This iconic restaurant and bar was originally opened in 1936. The bar interior has  a vibe of a moody lounge, dark and intimate. The restaurant is wrapped in a grand mural featuring sixty Jazz Age icons, from musicians Frank Sinatra and Duke Ellington to writers like Dorothy Parker and Langston Hughes. The food is spot on. I had the best Mac and cheeks ever! Great to share as an appetizer. Lunch had something for everyone cooked and presented to perfection. Don’t miss the lemon meringue pie, it was easily 8” high.

The ambiance is so cool, it’s very dim lit and gives chic vibes. I love all the little monkeys all around the bar. It’s beautiful and has so much character. Everyone was really nice. And the food and drinks were great!! I had some snacks but will come back for dinner.

Absolutely loved this restaurant. Dark, moody and eclectic.  Felt like I was going back in time when I walked through the door.     Potato pancakes were perfectly cooked, crunchy on the outside and tender on the inside. Tartare was great. French fries were the least favorite bite, they were fine.  Will definitely return to try more menu items.   I posted several pictures of the wall paintings they are amazing.

I decided to dine at Monkey Bar on a whim that was also spurred by the fact that I would get a dining credit via my Sapphire Reserve card and Infatuation. Upon entering at 12:15, just 30 minutes after they opened, the restaurant and bar area were completely packed. I should have expected as much given it was lunch time in midtown Manhattan. However, even with how busy everything was, the staff and hosts were very welcoming and cordial.

I was seated at my table about 5 minutes after checking in with the host. This gave me an opportunity to admire the decor and ambiance. It was really dark in the restaurant and so I think the lighting could be improved a little. This actually made it difficult to read the menu and eventually see the food I ordered.

My waiter came to the table to ask if I would like any water, and then he proceeded to give me an overview of the menu since it was my first time at Monkey Bar. He recommended the Monkey Bread, Wagyu Meatballs, and one of their other staple menu items the French Onion Soup. I was craving steak that day and so I went with the bread and their 42 day aged NY Strip. The meatballs I ordered for take out. I definitely don't want to miss out on wagyu meatballs.

Overall the food was fairly average for your typical Manhattan restaurant. The Truffle Monkey Bread was unique and tasty. As for the NY Strip, it wasn't terrible and it wasn't great. I ordered Medium Rare but it was definitely more on the rare side internally. Externally the crust was on point but overall it lacked the flavor I was expecting from a dry aged steak. It could also have used a bit more salt. All things considered, the steak wasn't worth the price.

Looking back, I would consider giving Monkey Bar another try. The service and ambiance were great as were some of the dishes I tried. Next time though I will go for the Wagyu Burger and not their steak.

Lovely spot. They have a nice bar and dining lounge. We went there for my birthday brunch and had a nice time. The food was delicious but our service could have been better. The staff was nice but our server was perhaps having an off day. He could have made it a better experience.

We will be back and if we end up with the same gentleman I’ll politely request to be seated somewhere else.
