I'm a longtime Avis loyalist and business traveler. Simply put, locations with no after-hours drop options simply don't work for me. Hard stop. I've rented in many states at large and small locations, and I've literally never had this issue. As this was my first rental in the state, I wasn't aware that this "no drop box" deal is commonplace in North Carolina, and I wish I'd been told at the counter at pickup. But, that's on me. I've now been educated that "North Carolina is different. All NC Avis locations outside of airports have no drop boxes or after-hours returns." Meanwhile, my husband casually throws out that Fuquay-Varina Enterprise (boo!) location has a drop box, and he's used it twice. -- We're clearly a house divided on preferred rental companies. So my reply to that is-- Be an Avis trailblazer in this state! What a simple accommodation to consider, and a huge missed opportunity for added convenience for your customers. (Or do I join the Enterprise ranks when I'm in NC now? I'll have to chew on that a while.) Lord forbid someone's delayed or life happens. I showed up at 1:15PM on a Sunday, and after parking on the 5th level in the garage across the street and entering the hotel lobby, I had no way to return my vehicle, other than to go back to the garage across the street and take the vehicle to the airport and try the return process again. How's that for convenience, with a looming engagement to get to. Seriously? Charge me for an extra day, but please (for the love of all that is holy) let me return the keys after all the hoops I had to jump through while backpacking to and fro in downtown Raleigh in hopes of returning a car. It cannot be this complicated. Going forward, and as much as I can help it-- it's airport only for me in these parts. Lesson learned, le sigh. If I could give them zero stars I would. AVIS, CHANGE YOUR SIGNAGE! Picking up the car was easy. Returning it was a nightmare. I attempted to enter the Avis lot and the signs are Misleading. The sign says DO NOT ENTER severe tire damage if you do. So I exited and went around. Directions led me to exit the airport. I did this 3x. So I entered the do not enter entry and was told by two different young ladies two different directions to the drop off. When I got to her the third time I said listen. I'm gonna miss my flight if you give me wrong directions again. Finally she tells me where to go. I get on the shuttle bus and everyone has the same complaint. Avis you've got to do better!

Never had worse. They called to tell me they didn't have a car and I should go elsewhere. Like the Seinfeld bit about what a reservation means. Just make the trip to the airport where they gave proper staffing and car availability.

Rented car in different city, returned to Sheraton Raleigh on Salisbury St. The attendant was condescending, rude and unhelpful about how to return it. I pointed out to him to please be kind to me. That worked. However, he told me that I had pet hair in the car and therefore it would have to be detailed and charged to me 'at the airport'. I dont have pets and certainly did not let anyone else put there pet in my rental car. He asked me to return the car to the parking garage and put the ticket anywhere. The elevator was out on the 6th floor, so I would have had to walk down 6 long flights. When I returned, he asked me for the parking ticket, which he told me to 'put anywhere'. He clearly doesn't not like the public or being in the service industry and was difficult, obtuse and resentful. The whole experience left me with an unpleasant feeling.

Why go all the way to the airport when there's a car rental desk right here in downtown Raleigh? Located in the lobby of the Sheraton Hotel, I booked online and arrived on time to pick up my car. A nice gentleman took my identification, printed out a rental agreement and handed over the set of keys with directions to the car across the street. Easy and simple and I was on my way in less than 5 minutes. How about that! [Review 12310 overall, 2094 of 2019.]

Don't rent a car from Avis or Budget in Raleigh. The lines are ridiculously long and some how they run out of cars. Employees are doing their best but are totally under staffed.

Wow. If only zero stars was an option. I made my reservation on the Avis website, prepaid for my car so that my reservation would be "guaranteed", and received a confirmation from Avis. Unfortunately, when I tried to pick up my car, I was told that it was unavailable due to low inventory. Not only that, the desk agents were unable to process a refund and directed me to call Avis. After navigating the long, automated menu, the Avis agent asked me if I had read the contract and said that I had not canceled my reservation in time to receive a refund. He finally agreed to process a refund, but there was no ability to speak to a manager or to get any other compensation from Avis, despite the complete failure to provide a "guaranteed", confirmed reservation. This ended up costing me substantially more money in Uber fees to get to the appointments I had for the day. I would strongly recommend avoiding this Avis location.

Horrible service. Out car was not washed and was gross. It smelled like smoke and there was milk all over the floor, There was a Bud Light can.
