Without knowing what it is or what they do, one gets the idea it's a foundation, a non for profit, a 503c someting -- one of these, perhaps all of these. A Quick search on their site showed a children's hospital, so that's all I need -- anything for the kids. I've been here before, but I couldn't recall when -- that is up until the point I was leaving when the fluorescent window beer signs came to life. Ahh, yes -- I do believe I was an enthusiastic patron of this side, but nothing in the auditorium, until today. Sixty thousand titles of books, DVDs, and records, fifty eight thousand must have accounted for the books. The tables were end to end, bindings up -- I kept internally thinking and verbally thanking the volunteers selfless efforts they all must have put in. Books ranged in price from one dollar to three dollars, a five spot will get you a "premium" book, indicating a signed copy -- I think. I'd list all the genres, not that y'all can't guess but upon check out my floor plan was taken back, which I had intentions of keeping. Getting charged a dollar for a dusty box to house my take didn't bother me, but was sprung on me, my credit kept getting denied on my fifty dollar total, so I had to call my bank. Small stuff in the big picture of being a book lover I suppose.

Support your local Shriners so they can support the Shriner's Hospital for Children. The Omar Shine is headquarters to the Omar Shriners. It is a very nice building that is used by both the Shriners and the public. Many events are hosted here throughout the year like car shows, home shows, book sales, etc... It's a nice big building with plenty of parking.

Omar Shrine at Patriots Point in Mount Pleasant is a great venue for hosting events. Of the numerous events I have been here for over the years they have always come through and I have had a good time. There always seems to be plenty of parking and open space to enjoy everything. Everyone here at Omar seems to be very friendly and helpful and is there to make sure that you have a good time. I also like that a lot of the proceeds for the venue go to a good cause of a children's hospital. There is plenty of room here to have a big event without it feeling too crowded. Omar Shrine has it all for event hosting needs and for events in the future that I may be hosting it will be on my list for consideration.

Went here for the Big Book Sale and was impressed yet disappointed. So really this is more of a review of the Book Sale. The Shrine itself is conveniently located near Patriots Point, right off Coleman. The space is ample and well lit, at least the room I visited. As for the book sale, I was disappointed that there was so much crammed into the large space. There were so many people that the checkout line winded throughout the room and there was so few cashier that it was at least an hour long wait to check out. :( I would definitely visit this location again for other events.

I am not a member of the Omar Shrine, but I was very happy to visit this location when Captain's Comics hosted a two day comic book expo, complete with a Star Wars day on Saturday and a Cos-Play contest on Sunday. Star wars, DC, and Marvel costumes were every where, and plenty of tables with artists and their work to be presented and sold. Lots of collectibles as well, but this review really isn't about the Expo. The building was very clean and wide open for such a large event. The entrance lobby is visually stimulating with statues and large glass windows to let in the sun, and there is plenty of parking on the side of the building. As an event venue, this location was top notch and very easy to get to and find with a GPS device.
