This establishment has been on my list ever since I discovered the existence of the coconut cake. The food was great. I had the steak, smashed potato salad which were both phenomenal. The lobster three ways was also delicious. The coconut cake was heavenly. I definitely understand why it popular. The staff really puts a lot of effort into your experience.

I have to be honest, I had no idea you can spend $400 on a single steak and about $1000 per person for dinner. But then, you can eat here well for about $150 - $200 a person as well. The shrimp was fantastic but I would absolutely recommend the Burrata as an appetizer. Excellent. Steak (NY Strip) was about what you would expect but nothing outlandish - just the good meat quality you'd expect. Side dish recommendation? Mashed potato salad - easily the best side here. Make sure you leave room for the coconut cake. A must. Amazing. A great place for a business dinner or a celebratory date night.

Enjoyed our meal, very pricy, but we were expecting that. Paul took great care of us! The cocktails were very tasty. The four of us split the Opulent Spud (very good, it's an experience). We also had the She Crab Soup (ok), scallops (excellent), Butternut & Brussel Sprouts (very good) & Prime Beef Carpaccio (good!) and I can't remember what the rest of our table had. It was a good meal, I'd probably try a different place the next time I'm in town.

A Five-Star Anniversary Celebration at Charleston’s Historic Peninsula Grill

My wife and I are seasoned steakhouse enthusiasts, having enjoyed many of the finest spots in Charlotte—places like Ruth’s Chris, Steak 48, Fleming’s, Morton’s, Chima, and Bentley’s. But our honeymoon brought us to Downtown Charleston for the first time, and Peninsula Grill gave us an experience we’ll never forget.

Established in 1997 and located in the courtyard of the storied Planters Inn, Peninsula Grill has built a reputation as a gem of Charleston’s renowned dining scene. Adored by critics and visitors alike, it’s no surprise that their signature “Ultimate Coconut Cake” has become a must-try dessert, cementing Peninsula Grill’s place among the city’s culinary greats.

Since it’s December 2024, most diners were inside, but we wanted to enjoy the festive atmosphere on the outdoor terrace—and we’re so glad we did. Twinkling string lights and seasonal garlands gave everything a warm, holiday feel, while well-placed heaters (and the gentle sound of courtyard fountains) created a cozy, romantic setting. It was perfect for capturing a few honeymoon photos afterward!

We were also blown away by the service. Our waiter Cory greeted us immediately with water and wine, detailed the specials, and saw to it that our food arrived quickly—within 30 minutes, which felt remarkably efficient for a restaurant of this caliber.

We began our meal with an appetizer topped with fresh mozzarella, accompanied by a delightful amuse-bouche of cheese, warm house bread, and salted butter. For the main course, I opted for an exquisitely cooked steak with tender asparagus. From the phenomenal quality of the meat (possibly sourced from a top-tier farm) to the peppercorn and béarnaise sauces, every bite was sublime. The béarnaise in particular stood out, though I do wish I’d sampled the house sauce as well!

The Legendary Coconut Cake😇

To wrap up our unforgettable evening, we indulged in the famed Coconut Cake ($17 a slice). This sweet masterpiece is every bit as legendary as people say—rich, moist, and gloriously satisfying. We took our slice to-go and enjoyed it later on our hotel balcony, soaking in the Charleston skyline. It was simply divine and absolutely worth the price.

If you’re looking for a top-tier dining experience in Charleston—especially for a special occasion like a honeymoon—Peninsula Grill is a standout choice. Expect to spend around $100 per person if you include wine and dessert, with entrées typically around $50. In our opinion, this is a small price to pay for world-class service, impeccable food, and an ambiance that will make any romantic night feel truly magical.

We can’t recommend Peninsula Grill enough; it’s the perfect combination of culinary excellence, Southern charm, and holiday enchantment—a memory we’ll cherish forever.

Definitely a date night vibe. The menu was prixe fix for valentines day which isn't best case scenario because I think it knocks their quality down a bit just keeping up with the rush.

The truffle risotto was delicious, the burratta was good but earthy and pretty heavily seasoned which took away from the taste of the cheese. The carpaccio was one of the better dishes we had over the course of the night. The filet was kind of cold surprisingly, but the sauce that was on it was pretty good.

Overall price was the priciest we had while in charleston, which i don't think it really should be. But again it wasn't a normal dinner service so keep that in mind. The coconut cake which is supposed to be a big deal for them was kind of dry and underwhelming.

Would probably try it again when it wasn't a fixed menu.

Jag stannade till för att kolla in en plats för vår kommande bröllopsdag och satte mig i baren, där Corey med K tog hand om mig. Han kände till menyn utan och innan, skapade en unik och imponerande cocktail och satte en så Välkomnande, trevlig ton för alla i baren. Naturligtvis återvänder min man och jag för vår bröllopsdag.

Vi gick för vår 46-års middag. Mycket trevlig restaurang. Vi åt biff båda två, min fru åt filet och jag åt Kansas City strip. Både perfekt tillagad och kryddad. Hon gillade inte confitmoset, men jag åt den varma potatissalladen som var utmärkt. 
Servicen var förstklassig. Vår server Dana var mycket informativ och uppmärksam. 
Desserterna var utmärkta. Min fru njöt av kokoskakan som var enorm. Jag åt äppelpaj. Det var helt enkelt den mest enastående dessert jag någonsin har ätit. Tunt skivade äpplen utmärkt kryddning och kanelgelato. Wow.

Jag började med räkcocktail med pepparrot och citron och cocktailsås, ädelsten och endiv Caesarsallad med vitlöksbrödsmulor, vit ansjovis, krispig kapris och mimolette och en skål She - Crab soppa med jumboklumpkrabba, sherry spritz och körvel. Till min förrätt valde jag en 16 - uns ribeyebiff med blå ostskorpa, Peninsula Grills signaturbiffsås, confit vitlöksmos och rostad svamp. Till dessert är inget besök på Peninsula Grill komplett utan att smaka på husets berömda 12 - lagers Ultimate Coconut Cake med kokosanglais och jordgubbar, randig med färskostglasyr. Älskar det.

Tog min fru här för hennes födelsedag och det var ren perfektion. Vi hade varsin utmärkt biff, en av de bästa jag har haft på ett tag. Och sen när vi trodde att det inte kunde bli bättre så åt vi kokostårtan! ! Oh wow! Vilken fantastisk middag!

Vi åt inte här. Jag gick bara förbi sent en kväll. De var minuter från stängning. 
Köpte en bit kokoskaka att ta med. Personalen var vänlig och hjälpsam! Kakan var den bästa vi någonsin ätit (kokosnöt) !

Åkte på min födelsedagsmiddag. Vi hade ätit här tidigare för en årsdag och det var underbart, så var glada att återvända. Detta besök var en besvikelse av flera skäl: server frågade om vi firade ett speciellt tillfälle (när min man hade noterat detta var en födelsedagsfest när du gör bokningar) , server nämnde inte att vi hade fått begåvade drycker för middagen av släktingar att fira - han väntade efter middagen för att erbjuda det (och sedan berättade ett släktnamn vi aldrig hade hört talas om och vi ställde flera frågor för att reda ut förvirringen). Servern nämnde inte eller erbjuda gratis födelsedagsgodis förrän efter att vi hade tittat på dessertmenyn och tackade nej. När serveringen tog fram de begåvade champagnedrinkarna serverade han oss ett glas som hade läppstiftsfläckar på sig som måste återlämnas till köket. Kändes som subpar service för en sådan högt värderad restaurang med ett bra rykte för fina middagar med en underbar atmosfär. Inte alls som vårt tidigare besök där vi gjorde att känna sig speciell genom den servicenivå vi fick. Maten var mycket bra som förväntat men kundservicen var lite subpar - det är detaljerna som spelar roll när du äter i en exklusiv restaurang. Hoppas det bara var en lyckträff.

Enastående. För några år sedan åt jag dubbel fläskkotlett. Jag är old school och sa att jag ville ha det genomkokt. Jag var orolig att det skulle bli skoläder. Det var den bästa fläskkotletten jag någonsin ätit! Ikväll hade jag lammracket. Bästa jag någonsin haft! Jag får alltid 3-vägs hummer förrätt. Utmärkt. Min fru åt krabbsoppa, stekta ostron och fois Gras. Ostronen var fantastiska. Som en sida hade jag potatismoset. Jag kunde inte sluta äta dem. Och såklart 13 lager kokoskaka för att avsluta det. Det är värt det.

Stämningen på innergården var mycket trevligt. Jag fick den dubbelskurna fläskkotletten och kan bekräfta att den var dubbelskuren. Det var den största fläskkotlett jag någonsin sett. Tillagad till perfektion och extremt saftig. Sås på sidan var välsmakande men fläskkotletten kryddades till perfektion så behövde inte ens såsen. Vi avslutade med den berömda kokoskakan som levde upp till faktureringen.

Vårt team var värd för en Summit talarmiddag på Peninsula Grill och upplevelsen var utmärkt från början till slut. Chris McClamroch samordnade varje detalj mycket bra, vilket ger vår grupp en personlig erfarenhet och en som var precis rätt kombination av informativ och icke - påträngande. Jag skulle rekommendera hans tjänster till någon. 

Menyn levererade på Peninsula Grills rykte — varje rätt var vackert tillagad, balanserad och full av klassisk Lowcountry-smak. Kökets timing var perfekt - på, vilket spelade roll med en större fest. Lika anmärkningsvärda var vinparningarna: ja - utvalda urval som kompletterade, snarare än dominerade, varje rätt och föranledde mer än några positiva kommentarer från våra talare. 

Peninsula Grill slog märket för service, matkvalitet och övergripande professionalism. Om du planerar en affärsmiddag eller festevenemang i Charleston är det svårt att föreställa sig ett mer tillförlitligt val.

Vacker restaurang, oklanderlig service och mat i världsklass. Kammusslorna var mycket goda och min fru hade svärdfisken som också var mycket god. Kokoskakan är precis lika god som den hypas upp för att vara. Exceptionell service av hovmästaren d, Dean som serverade oss champagne medan vi väntade och vår server, Susie var förtjusande och kunnig.

Vi åker hit varje gång vi är i Charleston. Underbar mat. Bra service. Jag åt öringen. Det var jättegott. Min dam hade de korta revbenen och älskade dem. Vi har alltid elva lager kokoskaka till efterrätt. Enastående.

Middag för fyra var $ 862 inklusive dricks. Varje objekt var grovt överprissatt. Min grouper, en special, (så priset var inte listat) var ca 5 uns grouper på en säng av underkokta korn (inga sidor) , för vilken vi debiterades $ 65 . Efterrätten var verkligen intetsägande, som en vaniljpudding. Restaurangen, som en gång var underbar, elegant och tyst, är nu packad med bord och extremt bullrig. Jag föreslår att du sparar dina pengar.
