We heard that the Wreak was a place that the locals love (and where parts of outer banks was filmed). We walked from the Shem creek park, which was quite an adventure since we had to go through some neighborhoods. But at the end of the block, we saw the entrance. This place is only open for dinner hours, so make sure you go after 5. It was a fun place to be in, it's sailor themed and it was cool to be in a place where one of my favorite shows was filmed. We also went around sunset, they have a dock area where you can see one of the prettiest sunsets with the bridge in the background. As for food, me and my friend shared the fried shrimp and scallop plate. We wish we were hungrier, but this combo was a great size for us. The scallops and shrimp were super fresh and well fried. The sides that the plates were pretty good, I really enjoyed the hominy square, which is fried grits. It was fun to be able to try so many southern dishes at this restaurant. I definitely recommend going if you have the time and especially if you have a car. It's definitely a hidden gem, but worth the trip!

I have been here several times over the years when I enjoyed the food and the ambiance so I decided to try it again. Unfortunately, the food was not as good as I remembered. The hush puppies were over cooked and tiny for an appetizer. The grilled scallops were good as was the coleslaw. I don't eat red rice and the grit patty was minuscule. The server was attentive and very pleasant. I don't know if I will dine there again. I think if you are looking for a unique ambiance that is Old Shem Creek, it is great. If you are looking for a hearty seafood dinner, you may want to get a large seafood platter. The Wreck feels more like a tourist trap now than it did a few years ago.

The Wreck is a down home, very casual place to get some good seafood. Four adults and 2 small children were seated right away, and waters were delivered. Service was very good throughout our visit. One thing that dropped my review down to 3 stars is -- there is no air conditioning! It's a big screened in porch like space with lots of ceiling fans going at top speed which did make it bearable, but no AC. Best to visit in cooler weather - not the summer. The food was good, but I was disappointed to learn that at least the shrimp is imported from overseas, when all of Shem creek restaurants used to serve locally caught. For what we got it was overpriced.

Yes, this is the place from the show OBX. If you're a fan of the show OBX, you'll enjoy dining here. The service was great and the place was packed full of people. Be prepared to wait, because they don't accept reservations so plan accordingly. Luckily, there is a patio waiting area where you can sit and order a beer, wine, soda, and water. The boiled peanuts were my favorite item on the menu. I was able to get them free, which was great. The other food options on the menu was not as good, so I was little disappointed because it was also overpriced. Nonetheless, I had fun here.

I've known about this place for so long that I'm guilty of not getting here sooner! If you're looking for one of the last true local Mount Pleasant restaurants, then you'll want to add this into your dinner rotation. Set right behind the shrimp boats on Shem Creek, this place has eluded me for years as it's in very tucked away spot, that is still an active fisherman's dock! When you'll arrive, it looks like something out of a movie, and rightly so, if you've watched any of Outer Banks you'll immediately recognize the screen door on the right as a notable location. Walking up the dirt parking lot reminds me of just how going out on Shem Creek used to be - somewhat quiet, but busy with people. While walking up the steps you'll notice that this building has been through the ages, it's weathered and almost pieced together telling a story all it's own. At the time we went, we walked right up to the hostess and were seated immediately. They ripped off a big sheet of paper that serves as a table covering, perfect for Lowcountry meals and drawing to your hearts content (kids will love this!) Menus are simple pieces paper that you circle what you'd like as they submit them to kitchen. There is a good selection of grilled, steamed, and fried seafood to choose from. Most notably, you'll be wowed by the amazing view of the sun setting on the water. Drinks are served cold, bottled and canned. Boiled peanuts accompany the meal with a warm salty flavor. Such a hole in the wall but food was great. We loved the outside bar while waiting, watching the boats on the water. The shecrab soup and fried green tomatoes were so good, service was a little below what I would've hoped for but everything else made up for this. - if you are in the market for a good N.A. beer, this one from Lagunitas was fantastic!

This place is a rustic hidden gem in Old Mt. P. Very casual setting. Their local fried shrimp and oysters were perfectly done. Loved the boiled peanuts. Our server was helpful and friendly. Next time, I will sit outside and enjoy the Shem Creek view!

Not sure what the hype is about. Not a positive thing to say. High priced fried seafood. Brad could've prepared better at Captain Hook Fish & Chips. Google it! Kids running in and out of the place thru the back door like they owned the place. Most of the servers looked like they were ridden hard and put away wet. Poison ivy/oak all over the railing leading to rear area. Dog shit all over the area leading to the shanty they call and out door bar.

Ive heard so many great things about this restaurant. We weren't surprised with how run down it looked on the inside and the outside. It truly is a "wreck." Just a heads up! It's a local dive on Shem Creek which is featured on the Outer Banks. It was pretty cool to see the fisherman pulling the shrimp off the boats outside. The food was your typical southern fried fish and shellfish. Nothing to write home about after waiting for quite some time. I might go back if I'm in Mount Pleasant, but otherwise it was just an ok experience for me.

This place is a local gem. It's right on the water and had very good fresh seafood. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because the inside was very warm and not much airflow.
