I shouldn't write this review, because then The Other Store wouldn't be my neighborhood secret anymore! Would you agree that anybody who painted starry night on the back of their building it's worth a second look?! They also have a great covered porch to sit outside on, or you can sit inside at a few tables.The atmosphere is very casual and down to earth, definitely a neighborhood vibe lots of local regulars (like me). You can't go wrong with anything here. My personal favorite is the spring chicken, but one time I saw a woman sitting at the counter who told me she was from Brooklyn, and told me they serve the best Ruben she had ever eaten. The staff is so friendly. Everyone knows the owner is named Linda. I can't remember exactly what day but I think it's Thursdays that she cooks a chicken bog. Order at the counter, pay in the convenience store section, and then wait for your food. The homemade cakes are so amazing that people order them for parties. Your choice, sweet tea or unsweet, with lemon and sometimes mint beside the self-serve styrofoam cups. Truly a local, southern, gem.

Wonderful little store located in the heart of Forest Acres that serves a dam fine biscuit ! The best one is the sausage egg and cheese with a .99 apple juice to wash it all down for breakfast. They have a free books section for the neighborhood or any customers visiting the store. Also love the people who work here and their good attitudes about life. Local ice cream from Epworth Children's Home is found by the register. An old school place worth visiting, breakfast during the week only. Free parking of course to all visitors.

Went here last Saturday based on a friend's suggestion. I'd never heard of it before...and it is off the beaten path. We arrived around 11:30 and the parking lot was pretty full. Went in the back door after crossing over the outdoor deck/porch. The back room where they make the food was very small with people squeezed into real small tables in the corners. Had one person making the food, another helping load it and preparing and the third, Grace, taking phone orders, orders from the bar and delivering it to the tables when ready. People were waiting in line to order and others sitting in a little second room with about 6 small booths or more eating. My wife and I ordered a avocado sandwich (I ordered a half sandwich and potato soup). They come with a bag of lays potato chips. My wife found a booth in the second room as I placed our order. I'd read that the service is slow and I told he to expect that. It seems like all of the people there were familiar with the place and many knew each other. After about 20 minutes, maybe 25, Grace brought out our order. She sad she'd be right back with my potato soup. The sandwich was very good. Large sandwich on toasted bread. My wife could only finish half of it. Very good, but the tomato and lettuce made it want to fall out of the bread a bit while eating it. My wife had to go back up to the table and ask about my soup, as Grace didn't bring it right out as she said. I think she forgot about it. I wasn't impressed with the soup. It was okay, potatoes and cheese ( a bit stringy) with some bacon and shredded cheddar on top of it. Not bad, just okay. I doubt if I'd order it again. They do have a good selection of sandwiches and wraps. I think the food is good and it's definitely a hot spot for the locals. I was thinking of bringing our lunch group here on a Tuesday, but after visiting and seeing how cramped it is and the length of time it takes to get a sandwich order I've decided it's not a place for 5-9 guys to show up with for lunch. I'm only giving it three stars because of the service, ambience- I think the food deserves more stars.

Not sure why this place has so many stars, unless it's just because of the food. It's one of the filthiest eateries I've ever visited. If I hadn't pre-ordered our sandwiches by phone, I would have left. It didn't look like anything had been cleaned in ages. I will say that the sandwiches were really tasty. But after seeing the inside and after my friend ended up with major diarrhea later on, I won't return.

I'm tired of being abused by this restaurant. Every time it's "that'll be 30 minutes" and every time I walk in there 50 minutes later they look at you and then begin making the sandwich after 10 other orders have come in. It's disrespectful to my time, it's not honest, and it's incredibly frustrating. Things are tough right now, I get it. But maybe it's past time to charge an extra two-three dollars on top of your 8 dollar sandwich and hire a few more servers. Above all that just be honest with me. If it's gonna be two hours, just tell me that. If I have to put my order in the day before I will. Just tell me that.

The Other Store is a cute mom & pop feel shop. Always makes me feel good to support local businesses and this one was a hidden gem in the Forest Acres area. I ordered the Turkey Avocado sandwich (Grace's Avocadowich) and it was definitely larger than expected. I only ate half of it and was full! A few notes: - I noticed everyone else had called ahead with their orders. I waited around 25 minutes for my sandwich to be made and wish I would have called ahead. - You pay at the counter when you walk in, not in the restaurant section. - Parking is a bit confusing; seems to be you just park wherever your car will fit with no regard for those around you - There is plenty of seating in the store; both inside and outside

Came up just for a biscuit. Waited to pay and was told I must buy $5 worth of stuff to use my debit card and I didn't have cash. It's a shame that I live so close, because I won't be back.

Fantastic! Real food that is clearly cooked with love and integrity - something I haven't encountered in many Columbia-area restaurants since moving here. The food isn't fancy, but The Other Store focuses on real, high quality ingredients, and the end product is wonderful. Oh, and the service is extremely friendly, too.
