Bechtler Museum of Modern Art is a small museum in what seems to be the heart of Charlotte. Located right next to the Mint Museum, this one might be overlooked or compared but I love small museums. It's a decent entry price to go in and if you are into Modern Art, this museum could be a great one to visit. I love architecture of museums so I definitely appreciated this one. There were a few floors and they weren't too big but had great exhibitions when I visited. The staff was super friendly and even gave more recommendations of places & other museums to visit while in the area.

The museum if featuring the work of Icelandic artist Hildur Asgeirsdottir Jonsson, born 1963 she works mainly with silk threads and dyes. The museum is a 36,500-square-foot building with space dedicated to the exhibition of mid-20th-century modern art. I, found out from one of the staff, that it is part of the new Levine Center for the Arts in Uptown. The museum building itself is an impressive architectural piece designed by architect Mario Botta. A decently-sized art museum that took about an hour to get through. Although the artwork was interesting to look at, none of them stood out to me.

Small museum with very limited exhibits but some special shows can be interesting. Entrance is $10 which is a bit pricy for not having a lot of artworks to see. The statue on the street at the front is the best piece they have. There is 2 hour street parking with reasonable rates - about $1.50 per hour, mobile payments only.

A really good value for an Art Museum. Nice collection of sculptures, prints, drawings, and painting. Not too big- easy to see everything in an hour or so. Well worth the price of admission.

Quite an interesting place. It not only has modern art pieces by various artists but also an exhibit about the influence of modern art on the architecture of the building, particularly the clay shingles. The prices are low and you can easily spend a few hours. This place is definitely worth checking out.

Highly recommend going to their jazz series on Friday evenings. I believe it's held 1st Friday of the month. Cash bar, clean restrooms, friendly staff, great music. They also have a new living room setting which I opted to sit in instead of the regular seating. It was very nice and truly made the show even more awesome.

We really enjoyed this museum! It's a digestible collection that can be seen in just one or two hours - and that includes reading all of the descriptions. The collection's foundation is a private family collection that was donated to the city of Charlotte to create this museum in 2010. It's cool to learn more about the Bechtlers, who lived in Switzerland, and their personal relationships with many of the artists. The museum houses works by Picasso, Miró, and other well-known names along with many that were new to us. There's a small-scale model of a moving fountain sculpture in the lobby, and you can see the full-size version in action inside an office building just a few blocks away. Admission to the Bechtler is reasonable at $9 for adults (with discounts available for students and such). I'm looking forward to returning when a new exhibit is on display!

I went with a small group and we had a lovely time. The Alberto Giacometti & Flora Mayo exhibit was wonderful with different with sketches, sculptures, paintings, timelines and film and a lot of history shared. The staff encountered was extremely helpful and friendly. A delightful afternoon.

although it's not really my cup of tea nor the greatest show in town it is totally artsy and modern inside which is sorta better kinda. odd that though many of the pieces here are postwar european they resonate with the heres and nows of the post modern, post industrial, post random thoughtlessness on the interweb world... not sure if it is a such a thing but the collection tells tales from a particular point of view: much like encycolpaedic dictionaries which were guided by schools of thought rather than personal preference of the individual contributor. currently they've got an delightful feature-length film by Yasuma Morimura showing upstairs on a repeating loop the show examines the stories of a half dozen heavies in the art world ranging from da Vinci to Warhol in a novel if not viral manner. in my inflated opinion it's totally diggy and worth two hours of your time - the first covers your expenses, the other is for watching the show.
