As a Philadelphian who has toured Eastern State for the daytime tours and experienced their Halloween event about 10 years ago......I had SO much fun at this recent exhibit. I'm already a scaredy cat and Act 1 of this tour had me literally jumping at every turn. Even through all the spookiness I even caught myself getting distracted by how well done the stage design was. Whoever designed each portion of the haunted house portion deserves a standing ovation. Also love that there's breaks between each "terror" moment. The food trucks there were incredibly delicious - not too sure if the same food trucks are there every night or not. The drinks were STRONG and soooo good. We got the apple cider & bourbon drink My boyfriend got the VIP experience which included entry to the Al Capone Speakeasy at the end of the tour and it was a really well done idea. Also really enjoyed their new exhibit that went more into depth about prison systems in the past vs now. Incredibly informative

Every year it is getting better and better. I went in with the thought that if it is not better, I am not going to return. This year they really did well. I enjoyed going from one haunted attraction to another. In the past few years I felt like they were going in the direction of a hangout and drinking and less haunted attractions. But, this year they evened it out. It was a great. There was two sections to hang out and have a drink. A great way to spend your time while waiting for lines or a way to calm your nerves. I enjoyed having one haunted house after another. The special effects and the decor for the houses really were kicked up a notch this year, 2025. Ordering tickets online is very easy, and I always buy the parking pass for the zoo because it is convenient. The pricing is and can be pricy, but it is a fundraiser. So I do not really complain about it. The bus drivers were great and engaging both to there and back. I enjoyed the stories and the music. Overall this has always been my favorite haunted attraction in Philly. It really never fails. I highly recommend taking a tour outside of the Halloween time frame. I have done one of them before and loved it.

Loved the whole experience! I feel like there really was something for everybody here. Very entertaining and such fun vibes. Characters, costumes and makeup were really on point. We got the VIP tickets and even though I thought they were expensive, it did end up being worth it to skip some lines. You can wear a glow necklace to signify you don't mind being touched, or simply walk through and don't get touched but still plenty of jump scares. I loved that there was a beer garden, food and fire pits to hang out. They had live acts with spooky vibes and also a cool Dance stage area where you could join in the fun. I liked that they did have an audio tour if you wanted some history and also. Tour of the hospital area so there is plenty to keep you busy for the whole night. Are you going to be scared out of your mind? No, but you will have fun and it's nice to do something different.

I miss the 3D haunted attraction. Let's get that out of the way first. In previous years, you were given a 3D pair of glasses to walk through one of the attractions where things popped out at you. That was cool. In its place was Dark Tides. It was good, but not as good as the 3D attraction from previous years. Still, the rest of the attractions were pretty good and mainstays from previous years. The Machine Shop is always great. The Big Top clown scare is always excellent. I got sent down a crawlspace maze on one attraction. It was uneventful. I got transformed into a puppet in another. Whoa, that was really creepy! The puppetmaster was awesome. Because of these new experiences, I can't knock this down to 4 stars; it's still great. I did get scared a lot. Certain actors mastered the "creepy touch," which is like draping their hand lightly onto yours. This year they took a novel approach to the entire attraction by separating the haunted houses into "Acts." Act 1 was four haunted attractions, one after another and clearly marked as such. Each had a totally different vibe. Act 2 was a rest in an outside lounge type of area and another where you could watch a group of performers do synchronized dancing. Act 3 had two more attractions (I think)... the path that goes through the bus and the Machine Shop, which is arguably the best of all. After that is a snack area, a couple of gift shops, and a spot to pick up your photos (for an additional fee). Some will tell you that this haunted attraction is not worth it, but you really do get a lot for your money, more so than many other attractions in the area.

I've now been to Halloween nights for two different years. My friends and I try to hit as many Halloween haunted houses and excursions each year as we can. This is one of the best in the North East. There's a shuttle for parking all set up at the zoo so it was easy to park and get to. Each haunted house was super high quality with amazing actors and it seems better and better every year. There's one area each year that requires 3D glasses and its so unlike any other halloween experience. They also have local teen dance groups that put on shows near some of the drink areas. You can even pick your scare level by wearing a glow stick if you want a spookier experience. The food and drinks were also very good but somewhat pricy. We just had fun in between houses sitting in the beer garden and chatting with friends. The place is also very accessible and has something for everyone. So much fun, so much attention to detail and so much history.

If you want to experience the prison, take a tour. The haunted houses are extremely mid and half of the attraction is a money grab with overpriced merchandise and food/drinks. Tickets are wayyyyy too expensive. Used to be a lot scarier before all the beer garden stuff.

Worth a trip and the experience overall! We had a great time! It was not as scary as the first time I came here over 7 years ago, but I must say the props and actors are awesome! They really put-on a great show and none of the actors break character which is completed the experience! The Eastern State Penitentiary is an historic landmark and this Halloween attraction offers a great way to visit and learn of history; including the good, bad, Al Capone imprisonment and corruption. There are about 5 attractions here and I must admit at least half of them will get your heart rate and adrenaline going. The others are just good for getting your steps in on your Apple Watch or wearable device. We opted to be touch and taken away from our group. I think this made it even more enjoyable during some parts of the attraction. For example, we got separated and had to finish the last attraction piecing together the body parts of prop in an operating room by a deranged doctor. It was really cool and upped the attraction. There is a beer garden and food camp fire grounds that offers a bit of a break and refuel while there. They also have gift shop after you're done. Highlights for we definitely was the s'mores station, the visitation of Al Capone's cell and then insane asylum....for those that really wanted to a bit of gore. Oh! The speakeasy was awesome too. The girl singing did an amazing job. In all, a cool attraction and worth at least a visit once. The attractions are more tame these days but the actors and props are on point. We really enjoyed our night at Terror Behind the Wall. *Elite Insider Tip: There is a night walking tour of a private part of the prions hospital. It was totally cool and great learning experience about this historic landmark. Definitely, was worth the extra charge for admission.

I don't believe in Halloween. I don't believe in scary stuff or people. I'm very very nonchalant, but this place brought out the human side of me. I am scared.

They've changed the set up this year and it really , really sucks. There is an intense security check right at the entrance creating an insane line (even with VIP tickets). Then you basically get funneled from there into one giant line through four haunted houses. It just felt like being on a conveyor belt through the whole thing. These "acts" that you have to do in order and the way you're funneled through just ruins the whole experience. We went last year (2024) and it was so awesome. You basically entered right away without much of a line with VIP tickets and then you had total freedom to wander around and visit the haunted houses, beer garden, and other events as you wished and you could return and do the haunted houses multiple times if you wanted. The new set up just funnels you through one after the other and you have no say or choice in how you experience the attraction. I was so excited to do this really cool thing every year since moving to Philly, but my husband and I decided we wouldn't come back. They really degraded the whole experience by completely controlling the flow of movement through the space. With that many people, it's just basically one huge long line through the whole experience. It really sucked this year.

Oh how the mighty have fallen. Pandemic changed this for the worst. To be honest, I prefer "Terror Behind The Walls" over "Halloween Nights," but my real gripes come from the attraction itself. Honestly, it's just not scary and the new themes they put in for the haunt make no sense. The sideshow attractions (that isn't the main fright attraction itself) and the flashlight tour are the saving graces of Halloween Nights.
