This was my first time attending the Gamut Theatre Group to enjoy the debut of the Hyena Skits Stretch Comedy, which was primarily written and directed by Harrisburg's cultural director, Dujuan Dixon. I was pleasantly surprised to enjoy ten different comedy skits from 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., allowing performers to highlight their collective passion and talent. If you missed the May 9th performance, tickets are available at Eventbrite for the June 7th and June 28th performances. Cocktails are available for purchase and sold in a closed container so you can return to your seat. Free parking is available after 5:00 pm, including the parking spaces assigned to state workers at the Capitol.

We came here for a Yelp event I didn't even know it was here but I'm happy I do now during our event the Gamut theatre hosted an improve skit and it was hilarious haven't laughed that hard in a long time. Thank you to Clark, Dave, Erin, Will, Aidan, lyeneal, and Patrick for an awesome show!

I have always enjoyed Shakespeare in the park! I guess I always knew it was hosted by Gamut theater but never understood what they do! When I was younger my brother took acting classes with them but I still didn't have an understanding of how progressively they are changing the theatre to push the envelope. Last night as part of a yelp event we attended happy hour at the Gamut theatre. They do this great thing where they provide light refreshments happy hour prices at the bar and on and off improv. The best part is that if you attend happy hour then you can stay for the show after for free. I was really surprised when the team (TMI) incorporated it social media by taking polls and asking questions online- to help create content for the show. I thought it was innovative! They offer a wide range of different classes and shows available to the community and I encourage you to check it out!

Are you looking for a unique date night idea or girl's night out? Well YOU FOUND IT!!!! Get your butt down to 4th street to partake in their awesome happy hour (5pm to 6:30pm) where you will find great priced drinks along with some interactive TMI Improv to keep you giggling. Don't worry, they won't make you get up on stage, they just ask the crowd to shout out some random ideas and they turn it into comedy. It's quite funny. The energy of this improv group is upbeat and contagious. Seating is comfy. Check out their Facebook/Instagram page for event/happy hour info. We attended a happy hour and show on a recent Friday evening. The show was free if you attended happy hour (which was also free admittance). I will absolutely return and I urge anyone reading this to check it out!!

Unique and fun experience at the Friday Happy Hour and TMI Improv evening performance! Enjoyed the mix of generations in the performance troupe and in the audience. Very welcoming atmosphere and is a great place for a date night! The improv members are very talented and witty and performed many humorous skits. My favorites were the shorter happy hour skits and the performance skits where they had to guess a quote. You can't beat an evening filled with laughter.

Why don't we take in more local theater? Absolutely no excuses! Gamut's production of "Bunny,Bunny" is spectacular, even if you don't remember Gilda Radner. Tomorrow is last night, pay what you can showing. Catch it while you can.

If you are reading this note, you have one performance left, today's Sunday matinee, to catch what may be the single best artistic endeavor performed in Harrisburg in this and possibly any year. The Gamut's production of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead is a level of theater that the Yale Rep or O'Niell Festival would be pleased to claim as their own. It can take a theater goer years to see something this good. Why? First, the director and the company capture the perfect staging, blocking and characterization of the Player's admonition to "Look on every exit as being an entrance somewhere else." Playwright Tom Stoppard has created a character centric universe in which a performance of Hamlet orbits around two minor characters whether they are off stage or on. When R&G "enter" a scene, it is the action of the other actors that sweeps through their confused little quadrant, often surprising them and interrupting R&G's efforts to understand their own circumstances. Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are not played by actors within a production of Hamlet waiting for their cues, they are only the characters, with no memory prior to the first scene, save a profound curiosity to explain their circumstance and existence within both the play and their assumed broader lives. Another great reason to attend this Sunday is to see an unforgettable performance by Alex Jane Bailey who plays Rosencrantz. The last I saw Miss Bailey was in the Gamut's Barefoot in Athens as one of Socrates young sons, a very small role from which shone a very large talent (See, "There are no small roles ..."). As the dreamy, inquisitive and slapstick Rosencrantz, Bailey is truly something to behold (I know, rhetoric). She has so many tools, an almost rag doll physicality, eyes that occupy half the stage, and a voice that fascinates the listener through exquisite laments and absurd modulations. Miss Bailey's talents create a presence on stage that rewards the audience with such great fortune, returning possibly 2 to the 92nd power in artistic value. Finally, Alex Bailey's fine turn in no way overshadows any of her fellows in this production, from her desperately philosophical partner played by Eric Dexter Brown, to the Gamut's Artistic Director's take on the ribald acting company leader with all the tools to survive in a medieval players commercially and existentially challenging world. The Player's own company (as does the Gamut's) shows a depth of experience and ability that further explains the groups existence, even in the very challenging and far-off world of a 21st century provincial capital.

The Gamut Theater group is absolutely incredible. My boyfriend and I came to watch Shakespeare's, A Mid Summer Night's Dream, and the cast just brought the script to life. They bring in modern day mannerisms and attitude in to the performance to make it a bit more relatable while using Shakespeare's script. We originally attended for an extra credit opportunity in our Literature class but we will certainly be coming back-and not for extra credit!
