hey yelp! today, i'm going to be reviewing one of drexel university's dining halls, urban eatery. the other dining hall, hans, is also review- worthy. however, i have spent the most time here, and have the most passion towards it. tl;dr- mid af, but the memories are lit first, the atmosphere is nice. the front area seating has giant windows that makes the place super airy and bright. when i'm alone and doing homework, i really like sitting in the small booths (near the walkway/ entrance). when i'm with my friends, i like to sit in the group tables (near the soda dispensers/ sandwich bars / fruits). the other seating options in the back are okay. we call the seating area near the bathrooms "the dungeon." these areas don't have big, bright windows, but they are a great secondary option for when we want to have a more isolated and intimate meal. the food isn't spectacular, but it also isn't the worst. it's hit or miss. as a precautionary measure for our taste buds, we typically end up serving ourselves an excess amount of food because we know that half of it will end up tasting bad. that half normally ends up as waste :( the worst experiences i've personally had include uncooked chicken and horrendously bland mashed potatoes (no matter how much salt/ seasoning i added, it was unsavable). my daily go-to meal is a sandwich from the sandwich bar. i normally get white bread, regular mayo, pepper jack cheese, roast beef, lettuce, and tomatoes. sometimes the toasted sandwich gets stuck to the parchment paper, which is super annoying, but it's still really good. the ignite station is yummy. you can personalize your order, and watch someone cook it! i like to get the quesadillas and pasta from there. sometimes, they serve chicken nuggets. and it's honestly the best thing ever. it tastes exactly like mcdonald's. their vegan section is good. i'm not a vegan, so i'm not the best person to judge, but i like their little ravioli things. their fries are also really really good. their ice creams are also really really good. the people who work there sometimes scare me (LMAO), but for the most part, they are awesome. the people at the front, where you swipe your card, are kind and they always say hello. the chefs at the sandwich bar or ignite bar are pretty meticulous and efficient when preparing the food. the people who also clean up/ set up are also very nice and always on top of it. good service all around. i want to thank urban eatery for all the memories. i can recall countless times when my friends and i would stay here and hang out for 4+ hours. we've talked about everything ranging from our classes to our crushes here. we've spilled both literal and metaphorical tea here. we've shared some of our funniest memories here. i would laugh so hard here, to the point where my cheeks hurt, and i literally couldn't breathe. i'm sure many other students can agree with me, or say something similar about this place--that this was where many of their friendships grew. freshman year, although somewhat academically bland and unrigorous, was difficult for many. i, personally, had a hard time moving across the country, and adjusting to the change. so to have this place, where we could all take a break, forget about our troubles for a bit and talk with our friends, was really nice. although i constantly complained about the place, i will always look back on it fondly. ..that's not to say i'm unhappy to be off the meal plan though. i'm done with this place, and i'm never returning! thank god.

I don't know what happened but urban stepped up their game recently, no complaints. And there's lots of desserts.

The new food court in the impressive Summit at Drexel is a great idea put into practice. This architecturally appealing food venue with six different restaurants is open from 7 am in the morning until 1 am in the wee hours of the following morning. From coffee and teas to health food, a deli, a pizza parlor, cheesesteak counter, Mediterranean and international foods along with several other offerings, there is certainly something to appeal to you. There are varied eating areas attached to most of the restaurants or In the common dining room there are plenty of tables with TVs carrying the latest sporting events. Drexel students can eat here as part of their meal plan but others will find this food court handy because of its hours of opening and convenience to much of University City.

As a visiting student this is by far the worst service that I have ever received anywhere. Mind you, i was just trying to order a regular smoothie. The African American lady behind the counter gave me attitude for just asking plain questions about the content of the smoothies. And the guy who was making the smoothies skipped the guy behind me just because he was looking down. Guiding the guy behind him to the front. He said that the weather was too hot outside and he didn't want to wait for anyone. I have never been to prison, but I'm assuming this is how they treat the inmates in their food lines. You should hire energetic young students instead of these apathetic burnt out people. Smoothie on its own was delicious and highly recommended.

Food wise, I love this place. I work nearby and we don't have a ton of options, so it's nice to have a place with a healthy variety (pizza, salad bar, "international" food, kosher, grill). HOWEVER- every time I order food here I basically have to commit at least 30 min of my life to waiting around for them to serve it. The people who work here are at worst unmotivated and at best utterly confused. It's heating up a veggie burger, it's not rocket science. Last time I was there even though it was pretty empty they still had trouble figuring out what I had ordered (it prints out a receipt...) It's pretty overpriced too. Lunch will run you like $12ish all told with fries+ drink.

this place is the definition of . the food is not goo. Sometimes I just want to go and get decent food but it's hard to find. The people there are very nice though, so that is good. One of my favorites is the peanut butter toast or a smoothie. Urban is good because you can use meal swipes (hence one of the only reasons I go). If you ever eat at urban don't have high expectations. Sorry for this harsh review but I am just being honest.

Disgusting, overpriced garbage. Never, not once was it good. Please don't order the quesadillas. It's apart of Drexel's expensive meal plan. Freshmen are forced to eat there. Would never willingly eat their nasty food. Gets old real quick and lines are very long

Being a college student at Drexel University, you are required to have a meal plan (of course they require it) during your freshman year. This meal plan costs $2,000+. I am extremely disappointed in the fact that I am paying a ridiculous amount of money to attend this school and pay for the meal plan (against my will), just to have the workers and food be extremely subpar. The food is awful; I have eaten at almost 6 of the options they have in the cafeteria, and I have had a problem at each of them. My food has been cold, soggy, or not fresh on every single occasion; the options they offer are very limited. If I have a question or even if I am just simply ordering my meal, the workers will be laughing and talking behind the counter (which is fine) but then they will give you a rude attitude as soon as you walk up to the counter. My first time in this cafeteria, I picked up a water from an open cooler, and I got screamed at because somehow I was supposed to know that the workers have to get it for you. Running out of food is a problem, too. At lunch time, I wanted a salad and soup, and they ran out of soup... at 12 in the afternoon. At dinner time, I wanted pasta and chicken, and they were out of chicken... and the pasta was soggy- I had to throw it away. Meal swipes are wasted because you either have to throw your food away or you cannot get everything you want. Long story short, I become livid every time I walk into this chaotic shit hole and try to come as little as possible. It's sad that I would rather eat at Drexel's second cafeteria, which actually was closed in the past for health code violations. It's that bad.

Food is ok, staff are generally nice. They used to be open until 1 am now they close at 8pm. And they got rid of the meat lasagna, which I loved. TheiThey're pricey though if you're not on a Drexel meal plan. I bought a fruit cup from Green St. Without checking price and it turned out to be $8!! Also, I couldn't even finish it because half the fruit was overripe. Good for Drexel students. If you don't have a meal plan there are better places to spend your money.
