It's a free museum so there's no harm in checking it out, but I wasn't personally a fan. It's a very small museum, and none of it interested me.

The museum was interesting especially the exhibit with the typewriter and the old IBM computer and how they were related to the history of Raleigh. The museum had some artifacts from the Roe v. Wade overturn protests too. The museum was small and didn't take too much time to go through which makes the museum a good option to spend time when you're time-strapped.

Great Displays of historic artifacts/architecture of how Raliegh came to be. Learned a lot about the city and its culture.

I had my first event here tonight and it was perfect! I knew the moment I talked to Lynda that this was the place I wanted to be. The venue is perfect for around 50 people. We had. A professional photographer, Photo Booth, catering, and a DJ! We had an absolute blast in the perfect setting. Lynda was so great to work with and they provided the tables and a great scavenger hunt. The space is very reasonable and worth every dollar. Everyone loves the event!

Small, free, educational museum in downtown Raleigh with interactive exhibits, gift shop, and fun events! If you are looking to learn about Raleigh or somewhere to bring kids or visiting friends/relatives, this is the place. Particularly if you don't have a lot of time to spare. I do love the other museums Raleigh has to offer, but they can be time consuming. The City of Raleigh Museum only takes about an hour. The exhibit guide is available in print or online via a QR code. Some of the exhibits are interactive and some are geared towards children. Even having lived in Raleigh for a while, I learned a lot. The museum is free with a $5 suggested donation for adults. They also host events. I attended a yoga event here. $15 for yoga, mimosa, and invitation to view the exhibits afterwards. Due to the location, the museum does not have a parking lot. There are nearby parking garages/lots and street parking. I parked on the street close by. An employee greeted me at the door. The museum is long and narrow. The spacious first room has a beautiful map, information, and a bathroom. The next is the gift shop beside the check-out counter. Then the third area has the exhibits. The exhibit area is spacious, yet filled with information. An emergency exit is located in the back. Overall, I had a positive experience here and recommend this museum to others!

The City of Raleigh Museum has become a great museum. I was looking through my previous pictures and just seeing how it has transformed over the years. Some exhibits are temporary but it feels all connected now. Admission is free but they do ask for a $5 donation. With COVID the interactive exhibits are closed. There is a guide book you can get at the front desk. There is plenty to read without the interactive aspects. The museum is doing a great job with COVID procedures. There is hand sanitizer when you enter. They do take your name and temperature and ask the routine questions about feeling ill and if you have traveled in the past two weeks. They even have masks if you forgot yours as they are required. Currently, the exhibits are the City of Raleigh history over 200 years; Dwane Powell's political cartoons; Women of Change (about the 19th Amendment); Dorothea Dix history of the hospital and it becoming a park; and another about Raleigh musicians. I was lucky enough to meet Dwane Powell on an earlier visit to the museum in 2018 so glad they have kept his work on display after his passing. The tributes added my other comics was a nice touch. I highly recommend visiting this gem of a museum.

An interesting look at the City of Raleigh through the ages, this museum has a nice collection of artifacts and memorabilia that goes back to the founding times of the city and then its growth through the Revolutionary times and past the Civil War to the modern downtown hub that it has become. Definitely worthwhile for kids, but even grownups might learn something. It is easy to go through the museum and see most everything in less than an hour. Great little museum in the heart of downtown. Only open for a few hours on the Sunday I visited, but you only need a half hour or so, and parking was free nearby. Super staff, cool open space. Displays about various aspects of Raleigh history including industry, civil rights, the ships named after it, etc. Nice display about a local cartoonist. Cool little gift shop. And- free. I donated, of course, and it was well worth a few bucks.

I like museums. I wasn't sure I'd like this one, though, because museums are ancient history and Raleigh isn't that old (relatively speaking). Once again, I learned the truth in never saying never. So let me get the embarrassing part over with first. The main sign on the building reads "COR Museum" What the heck is a "COR"? Then, in the same instant, the captain obvious voice in my head said, "Oh geez -- it's spelled out in the subheading immediately below: 'City of Raleigh'". Sigh. And I don't even have a good excuse. [Sigh, again and hangs head in embarrassment] With that out of the way, I walked in, first going through the gift shop, to get an idea of what was inside this museum. Surprised by both the history of the building itself and Raleigh, I made my way to the first exhibit: "Raleigh's Journey Towards Civil Rights". The doors taken from segregated restrooms were the first thing I saw. It grabbed my attention and didn't let go even after I had moved on to the cartography exhibit. Two hundred years of Raleigh history in maps. It was interesting to see the way the city has changed, and yet stayed the same over the years. From there, the history of Latta University, the photographs from Raleigh's history, some viewable as an interactive display, the World War 2 exhibit in the words and voices of local survivors, the history of the Briggs hardware, everything here was both intriguing, interesting, and worth a visit. It's an easy exploratory trip, and a fun one, probably an hour's worth of your time, and free, although donations are welcome.
