I love the theatre. In fact, my ambition at one time in my life was to pursue a career in the theatre. Alas, I find myself serving as a Chaplain - which is quite theatrical at times. All this to say, that my recent experience at the DD (Charlotte, NC) was quite disappointing. The concept is fun, a whodunnit about a murderer who sits among you and you have to figure out who he/she is. Again, I like the concept, but the production was horrible. The actors were not grounded, the props were amateurish and the script was confusing. This is dinner theatre, so let's talk about the dinner. It was not bad. I had the chicken and veggies. My favorite part was dessert, the cheesecake was delicious. In conclusion, dear Dinner Detective., if you're going charge $75.00 bucks a pop. You've got to bring it. This production is not worth $75.00.

The show was underwhelming. The actors fumbled through the performance, talked over each other, and often seemed confused about what was next. It was such an unpleasant experience that we left before the end. The food was tasteless and one of our meals came 25 minutes after everyone else finished eating.

Me and 7 of my friends went for my birthday. ALL 8 of us had a GREAT time! The cast was friendly, fun and hilarious! I like that the cast was mixed in with the crowd. I've always wanted to do one of these. It was a great way to spend my birthday! Thanks for a great experience!

While my husband and I enjoyed the show (January 26th), I was rather disappointed that they didn't come through with adding my husband as a suspect. I paid the extra money for the 'suspect package' and followed the instructions regarding bringing a picture. We were moved from our original table (to accommodate a large group), so I don't know if that impacted his inclusion. I sent an email the following day (1/27), but never heard back. Disappointing...

The overall premise for the show is good but it was very hard to follow. We were asked to begin interviewing our fellow diners well before we even knew what the crime was, which made it next to impossible to ask questions. It felt as if we walked in at the middle of the show. The room layout is a long rectangle with the activity occurring in the middle. No microphones or headsets were used so if you were at an end table - as we were, you couldn't hear it see what was happening. Lastly, the clues were so disjointed and multiple additional crimes took place, so if was difficult to delineate what clue went with which crime. Too many attempts at comedy that was totally unrelated. It didn't feel like an investigation, it felt more like a series of comedic skits that frankly weren't that funny. I've been to these events before and this one just didn't measure up.

Buyer beware! Do not, under any circumstances, purchase tickets for this show via living social or any other group buying power website. This vendor is unscrupulous to say the least. They make it virtually impossible to redeem your vouchers. I have been trying to find an available show for over a month now. In bad business 101, they limit the number of voucher paid seats available per show. Currently there are more than 10 shows listed on the website, however they are all listed as sold out for voucher holders. If you are crafty like myself, you can check the regular priced, non voucher website.....and you'll be appalled at what you find. Currently, the full price website features over 60 open seats for each show...the same shows that are 'sold out' for voucher holders! Now I'm not new to the groupon/living social game, but this is ridiculous. Attempts to contact the vendor have resulted in a "so sad, too bad" answer. Living social will only redeem the vouchers for living social credit so consider yourself warned. As an avid yelp reviewer I actually checked yelp for reviews prior to buying tickets. Hopefully this review helps future customers as I believe they are still offering this so called deal..I wish I'd known. I'm now stuck with 30+ dollar credit, I guess I'll go see if I can buy a mani/pedi, carpet cleaning or house cleaning voucher. Suck it The Dinner Detective. Shame on you!

Very campy and staged. The cast was easy to figure out. Over all enjoyed most of it. Food was ok, nothing special.

The Dinner Detective is new to Charlotte, but you'd never know it from the quality of the whole experience. It's very different from the murder mysteries I had been to before, in that the whole audience was involved, some of whom were part of the cast. So you didn't know if the people at your table were there for the show, or part of the script! The room at the airport Sheraton was the perfect size for the 8 or 9 tables of 10 people each, and the acoustics were great. The actors were very professional, and they were great at reacting to the audience. Add to all that a very good sit-down dinner, and you've got a night to remember. I highly recommend it!

I've gone to several Murder Mystery dinners before with the Murder Mystery Company. While it was a bit campy to have actors and ref herring guests dressed in character it made it easier for the guests to know who they should be looking at to consider suspects for questioning. There really was no scene at the start of the show that gave you any inkling as to what the foundation of the storyline was. It's pretty bad when someone who's been to several shows in the past can't figure out what the heck is going on. The actors were decent but the script they were given was terrible. The food tasted good but portions were small. Hotel staff service and venue were great but the price we paid for tickets was inflated based on the quality of the show itself. Frankly in hindsight I should have taken my friend out for a birthday celebration dinner at one of the many amazing restaurants in Uptown and spent $60 each on GREAT food and drinks and skipped the BAD show. Save your money unless you like paying for disappointment.
