My new favorite breakfast As a displaced east coaster, it's hard to find a place with a diner vibe in California. But we do get some adventurous menus. Sonora a trade off, yes? This morning I ended up at the Los Gatos Cafe on Santa Cruz avenue, a small diner-like experience with counter service and an extensive breakfast menu. Chimichurri flank steak showed up in a lot of dishes. I hadn't seen that before. So I asked for a recommendation and was guided to the chimichurri steak benedict with gorgonzola. I went with grits over potatoes since you don't get grits much out here. This was amazing. The perfectly poached eggs and well seasoned steak makes the dish a delight. The hollandaise was perfect The heaping dollop of butter made the grits a heavenly experience. The friendly counter staff kept my coffee full and my space clean. Small and friendly, with an extensive breakfast menu. Outdoor seating with people watching is available, but I enjoyed the counter today. Recommended to fill the diner-sized hole in your breakfast heart.

Party of 6, seated right away on Veterans Day around 11:30 AM. The host was super polite and pleasant -- great first impression. They had a few specials listed on a whiteboard way up on the wall, but our server didn't mention them when handing out menus, which would've been nice. We ordered a mix of things -- Benedict, omelette, quesadillas, and burgers -- plus coffee cake for everyone to share. The food came out hot and fresh, and the portions were pretty generous. The coffee cake was very soft, buttery, and delicious. Service was friendly, though it slowed down a bit once the place got busy. Overall, cozy spot with solid breakfast and brunch options. We'd definitely come back and maybe try one of those specials next time.

I have always been a fan of LGC but our last visit didn't turn out as good as the past. We ordered the Swedish pancake and it came out VERY oily. Each of the three pieces of pancakes were rolled with lots if butter that each bite seemed like chewing into oil. I would ask for the butter to be on the side next time so I can regulate how much I will have of it. They ran out of the Cinnamon roll which is a bummer cause that's what they are famous for.

I gotta say I didn't find this spot to be all that impressive. While the service was great, the restaurant looked clean, and food was adequate, nothing really stood out for me. Maybe I just didn't order the right thing. I will say their carrot walnut bread was very good but the rest didn't blow my mind. Their menu is mostly focused around omelets and Benedict's with some specialty pancake/waffle options as well. Prices are a little high but I guess that's the norm these days.

When the breakfast is delicious but their coffee is weak.... we rate 4 stars. Service: great and friendly. Make you feel like you're a regular. Ambiance: busy busy busy. Sat outside on this beautiful fall day. Good enough spot for me to come back if I'm ever in the neighborhood.

Came on a Sunday around 11:30am which had some pretty bad congestion around the area, but fortunately the line here wasn't too bad. Nice and quick service. Great flavors, options, and generous portions for the price. Highly recommend to all and I will definitely be back to try more of their menu! Plenty of parking in the area is convenient as well. Some street parking in front, but otherwise a few lots are around in the area. Crab Soufflé Omelette - definitely can taste crab but wish there was a bit more pieces of crab. Plenty of avocados in the omelette which I love. It's super fluffy too (hence the soufflé)! Love the light and plentiful of hollandaise sauce on top of the omelette. One of my favorite omelettes at a brunch restaurant to-date. Ham and Cheese Soufflé Omelette - Lots of ham in this one and the flavor + texture is awesome! Entree comes with a bakery item, so we got the raspberry coffee cake and upgraded to the cinnamon roll (+$5). Raspberry coffee cake was pretty standard and good. But the cinnamon roll...! It was massive and a lot more than our party expected both in flavor and in size. Best part was that it's not overly sweet and tastes amazing! Would recommend one to upgrade for the table since this definitely fed our party of 4 along with a toddler. I think the cinnamon roll can even be ab entree for smaller eaters (claimed by one of our friends). Will be back for sure!

Came here for brunch on a Sunday. It was crowded, but my party of 2 only had to wait about 3 minutes to be seated. Crab Soufflé Omelette (5/5): This comes with a choice of grits or potatoes. The omelette includes crab, avocado, mushrooms, and tomatoes but I asked for no tomatoes. What makes this omelette unique is that it's extremely fluffy and bouncy. The overall omelette was great, but I wish the toppings were more spread out as it felt like most of it was on one side of the omelette. The crab was nice, but an increased portion would've been great. The potatoes took me by surprise though. I thought it was going to be plain salt and pepper, but it has a curry flavor that was amazing. Cinnamon Roll (4/5): This is worth the $5 upgrade. It was huge! Some parts could be dry but I think it was definitely Worth, especially if you want to share. Overall, I would love to try this place again.

Went on Sat morning. It's been a few months since our last visit. We used to come here all the time, before we moved. Service: 5/5, as always. Food: 3/5. My omelette was way greasier than any previous visit -- I ordered the same thing I almost always did, a ground beef omelette sub chorizo. This time it was served in a puddle of grease. Never came out like that before. Potatoes were as crispy and delicious as ever -- still tops for breakfast potatoes, in my book. I could only eat about 1/3 of the greasy omelette before I started feeling sick, so I got a box and set napkins in the bottom to help it drain. It worked, thoroughly enjoyed it later! Also: we went at around 7:15, looking forward to a cinnamon roll. They don't have cinnamon rolls ready that early. :((

A homey, tasty breakfast with pleasant hospitality (a massive cinnamon roll) and quick service! What more could you ask for to start your day??? Los Gatos Cafe is the Diner really has the breakfast menu down to a science! The food was of course pretty satisfying and easily comfort food for the morning. From waffles to scrambles to omelettes we had a filling meal to start the day. It elevated our spirits and the coffee kept pouring as well. The service was a highlight of the meal, attentive, local-like, hospitable, and polite. This is an experienced staff and crew. They were not phased by the large groups and folded out the necessary tables in a very efficient way and got everyone to fit. Having gone to both Cafe Establishments I would say that both are equal in their food quality. Their menu isn't anything complicated and thus makes it easy to be satisfied by a well made meal. If you are looking for that one spot to bring your family and friends too without a thought or if you just want to sound like a cool-local... Los Gatos Cafe is your spot :) Not bad at all Los Gatos Cafe!

TLDR: It's a beautiful brunch place with great food, amazing service and an oldish diner atmosphere. 5 on 5 from us. Long Review: We've been coming here for almost 3 years now and we usually do it once every couple of months or so. Food: We've tried all couple of items before we settled on our now usual order. Food quality and portions are really good. The omelets and Benedicts are delectable and so light and airy. It shows that they take pride in their work. The Herb Avocado and Chicken sandwich is just perfect, I personally prefer crispy over grilled but I make an exception here. Topping brunch off with a raspberry coffee cake and trust me you should try it. It pairs perfectly with a latte or a black coffee. Service: It's usually a busy place, We've always had to wait for a bit to get a table but they have benches outside so you can wait. Staff is nice and friendly and ready to help! Atmosphere: Feels like an old diner and has a charm to it. All in all, We've been here way too many times and will keep coming here.
