Stayed there several years ago so thought we'd stay again. The place is very tired. Our room had a cracked sink, scratched and scuffed furniture and needs much attention. The breakfast was good and the staff was very nice but unfortunately I can't recommend the place any longer

This place is so cute and the staff are so nice. We checked in late but they had everything setup for us to get in. Wonderful amenities like complimentary beverages and snacks. Breakfast was very fast and very good. I would highly recommend staying here. Plenty of parking behind the building.

One of best places I ever stayed in. I'm historic downtown Charleston in the heart of King Street. House built in 1700s and has all the charm with modern amenities (A.C.) without sacrificing detail. Made to order breakfast every day which was delicious. Snacks , water, and a lemonade to drink during the day with the perfect amount of tartness. This place does not scrimp on bonuses. The service? What can I say, easily the best in any hotel/inn. Everyone I interacted with were smiling, happy and made me feel like I lived there. I want to come back to Charleston just to stay here again. And the price compared to surrounding places was unbeatable. If your thinking about staying here. Do it. Trust me on this.

This place is beautiful, really goes along with the Old South aesthetic- every single employee has been warm and welcoming and extremely helpful. Everything downtown is within walking distance and the breakfast options are SO GOOD. We would absolutely stay here again!

Why stay in a Hotel when there are places like this offered? We recently stayed there for a little 4 night getaway to Charleston and just loved it! The house is quaint and adorable! The staff is super friendly, our room was clean and comfy! The breakfast was delicious! Plus, It was within walking distance of most everything we wanted to see do and eat! My only complaint wasn't the inns fault but big foot upstairs didn't seem to sleep or sit and paced back and forth constantly Book it today!

We stayed here for a few days while in Charleston on vacation. For the relatively low price, it is good. Friendly staff, great location. The free parking is a huge bonus. Don't expect a real breakfast. Apparently that only happens on the weekends, when staying here is more expensive. That doesn't bother me because there is so much good food in Charleston. There is real coffee (not hotel junk) that the wife says is delicious. This is an historic hotel near college of Charleston built in 1787 I think. The floors may well be original. I would advise not walking on them in socks because they are crazy slippery. The room is nice and clean. The cleaning staff is efficient. My complaints are 1) the heat doesn't really work and 2) there is a hot tub where there should be a regular shower. We were here when it was cold (for here) and the heater basically blew cold air. The thermostat said it was 70, but it clearly was not. This same failure occurs at my office building where cold air blows on us all and the management company claims that the thermostat says 68 so there isn't a problem. Right... The shower is a problem. A hot tub should never be combined with a shower. If you are going to have. Shot tub, it needs to be a stand alone unit. This isn't a 5 star spa/hotel and a hot tub is unnecessary. Worse, it interferes with taking a shower because it makes getting in and out more difficult than it normally would be. I'm not 100 years old, but it is some effort to step into an empty hot tub because the idiot who installed it did not make it flush with the floor as a hot tub should be but instead basically dropped it on the floor and caulked it in where it sat. This is an issue the hotel should address with the contractor. The wife comments that the hotel has soft towels, which she says is unusual. The staff is not wasteful she says, meaning that the shampoo and conditioner does not get thrown out and replaced every day.

I stayed here with my boyfriend for 3 nights, and it was such a good hidden gem in Charleston! I originally found the inn on Booking.com, and was surprised how much more reasonable it was than the hotels in the surrounding area. The room was spacious, and extremely clean for a historic house. It featured a TV, fridge, safebox (though we didn't use it), iron, and hair dryer. The toiletries were also included. My favorite part of the stay was the included sit-down breakfast. They had a daily special and menu. The grits were amazing , and so were their other offerings. The location of the Barksdale was also amazing! It was about 2 minutes walking from King St, and 10-15 minutes walking to most other prime locations. We didn't need an Uber during our trip except to and from CHS airport, which was perfect. Lastly, the staff was friendly and helpful. Check-in was at 3pm and we arrived early, but they had our bags and we explored the city. When we checked out, they also held our bags. Hotel guests had a specific key to enter their room (usual key), and a key fob to access the actual house itself. This added an extra level of security, and since the hotel was small (about 14 rooms), we felt safe. I would stay here again! Thank you, Barksdale House Inn!
