Bought some postcards here and some really nice prints to take home from our Charleston vacation. It was reasonably priced! The art is beautiful and it shows a lot of the Gullah culture through the work. I am excited to be sending these postcards!

Got some nice pieces here for my art collection. So much to choose from, can be overwhelming. Staff was extra friendly and so helpful. They also ship some of the artwork if you prefer. They tell what it will cost then and there.

This place was filled with a lot of good paintings. I went looking for some that reminded me of home. He had a pretty good selection. You can get some to frame yourself for very reasonable prices. Customer service was also excellent.

My friends and I stumbled on the Chuma Gullah Gallery while we were wandering through the Charleston City Market. We ended up spending at least half an hour here, admiring the artwork and rummaging through the unframed prints, which were very well priced at $5 apiece. The gallery focused on art by Gullah artists and featuring Gullah people. There was art by several artists on display, a nice selection of paintings as well as plenty of prints. Jonathan Green, an acclaimed South Carolina-born artist, featured heavily, and there were also a number of paintings by a young artist named Quadre' Stuckey, who was mentored by Green. Stuckey was there on site, and we talked to him and the gallery owner for a bit while we browsed. Very pleasant people, and I really enjoyed Stuckey's work. It was so pretty and joyful, depicting black women in glorious hats, done in a modern impressionistic style. Actually, this was a common theme of the art here--it was a celebration of Gullah culture, just fun and bright and lovely to look at. I think almost everyone in our group ended up buying a print or two or three. I got two post card-sized prints for a dollar each, and my friends mixed and matched unframed prints to take home. (Some of my friends are fashionable black women, and honestly it's not every day you run across a gallery that all but specializes in artwork featuring black women wearing awesome clothes and having a great time.) I'm glad we came across Chuma Gullah Gallery and would definitely recommend a visit if you're in Charleston.

Everyone makes mistakes...it's how we handle them that matters. While vacationing for our anniversary my wife and I bought a beautiful original piece of art from Chuma. Weeks later after not receiving it I contacted them. After them tracking and tracking and going above and beyond the call of duty to try to find it for me but all was a loss or so we thought. They credited me back my money I went about life disappointed but accepting of the loss and weeks later I got an email from Kevin Clark...low and behold my painting was recovered. That was good enough for me but Kevin was so great he did even more and we're all very happy. I LOVE my piece of art, I am thankful Kevin got involved and I will return to Chuma Gullah Gallery one day soon. You owe it to yourself to go see them, they are VERY educated and eager to help! Thanks Kevin!!!

Sprints and lithographs but the owners are very knowledgeable and made us a big fan. While you are in the market street shops, they are definitely worth paying a visit to.

Very interesting art that is unique with much of it reasonably priced including frame. Learned about a local outsider artist....not sure if that is the current term. Info presented with no pressure to buy. I did purchase a framed print which was delivered to my hotel. A place to check out I the Market.

We purchased 2 framed pictures to coordinate together in our dining room while visiting Charleston and had them shipped to our home. It took 4 weeks to arrive and we were told they would arrive within 2 weeks. Once they arrived one of the pictures had a dent in the print. I took a photo and called and emailed pictures of the defect. It took another 3 weeks for them to acknowledge the defect and get them to send a fed ex return label. They said once they received the defective picture they would ship me out a new picture. Once I got confirmation that they had received the defective picture I called them to see when my new picture was shipping. They told me that all their prints of the one I had purchased were defective and they would be refunding my money instead of sending me a new picture. . They told me to contact the artist and order a print from him. I did look into that but it was way more costly. So why didnt Chuma Gallery order a new one from the artist and frame it and send to me ? Isn't that what a company with good customer service would do ??? YES !! I then emailed them numerous times as I wanted to return the coordinating picture I had purchased at the same time, since the two pictures were bought to go together and I no longer had the other print. I have never gotten a response and when I call they tell me they have to speak to the owner and will get back to me. Needless to say I have never heard back from them. DO NOT BUY FROM THEM UNLESS YOU ARE ABLE TO TAKE THE PICTURE WITH YOU. THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE IS HORRIBLE!! I SPENT MANY HOURS EMAILING AND PHONE CALLS TRYING TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE BUT NO LUCK IN GETTING A RESPONSE.
