This place is absurdly good. I've been going to Drexel for years and only vaguely heard about the restaurant on top of an academic building (THE Academic Building, if you well). The prix-fixe menu changes around a bit between seasons and throughout the week, but it's a serious deal. For $15 (cash only), you can get an appetizer, entree, dessert, and a beverage. The service is a bit slow since the cooks are students, but when it finally does come out...wow. I came on a day where they ran out of mostly all the appetizers minus the pea soup (meh), but my halibut entree and lemon panna cotta dessert pretty much -made- the meal. The fish was perfectly cooked, deboned, everything. It was on top of spinach (amazing) and fried sweet potatoes (even better!). I ate the whole thing, which is rare for me. The panna cotta was perfectly sweet, leaning on the semisweet side, but the candied apricot satisfies the sweetest of sweet tooths. Definitely check their official site to see when they're open next, because it's -pretty- amazing.

Great place great meal great deal!!! Food was amazing, had the choice between a lobster and duck entree, and the students doing the service are incredibly nice. You need to make reservations pretty early but it is definitely worth it, never thought I could have such a good meal for such a low price (12$), including drinks, bread and coffee/tea.

Really, really cool place in Philadelphia that very few people are aware of. Drexel's Academic Bistro serves prix fixe lunches and dinners in a beautiful dining room with a wonderful view of the city! All meals are cooked by culinary students and are really quite wonderful. Not only is it a great meal for a great price, it's a special experience. At the end of the meal, you get to feel out a little card that rates the students on their service, preparation and presentation of food. It's like Philly's own version of Top Chef and you get to be the critic. Except you're nicer than Toby Young - hopefully! In order to get notified of meals, I think you need to get on the mailing list. So when you visit the website, go to the "contact us" page.

The food is always excellent and different from what I would get at a usual restaurant, which is nice because the limited menu makes me try new things. The quality of the food is fantastic. I think the service is great, especially for being all students. So if you're going to go and you think your food is taking too long, try to remember that it's students serving you and making your food, not James Beard!!

I was here for a pop-up dinner with JonCarl Lachmann (Noord) and had a fantastic time. So when it came time to plan a reunion for the nursing unit I worked on, I thought I'd see what they could offer. I could not have been more pleased. They offered a 3 hour cocktail reception with 3 stationary tables of various crudités, cheese and charcuterie, in addition to servers walking around with various appetizers. I opted to have a red and white wine selection, a beer (they had Yards IPA :o), plus soda. They ended the evening with dessert selections. The food was great and the students were so friendly and eager to please, as well. We had access to the bar and the dining room. Paul, the manager/instructor, had a laptop/projector (at my request) and ipod music playing in the background. All of this for $35/person. I was able to charge the total bill at the end of the evening- no need for up front deposits. All along, he was flexible, accommodating and an all around good guy. Seriously, give these kids a chance next time you need to host an event in the Univ. City area.
