I didn't have a good experience when I was in the studio (the one in Exton). A lot of classes were being cancel, instructors were leaving constantly, showcases extremely expensive (about $7200). I could not learn what I wanted. I was stuck with them for a year. Management needs a lot of improvement. Do not give your money to them. I will recommend studios like Fred Astaire Studio West Chester and Fred Astaire Wayne.

We had a similar experience to the review below by K S. and would never recommend this place, in fact, would recommend you go anywhere else for dance lessons. When we had a call with the manager to try to rectify the situation, she blamed us and recognized no fault of the studio. We're a week away from our wedding and have no fully choreographed dance due to their incompetency. Save your money or go elsewhere, but DO NOT give them your business.

I left angry after most lessons. So many problems it's hard to know where to start. 1. Wedding couples were unimportant compared to 'regulars'. We were in the same room as multiple other lessons, and the music that they played had totally different tempos than the dance we were learning (e.g. we were learning the Foxtrot, and they were playing tango, waltz, etc.) Our instructor tried to follow us with a quiet iPhone to try helplessly to let us hear the beat we were dancing to. 2. We were pressured (with loads of solicitation phone calls) into getting a package that included group social dance lessons. However, we were never informed that if too few couples came they would be canceled (or even that we needed to sign up ahead of time). 3. Our instructor, while very nice and earnest, was totally unprepared to teach and choreograph a first dance. She did not remember, after 6 lessons, that we had limited time and was surprised on our last lesson that our wedding was only 2 weeks away (despite having told her on multiple occasions). 4. When trying to complain to the owner, it was difficult to get him on the phone, and he made little attempt to rectify. We got so frustrated that we went on Craigs List and found someone else (at a much lower cost) who got us totally prepared for our first dance in a fraction of the time, and showed far more care and professionalism.

I called in last night inquiring about instruction, practice space, and what dancesport programs would be offered. I was given rude answers by whomever answered the phone and nothing really concise. I asked if there was open practice space available for students: no. I asked who coached there: different local and visiting people. I asked about any competition programs or any other information: nothing. Social dances? nope. Seriously, can I even become a student or is there a lottery? Can I get a single real answer to my questions? Chuck Danza, if you're reading this, and I hope you do, please, know that I was VERY disappointed with these answers and unless someone gives me real answers I can't refer anyone to your dance studio or I can't even go to your dance studio. I sent in a webform asking for more info on the free lesson they offer: no response. I wasn't able to get any direct responses - just generic answers that I could have made up on the spot for myself.

I started dancing at the Academy a little over a year ago. At first, it was somewhat intimidating as many of the students have been taking lessons at the studio for 20-some years and regularly win at Pro/Am competitions. But after I got up the courage to go to my first Thursday night party, I realized that it was actually a very welcoming, family-like environment--lots of laughter. The more experienced students have always been willing to help new students, whether it is showing them a dance step, or cheering them on in their first performance. The level of instruction is top notch. The growth I have seen in my dancing abilities over the past year is far beyond what I could have imagined. My private lessons with my instructor allow me to really focus on areas where I need to improve and learn new things. The group lessons are a great opportunity to learn from a different instructor and gain a new perspective on steps I have already learned, as well as great practice dancing with other students. On top of all of this, the studio regularly brings in some of the top ballroom dancing coaches, giving us the opportunity to gain knowledge from an additional expert opinion. Ballroom dancing is by no means an inexpensive hobby, so if you are going to spend the money on it, you might as well do so with the best teachers in the industry.

My (new) husband and I started coming to this studio in February in advance of our June wedding for our wedding dance. As a former dancer, I wanted to "wow" my guests with more complex choreo at our wedding and communicated that with the manager during our first meeting. We were initially paired with one of the new instructors, and I pretty quickly recognized that she may not have the skillset/technique we wanted to get us to where we wanted to be by our wedding. I voiced that to the manager and she immediately switched our instructor. When we explained what kind of dance we wanted, the manager (who has more dance experience) immediately started choreographing for us which I really really appreciated. Our instructor was patient with us in teaching us latin styles from scratch (which could not have been easy). He was an overall amazing person who provided us such a great latin foundation. About six weeks before our wedding, our instructor left to pursue another career path. We were paired up with one of their more advanced instructors, Roberto. Roberto continued to build on the foundation that our previous instructor built and focused on styling, sass, and technique with us. It is clear that he is a top-notch, award winning latin/ballroom dancer and has improved our dancing so much. We loved our experience at this studio and with Roberto so much that we are continuing our lessons even after our wedding. We highly recommend this studio!!!

The upside: we loved our instructor, Clyde. He was really knowledgeable and fun to work with and we learned a lot. The group sessions were also run very well, easy going and good instructors for the most part. The downside: Our instructor was unexpectedly transferred to the Exton location before our last session. The packages are super expensive and the instructors are clearly forced to up sell you on the next "package" when you're not even half way through your first. The sales pitches are a little pushy. The packages also don't feel like realistic options for your casual dancer and seem to be geared towards professionals and folks who want to take part in competitions which we clearly were not. Between the sales pitches and losing our instructor, I'm sad to say that we never even finished our lessons!

UPDATE: Chelsea of the Exton, PA branch contacted me soon after my initial review to offer me dance instruction with one of their Professional Dance Instructors. My new instructor, Roberto, is a trained dancer with competition experience and a formal education in dance. He is Excellent and everything that I was hoping for in a dance instructor. I have waited so long to update the review to see how the new dance instruction and new (to me) management (Chelsea) worked out. It is an excellent experience. Arturo teaches group lessons in Exton (and likely their Philly branch). He has an effective, thoughtful approach to making the students be the best they can be and improve their movement, awareness, and control. His classes are also a sneakily great workout. The dancing staff is truly amazing. They are rock solid, great dancers, nice caring people, and fantastic teachers, even to us "normal people" who have trouble turning around once in a pretty way. They really do hire the best. I hope that they fix their management issue in Philly. I am still upset about the poor experience (for a LOT of $$$$$) in their Philly location. It is a management abuse for the manager to claim a student as "his own" despite my understanding that Federico, a professionally trained dance instructor with extensive competitive and teaching experience, would be my dance instructor (while the manager does not have the extensive formal training.) I had to experience frustrating lessons while watching a professionally trained dancer sit at the front desk, not teaching. I would have rather had instruction from the formally trained instructor who was available during my time slot. And furthermore, even if I am assigned a fantastic instructor it should only take one mention to any member of the staff that I am not comfortable with my teacher to have a frank discussion looking into my needs and to be reassigned to someone else who might be better able to help. I did have that conversation in Philly, but with no followup of any kind.

A agree with the first reviewer that this establishment is unwelcoming to new students. I came in for an introductory lesson. Unlike at other studios where I have taken lessons, the intro lesson wasn't a lesson at all. Instead it was a brief critique of my existing dance skills followed by a sales pitch. The instructor wasn't willing to help me with my goals, and was downright nasty about it!

I've been coming to the center city location for about two weeks now. I walked in one night and let them know I wanted to learn salsa. They scheduled a free lesson for the following week with Ariana, my instructor. On that free lesson, Ariana clearly and precisely explained how the academy worked telling me that I would not only learn salsa but a lot of other dances as well (rumba, mambo, foxtrot, waltz, etc). She explained the reason why they teach all dances and how it specifically helps with my goal in learning salsa. I agreed and two weeks later I can say that I am extremely satisfied on the work Ariana has done. In two weeks (four private classes and access to group classes and parties) I can say I have improved my dance skills significantly. Not only that but I am learning in an environment full of positivity, fun and great instructors. What you pay, you receive back in many ways: excellent and experienced instructors, access to group classes, access to the academy to practice and access to weekly parties. I highly recommend giving this academy the opportunity to teach you how to dance and to have a blast while doing so!
