If you're expecting perfection stay somewhere else. However if you're looking for a place that feels like home, vintage and traditional this is definitely the right spot. I stayed in a king room with a balcony. The room was large and felt like I was staying at a friend's. The comfortable poster bed and balcony overlooking the court yard was exactly what it means to be home away from home. The wooden floors creaked and the hot water took a few minutes, but those things just added to the charm. The staff was friendly and engaging and was perfect walking distance to great food. Far enough away from bourbon street. The train went off all night,  but it was enchanting to feel like we were on some adventure. I love this hotel and will definitely stay again. Only downside was the heater was on all night and it was hot,  but I slept with the balcony door open and that evened it out.

Stayed here during Thanksgiving week and it was perfect!! Starting with the location. The hotel is centrally located and in walking distance of all of my excursions. The ladies at the front desk were the best! Shout out especially to Cynthia. Every food recommendation was spot on. I wish that besides the morning coffee and tea that was offered that they had a light breakfast. Even though the pool was not opened for swimming the garden area was so very peaceful. I will definitely stay there again and have recommend the hotel to friends already. Am trying to figure out a long weekend in 2025 for a quick visit.

An Ode to Diamond and Beverly:

This hotel is located in a great location.  The building seems old and there is that "old building" kind of musty smell in the hallways--for some this can add to the charm.  Especially in New Orleans as it makes the place feel like it has been through a lot of rich experiences in this city with a long history.  The first room we were put in did not have any windows which probably under normal circumstances would be fine.  However, the hotel has central air which you cannot control yourself.  This can be a problem when they switch to heat when it is cold out--at least for rooms where you cannot open a window.  As a consequence, our room became very stuffy and hot.  We had two little dogs with us and we became concerned for not just our comfort but also their safety.  We voiced our concerns to Diamond up front and she was able to place us in another room the next day that had a window we could open.  This significantly improved our experience for the rest of our stay.

Then, on our last day, we were having a small crisis befall us right before we had to get to the airport.  Beverly was at the front desk that day and wow, she was incredible the way she helped us solve some problems and connected us to a driver she clearly had a good relationship with.  He was able to gracefully give us the time and space we needed to wrap up a few details before whisking us off to the airport and helping make sure we did not miss our flight. THANK YOU!!!!!!!  I find that the right employees can make ALL THE DIFFERENCE when it comes to making a travel experience a good one.

The location was great. We were within walking distance to just about everything we wanted to checkout while on town. Our room was clean. I really liked the walk in closet. The bathroom was updated with a nice walk in shower; the water pressure was pretty weak but I assume that’s pretty typical in a building that’s nearly 200 years old. We had a private balcony overlooking the courtyard and heated saltwater pool. It was nice sleeping with the doors open on rainy nights getting a nice warm breeze. But the pool….It was the main reason we booked our stay at bienville. The water was brown and murky. Sign the doors to the courtyard saying it was “closed for maintenance” but in the 3-4 days we were there we never saw any maintenance being done. We thought maybe they were getting ready to close it for the season, but it’s a heated pool, and it was still in the mid 70’s-80’s and humid during our stay so that doesn’t make sense either. It was a pretty big bummer and honestly if we had known, we would have chosen a different hotel. Other than that, the ladies at the front desk were very nice. We were able to leave our luggage with them on our last day so we could explore the city some more before our flight back home. They even offered to arrange a taxi pickup to the airport.

Great location and daily room cleaning is lovely. However, the front desk doesn’t understand how important empathy is. Fire alarm went off twice, once at 2am and again again at 2:20am after they said it would not happen a 2nd time. Sometimes simply saying you “don’t know the answer” is better than empty promises. They never once said they're sorry. Lastly, windows are sealed shut. A lot of jumpers in New Orleans and I feel this is a fire hazard but according to the local fire station it’s not unique to this hotel. I suggest calling hotels in the future and asking if your windows open or not if you like fresh air like I do. If you want your room cool at night and warm during your morning shower it’s not possible as the room thermostat doesn’t work. The room seems to be the same temperature as the common areas.
