like cold water, and felt cheaply furnished. The air conditioning malfunctioned, leaving the room too warm, and the bed was squeaky and uncomfortable. To top it off, we were provided with a dirty towel.

Customer service was equally frustrating. After discovering our room was listed at a significantly lower rate than what we paid far in advance, our attempt to discuss the issue with the manager was met with rudeness and unprofessionalism. It felt like we were treated poorly for the remainder of our stay, despite politely broaching the subject, except for one friendly staff member who was very helpful when we asked for a coffee on our first morning. We never caught her name but she was a breath of fresh air!

Overall, The Penny failed to meet the standards of a 4-star hotel, leaving us with a sour end to an otherwise fantastic honeymoon.

We took a trip to Brooklyn for the weekend. The staff were very friendly but were not able to provide much in terms of advice for navigating the city. At other hotels in major cities I have stayed the front-desk staff have always been accommodating and abundant with helpful tips and tricks for first-time visitors....not so much here. In terms of cleanliness, other than some dusty spots (the HVAC unit/exhaust fan in the bathroom/headboard), the room was clean. Unfortunately, the room never really cooled down. Over the weekend the highs were in the mid-70s. We set the thermostat to 70º but the room was constantly at 72º and felt very warm, even with the window shade closed the entire time. I would hate to have been here in the heat of summer.

Overall, an OK experience. However, I don't see us returning when we make future visits to the city.

Great little hotel with wonderful staff! The room is small (not for NYC though probably), but cozy. The pour-over morning coffee is a wonderful touch, and size doesn't take away from any amenities. Our only issue was a shower that leaked water all over the bathroom floor, but the staff said they were waiting on a fix and provided *ample* towels in the meantime.

PERFECT BOUTIQUE HOTEL! The Penny Hotel loves its guests and pets and it shows.  Tucked away on a quiet Brooklyn street- All rooms are spacious with multiple options for those needing a little more room.  Fully stocked and sparkling clean.  The staff at every level goes above and beyond to service its guests. All requests are carried out promptly and with a smile.  The view from El Nico on the top floor is spectacular- close to great restaurants and shopping - we easily found street parking close by during our stay.
