Great spot for a good ole classic burger! Local dive bar vibes. Relatively quick and friendly service. The owner or manager came by and told us about how he smokes the meat and makes the food which was a really nice touch. My husband got the smoked chicken which was decent but the burger was the real winner here.

Mac's Speed Shop at Five Points in Raleigh is not to be missed--what an incredible sports bar. The restaurant and bar opens up in the front and has out door seating on a deck in the back. There is street parking in front and a private gravel lot in the back. This place is Sooo Cool The good was unbelievable. We had Mac's chili nachos with chili--wow--delicious. The also have a very healthy serving of hush puppies for a buck and a half when dining him. Definitely have time for these hush puppies. The menu is expansive with many great choices including different types of hickory barbecue, chicken and waffles, catfish, burgers, and wings. We both had Bacon Jam Bison Burgers. The right balance of salt, sweet, tang and beef. Great selection of beers and cocktails also Brenda S was our server and she definitely earn a 22% tip. Great service with a very freindly and nice approach. This was my first time and definitely not my last. Did, I tell you that they have $2 burgers on Mondays

Went into Mac's on Friday night and were seated immediately. There were a few people at the bar but mostly empty. They had a big menu but I had to go with the traditional pulled pork and two sides, large size. There were lots of sides to choose from. I chose baked beans and sweet potato fries. Food came out quickly. Pork was good, sweet potato fries were waffle fries cooked perfectly. The beans had some fatty chunks in them. There were four sauces on the table but the pork had enough flavor that I didn't use any of them. Service was solid and it looks like they have drink specials throughout the week as well as a $2 burger night on Mondays. I really hope this place survives -- nothing else ever does in this location.

Not sure why this place has such a low rating. The food is great and a good price. The staff is amazing. And it's clean not to mention convenient to downtown. I got the brisket, didn't have any smokey flavor but was tender. The Mac and cheese is awesome! I'll be back to try the burgers!

Large menu with choices of plates, sandwiches and more. I got a sandwich and pulled pork plate, the bbq took a while to come out of the kitchen and then was luke warm by the time we got it, decent selection of draft beer.

A round of applause for the newest barbeque restaurant for Raleigh, Mac's Speed Shop! This Five Points location (the old Lone Rider Space, the Pointe at Glenwood) has been refreshed into a beer, bikes, and barbeque restaurant from a Charlotte chain. Inside it's mostly brick with red leather chairs and a bit of glowing neon behind the bar. Two garage roll-up doors front the space and gives you a great view of the 5 Points intersection. Mac's Speed Shop offers up a variety of smoked meats, sandwiches and Southern sides. They are off to a solid start, similar to what you might get at the Midwood Smokehouse down the street. Overall a nice spot if you're catching a movie at the Rialto or hanging out in the neighborhood.

I am sad to say that we were disappointed in our BBQ experience at Mac's! We almost didn't come because of the reviews saying the BBQ was dry, and we should've listened. We got the sampler and every bit of meat was the driest I've ever tasted! I timed my boyfriend and it took him over two minutes to chew and swallow one of the burnt ends. That is definitely a red flag if you want juicy tender BBQ. The ambiance and service was absolutely stellar (nice waitress and lots of TVs and beers to choose from) but I think this would be a better bar spot than a restaurant. The Mac and cheese wasn't bad, the Cole slaw was good, and the hush puppies were GREAT but unfortunately I cannot recommend the BBQ. Mac's- please work on your BBQ you have a lovely restaurant, if you get that right you're set!

If you haven't been to Mac's Speed shop you really should give it a try. They have some really solid bbq and if you like sports or live tv you will be in heaven. I tried their sampler plate that had sausage, pulled pork, ribs and got mac and cheese on the side. All absolutely delicious! My fave were the pork ribs and bbq. The Mac and Cheese is def a serious contender! My husband got their burger on $2 burger night where you get to customize your own burger with add ons. I also tried thier down south rolls that had pull pork, mac and cheese and greens served with a tangy sauce on the side and whew I could have made a meal out of that alone! I got their PainKiller cocktail and he got their Margarita, also great! We finished up with the apple pie eggrolls and icecream and sooooo glad we did. They were so perfect and crispy and delicious! On top of the great food, the servie was great! Our server did a great job of making sure we had everything we needed but didn't bug us and let us eat.

Because of Mac's Speed Shop, I was able to order a whole smorgasbord of southern food after getting off the plane in Raleigh at midnight. That's freaking awesome. I'm talking about fried okra, creamed corn, barbecue, beans, collard greens, sweat tea... the whole lot. It arrived quickly. I needed vinegar on the bbq and collards, otherwise there wasn't much flavor. But that's how I like it; I can flavor it how I want to. Like others have said, the bbq is dry but vinegar fixes that... I had it on a sandwich so it was less noticeable with my added vinegar. For a late night eat, it's hard to beat this for a whole food kinda meal.

Travelled into Raleigh late night and I was so happy to see that this spot was open. There weren't very many late night options and this one greeted me with the southern flavor I've been missing. The fried okra hit the spot. I got the BBQ chicken sandwhich and added my own vinegar to it when I got home and it was a perfect midnight snack.
