How do you buy a $4300 wedding dress and end up spending another $3650 so she can wear it on her wedding day? This is how. Beware!! The shop owner is a great sales person but then..... We purchased my daughter's wedding dress in February for a June 8 wedding. Because of out tight time line we had difficulty finding a dress that could be made and here in time for fittings ( or so we were told ) We selected a sample that was in the store from Lela Rose with full assurance that the alterations that would need to be made in order for the dress to fit properly and provide the coverage the bride wanted could be achieved. We endured 4 fittings, all resulting in failed attempts to do what had been promised could be achieved by Karen, the owner of the shop. The attempts to create modesty were simply to make the front of the dress tighter and tighter, which because of the design created enormous pressure on the vetebrae at the top of her neck. There was now way she could wear this dress for an entire day. The dress was now filthy from being handled so much and A WEEK BEFORE her wedding we had not resolved the issue. The seamstress sent a text during that week, which we accidentally received, saying she was f*#$@ing sick of working on the dress. What ???? This is a woman's wedding gown, selected for one of the most memorable days of her life. The owners response was that was between us and her. She was a subcontractor from her shop, so I believe that says it all about customer service. At this point we are frantic. I ended up having to fly my daughter to her destination ( our home town on the Florida coast ) with her dress 8 days before her wedding to have someone here, who had the ability, completely remake the top of the dress. The shop did not pay for additional fabric which I found shocking seeing that all this fell on them. Nor did they refund any of the botched alterations fees. So, how do you spend $3650 to have a dress suitable to wear? Failed alterations at the bridal shop. $975, Plane ticket to have dress fixed $800, Additional fabric $575, remake top of dress $1300. My advice. Go somewhere else, go anywhere else, avoid this shop!!!!! Any business will always be welcoming and treat you like they value you as long as they are on the receiving end. A GOOD business is one that will solve the problems that arise when there are problems.

I went there with my SIL a few weeks ago for one of my first dress shopping experiences and we had a wonderful time. We had the place to ourselves and Rachel was so sweet and helpful. I would definitely recommend!

I made an appointment a month before hand. I brought my family and best friend from Maryland who specifically traveled to help me pick out and buy my dress that day. We were on-time for my Saturday 10am appointment and the doors were locked. We waited for 30 minutes for someone to show up or answer the phone and neither happened! I am still in disbelief of their neglect. Huge disappointment.

I am getting married fairly soon and I was in town visiting friends when I saw this bridal shop. First impression, the employees were nice, polite, but not overwhelming. I have been going dress shopping for a little bit now and have a general idea what I want. The woman was very good with giving me some ideas about what dress would look best on my body, but again was not too in my face about. I appreciated that, although others may need more assistance. The selection was great and the prices were very reasonable for the type of dress that you will find here. I can afford to spend some good money on this dress and this shop allows me to get great quality from great designers at good prices. I would recommend this store to anyone in Nashville that has already had some experience with dress shopping. Buying your wedding dress should be an amazing yet not overwhelming experience and B. Hughes does a great job with that!

Why, B. Hughes, Why? I really wanted to have an amazing experience here! My wedding is going to be in Nashville in the fall so I figured I should look for a bridal shop there. I searched online and found that B. Hughes was the only shop in town that carries couture wedding gowns, so I guess this was automatically the only place to look. I called a few weeks in advance to make an appointment for when I was flying out for the holidays. During that phone call I asked to see if they had a specific Oscar de la Renta dress I was dying to try on infront of my family, and she said "no, but if you pay a fee (either $100-$200) we can have the designer send a sample for you to try on." Are you kidding me??? So then I ask well, would you credit me that money back if we bought a dress at your store, only to hear the response "well we credit it back if it's the specific dress they send, otherwise no." Obviously that rubbed me the wrong way... Being from Los Angeles, I had already gone to try on dresses at the actual designers' stores (Oscar de la Renta, Vera Wang, etc) but this trip was more about sharing the experience with my family and possibily going ahead and purchasing the dress. I bring my parents, who live in Nashville, and two of my bridesmaids that also flew in for this experience..... From the moment we walked in, it was all wrong. I don't believe the girl helping me was much older than 21, and I'm not knocking age but she seemed very inexperienced to be solo-working with people who are purchasing a $10k+ gown. We weren't offered water, coffee, champagne or anything. Before even asking who the bride in the group was she told us to start looking at dresses and that she would pull the ones I wanted to try on,. Then she proceeded to walked out of the area and left us..... Really? Okay, whatever but by doing this, this girl doesn't know if I have a budget, she doesn't know if there is a specific style / look I'm going for, she doesn't know my venue or if I'm getting married inside or outside, let me state this again, SHE DOESN'T EVEN KNOW WHICH ONE OF US IS THE BRIDE.... And she just let's us loose with no guidance? That's your only job! I don't work in bridal wear, but I can tell you the first rule is to ask the budget because you don't want to put a girl in a dress that she falls in love with only to find out it's a $20,000 dress and her budget was really $2,500. Am I the only person whose seen "Say Yes to the Dress"?!?!? I found a couple of dresses to try on, most of them were from 2008 - 2013 collections. They still had the ball gown from Bride Wars on the main rack.... hello 2009! At this point I knew this wasn't going to be where I found my dress, but yet again I wanted to share this experience with my family and friends, so I went back to try on gowns. I came out in the first gown, my mother was smiling ear to ear and pulled out her phone to take a picture of me in the gown. Then you guessed it, inexperienced girl very smuggly says "I'm sorry, no photos allowed, it's store policy and our designers don't allow it." I took hundreds or photos in the actual Oscar de la Renta store, pretty sure that's just your policy. There are no signs posted anywhere in that store, so how are we supposed to know? I get it, you don't want your clients taking pictures and then going out and finding a better store to purchase the dress at, but come on, they have a monopoly on the whole Nashville / middle TN market place! My advise, if you're spending this kind of money on a dress anyways, go to Atlanta, Chicago, NY or LA and buy. They have hundreds of more dresses to look at and try on and your experience will be 100x better. And remember ladies, when buying your dress you are also gaining a bridal consultant that you will have to be in contact with for 6-9 months before your wedding and they are in charge of making sure the most imporant dress you will ever wear is perfect. I would never trust these people with that responsiblity and suggest you don't either. I'm so happy this wasn't my first experience trying on and that I knew better. If not, I would never want to try on dresses again.

My first time in the shop was a Tuesday; that's the first day of the week they're open and I was the only one in the shop. It was May 6th and I was looking for a white dress to wear to an event at the end of July. I was the only one in the store (didn't need an appointment if you aren't bridal, which was very nice) and I was able to try on a handful of dresses. The selection was wonderful. I had one dress in particular that I liked and was told that I could get it in a color called "candlelight." I ended up not purchasing that day. I came back the very next day with my grandma to get her approval on the one I wanted. That day there was a bride in the store and I once again came without an appointment; I appreciate that Rachel helped me make the purchase when she had a high paying customer in the store looking for a wedding gown. This is unfortunately the point where all of the compliments end. I was measured incorrectly over my clothing; my waist and hips were off by two inches. The dress I was ordering came in number sizes based on your measurements and she told me I was a 0--I'm not. I insisted on ordering at least a 2, and that's what I ended up with. We decided to rush the order because the event was 11 weeks away, which apparently means you're pushing it in bridal. I believe that I was told it would have been here sometime in late June. She put down my information and we put down a deposit. As I was turning to leave, I realized she didn't even ask me what color--and I told her that, and that I wanted candlelight. My grandma then brought up the fact that she didn't ask my height or what shoes I would be wearing. We decided that I would just need a regular length gown. We left the store, and had NO RECEIPT. Yes, I will admit that was our fault for not realizing that we were not given one. Regardless, we should have been given one. I was told that B. Hughes would call me to confirm that my dress was ordered in the next few days. They did not so I called them myself the next week and my call was returned a few days later on May 14th. They left me a voicemail saying that my dress had been ordered, but it didn't come in candlelight and was instead ordered in white. I didn't want white--if I had known that earlier I would have picked a different dress. Fast forward to mid-June; I'm expecting my dress at some point soon. I decide to make sure everything is on track since I'm already a little weary at this point; my mom insists on making the phone call because she wants to talk to them herself. My mom gives my name and info; she can hear them shuffling through papers trying to find the invoice. They put her on hold. Come back asking her "what was the name again?" More holding, more searching for my invoice. Finally, after a worrisome pause, she finds the receipt. She says that my dress won't be shipping until July 11th. The event is July 26th. I'm panicking in the background. She says "The event isn't until November, correct?" Um, no. JULY. My mom relays the message that I was under the impression that it would be here in June--she's told that that's impossible even with a rush order because we were in May 14th, which was also wrong. She *called* me May 14th to tell me you ordered my dress--and I still have the message on my phone to prove it. If you ordered my dress a full WEEK after I ordered it then that is completely your fault. As I'm audibly freaking out in the background (read: yelling) she has the nerve to tell my mother on the phone the following: "I can *hear* her frustration. I would understand if she was a bride." As if I was less important because I wasn't getting married? I'm paying $800 to participate in a presentation ball and you're trying to tell me I can't be on a timeline? After this horrible phone call, the dress did ship on July 11th. I was phoned on July 16th saying I could come in without an appointment any time. I picked up my dress a few days later. It was snug, but thankfully I liked that. Everything was correct (just needs a little hem work) and I got out of there as fast as possible. Tonight I realized a strap was coming off. Needless to say I won't be going back.

Beautiful selection of dresses. I absolutely do NOT recommend this place if you are from out-of-town. They are not accomodating and more interested in your money than YOU as a customer. Very snooty. Also, they did not measure me correctly and toggled among three different sizes and still ultimately ordered the incorrect size, which is going to amount in even MORE expenses in alterations. One would think that they would take care of this after paying nearly $5K for an already overpriced dress. Overall, my recommendation would be to go somewhere else and explore your options.

The people were nice but they didn't have a lot of dresses I liked. I think I just tried on dresses to try them on. One dress had a cute top but the bottom wasn't nice. But in general it felt like they had a lot of crappy dresses that were left from last season. My two bfs found their dresses here though, so maybe it is the season.
