Hamby Catering is awesome!!!!!! My uncle is hospitalized at MUSC Charleston, scheduled for heart surgery on Tuesday, March 14th. He and his fiancée decided to get married before the procedure. I wanted to help make their day special by having the ceremony catered. Less than 24 hours before the event, I reached out to Hambys, with crossed fingers and a prayer, hoping they would be able to help me with a small party of 30 people. Shall I say, Rachel and her team made it happen!!!!!! They delivered a little early than indicated but it all worked out, they were wonderful, the food was DELICIOUS!!!!! Whenever I need catering services I call Hamby. They always have a wide variety of food to choose from and they go above and beyond with the presentation. Also, whenever I'm at event and I find out that Hamby are the caterers I know I'm going to eat good! They are a Charleston staple that always delivers and has wonderful customer service.

Hamby did a phenomenal job with catering and the bar service for our wedding on 6/17/23! We had passed Hors d'oeuvres, a station style dinner, mini assorted sweets, and a late-night snack. The food was superb--every single thing we had was so delicious! Although we were unable to complete a tasting before our event, we felt comfortable with Hamby due to their past reviews--and you should too, knowing that they will deliver on all services. We had several guests state how it was some of the best food they'd ever had! Hamby took extra care in providing an assortment of food along with champagne to enjoy the day after our event. We are so thankful for everything Hamby did to help make our day perfect!

12 college friends wanted to have a special dinner catered for their 80th birthday. I sent an inquiry to Hamby and got a curt reply with no follow up. I had seen some negative reviews on yelp and would certainly add my negative review to theirs. I had filled out a survey on their website and entered an amount per person, which I considered to be a starting point to the discussion of what we wanted. Luckily, we found two caterers, Chef Katie and Rosemary and Rye, who were wonderful and willing to work with us. The total cost was twice what we had paid five years ago, but we were all happy with the results.

Great sandwiches but not local shrimp for the fresh shrimp! Terrible imported shrimp for the fresh shrimp. I can't believe that Hambys wouldn't serve local shrimp . Shame , shame , shame!!! They were inedible!!!.

Went to the SEWE festival & stopped by the tent for lunch because it looked like the freshest option available. Wrong. I got a chicken salad sandwich with chips & lemonade for $8. I didn't realize until I sat down how bad of a choice that was. This $8 sandwich was wonder bread topped with a tiny scoop of what looked like 99% mayonnaise & a few sprinkles of chicken. Not good, it tasted like pure mayo it was soggy & awful. Lemonade tasted like powder & had no pulp which makes me believe it was not fresh as it was advertised. Would never eat here again. We wished we'd walked over to chipotle instead.

I wrote a humdinger earlier about Hamby Catering and Events in Charleston, S.C. that without any doubt would have won a Pulitzer, and have just learned that it did'nt go through, and since the intellectual part of my brain is exhausted, know I can't duplicate the original epistle. So here goes-- Our Citadel Class of 1957 celebrated our 60th Reunion on Oct. 27, 2017, and Hamby's catered an open bar and buffet dinner for +/- 120 Classmates and guests in our hotel.It was perfect!!! All staff members were the best we've ever seen. The food was perfectly prepared and delivered. The bar was outstanding, with premium spirits and premium Personnel! I've had comments that this was our best reunion ever, and we've had about 20 of them, and we(the committee) credit Hamby's . Truly an outstanding organization! Thank you!

If you're one of the thousands of brides who choose Charleston as a destination wedding site, you should check out Hamby Catering. They've been in the area for almost 30 years and have earned their reputation for good Southern cuisine at reasonable prices. If you're looking for foie gras, try Good Food Catering. If shrimp 'n' grits sounds good to you, then Hamby's should be your first choice. Everyone I know who has worked with Hamby's applauds their cooking, as long as you stick with their menu. Don't ask them to forge new culinary paths, and you won't be disappointed. We worked with Hamby's for our wedding reception last summer and my brother-in-law's wedding just last week. HIghlights from the Hamby's menu include the ubiquitous shrimp 'n' grits with tasso gravy (always served by a chef), coconut shrimp, smoked salmon and grouper, chicken satay with peanut sauce, artichoke dip, spanikopita, and cheese and vegetable displays. Hamby's always does a great job visually arranging their dishes, especially the fruit and cheese displays and beverages (the berry water is especially lovely). Their style is decidedly Southern, whether your event is down-home or upscale. Their packages are affordable, and the staff is willing to rework the menu with you to meet a tight budget.

I just want to say how awful my experience was with Hamby's for my wedding on 09/21/2019. My mother-in-law offered to pay for catering for us but she said she wanted to go through Hamby's because she knew and loved them. Caroline Stevenson was great throughout the process, but when it came to day of, the staff and food was terrible. Let me just say that I had a wedding planner but something happened with her last minute so I had to start from scratch on everything about a month and a half before the wedding. It was beautiful though and I loved the way it turned out. But the day of the wedding, multiple party guests and members of my bridal party heard them make rude comments about my wedding, one of them I even heard as the girl did not know I was inside the house while she was making the comment to another staff member. There was a fight between my photographer and a staff member when he asked if they could make us plates as we could not break away from people long enough to make our own. We were told this would be provided to us. The woman who I caught making the comment on how "ugly and lame" my wedding was kept dancing with my fifteen year old brother-in-law and singing loudly most of the time, the only time I saw her doing her job, she was spilling trash all over the yard because she wouldn't stop dancing long enough to hold the trash stably. A party guest got yelled at when they threw a can away that they weren't aware had liquid left in it because they "couldn't take the trash out anymore since there was liquid in it." It not only embarrassed my party guest, but it was not told to us beforehand that we weren't able to use the same trash can they used, even though we provided the trash can and trash bags! I just want to stress how badly my husband and I were treated because they have no idea what their clients go through to make this day happen, or what they are going through in their everyday lives. The day before I had to put my two year old dog down who was my child with very little warning that it was going to happen. I was struggling to be happy on my own wedding day after experiencing such a deep loss to me, then to hear those comments being made about my wedding was a kick in the gut. I worked my butt off, spent a lot of time, effort, and money as well as our family who helped to pull this together, to only have those disrespectful comments be made. The sliders were dry to the point my guests couldn't eat them and the Mac and cheese was burnt. It was not what I had eaten in my taste test. They were paid almost $7,000 for the food and service, but it was a waste as I wish they would have never even shown up. They made me feel terrible on my wedding day when I had put together a damn beautiful wedding that I had to start from scratch not long before that. Update-- I was emailed back and they offered to put $500 credit for "the next time I'd like to use them." Which does not help as this was my first and last time using them. I will NOT book with them ever again so a $500 credit does me no good, and not even close to what I spent booking them.

Hamby caters weddings better than anyone else as far as I'm concerned. After being impressed with their menus, price quotes, presentation and portfolio; we decided to sign the contract with them last summer when we began planning our wedding. Hamby went out of their way to guide us and help us in this complicated process over the past year. The food and wine tasting event was very informative and a special meal in itself. On our specific wedding date of Saturday May 5th (Cinco de Mayo!), Hamby arrived very early and well staffed to set up for the amazing occasion. The food at the reception was even better than it was at our tasting session. Plus, they wisely spread out the food stations and had servers rotating throughout the crowd. They absolutely did an amazing job and our guests are still talking about how great the food was. My wife and I, as well as Toni our wedding planner were all completely dazzled by Hamby and everything they brought to our beautiful day. Bravo!
