What a great way to see some local art and sip on free booze to boot! We checked out the Rymer gallery, the arts company, tinny contemporary, the arcade and the downtown Presbyterian church. Even Woolworth on fifth joined in and had a live mannequin window display. Totally worth checking out for an hour or two. Every first Saturday from 6-9pm.

The downtown art crawl is so fantastic for so many reasons. 1. Location: downtown but not near Broadway. You can enjoy being in the thick of the action without the tourists and the smells. The vibe of the lofts where some of the galleries are is so unique and fun. 2. It's free: yes, free! Also a free shuttle to take you from gallery to gallery. 3. Food/drink: some of the galleries have snacks and wine out for guests strolling through. 4. Art: the art itself is so diverse, you can go to this event 4 Saturday's in the same month and see completely different things each time. It's not mundane or repetitive, it's new and fresh each time. Some of the art is available for purchase if you are in the market for a different style piece for your home or apartment. Some crazy expensive, but some absolutely affordable! 5. Culture: there are so many people who come out to the event, it's a great way to meet people who might not normally cross your path. All in all, a unique event and a lovely way to spend a Saturday night in the city. Wear your walking shoes!

Our first time in Nashville happened to be over a "first Saturday." Given our limited interest in country music, I suggested we try out the Art Crawl instead. We started in the Arcade, where lesser known artists have their studios on the second level. I was not impressed. It was too crowded to handle the volume of visitors and the Arcade was frankly a bit run down. Only a couple of artists handed out refreshments, which is not what I expected from my online research. Just as I was ready to give up on the Art Crawl, we haded to the larger galleries on 5th. These galleries seem more professional and have some very unique art pieces. My favorite was the series of statues made out of colored crayon tops and bottoms at The Rymer Gallery. These larger galleries served wine, which was a nice touch. Outside of these bigger galleries were street musicians who helped create a festive ambiance.

The First Saturday Art Crawl in downtown Nashville is a fun way to discover different art and art galleries, socialize and have a glass of wine! (If you're me then a few glasses..just make sure to bring some cash to tip the servers) This is held from 6-9 pm and offers free admission to galleries on the 5th Avenue of the Arts (North and South), the Historic Arcade, the 21c Museum Hotel and the Art at the Music City Stop. As there are many different stops spanning across downtown a trolley can take you from your starting point to your next destination as they run a continuous loop in the evening. My friend and I decided to brave the crisp night and do the walking, which is not too bad but also we did not go to every single gallery on the map. We stuck to the museums in Stop 1 on the Art Crawl map which include The Arts Company, Rymer Gallery (my favorite) and Tinney Contemporary. These are the larger galleries that are very modern and in my opinion are more interesting to just look at but not things that you would actually buy. It is also easy to hit up a bunch of other galleries in the Arcade. The galleries in the arcade are smaller but also have a bunch of more affordable, local art available for purchase. Many of the artists are also posted right by their work so that you can ask them questions and chat with them. Each gallery we went in was very packed with people so you may have to do some shuffling around but it is a lot of fun still. I would definitely come again. Make sure you bring comfortable walking shoes and a warm jacket if you'll be doing the walking!

I heart this event so much! I went again on Saturday and was overwhelmed by the lovely and unique art that this city represents. I love it! From 6:00pm until 9pm the cluster of art galleries downtown open their doors and offer free wine while you browse the galleries. I really love the first block; it feels very "big city" and attending definitely makes you feel elite! The art ranges from pricey to affordable, depending upon what you are looking for. There are also quite a few prints offered, so you can still afford to get a unique piece for your home, even without having an art collector's wallet! I have found The Arcade's galleries to have quite a large range; some of them I love, others leave me quite puzzled. Example: this crawl there was some very interesting pink bunny "art" that was displayed and before I could make a snide comment to my friend I noticed a lady wearing pink bunny ears standing in front of her art... oops. I'm glad I held my tongue! Another big tip; at the Arcade the artists are usually inside the galleries, so um, make sure you wait to make fun of it until you are within safe distance! I do love going to the Arcade but the air conditioning was definitely lacking and when we'd go inside some of the galleries there wasn't AC and we were quite misty by the time we left. Also the wine selection is typically gone/barely drinkable, so get your wine at the galleries across the street. Definitely stop in if you are an art lover and want a fun and unique evening!

We have been to the First Saturday Art Crawl twice and we had two different experiences based on which end of the crawl we decided to start. Since it is called the Art Crawl I'm going to assume you know that you will (a) being seeing a lot of different art and (b) walking...a lot. Here are some tips that I hope you will find useful: The best deal on parking that we have found is at the Library Garage. It is a flat $5-8 parking rate (depending on if there is a special event) and the entrances are on 6th and 7th ave so it isn't too far of a walk to 5th. Start at the North end of the crawl. We did it both ways and had a MUCH better experience starting on the North end (stop 1 on the map). When we started on the South end we found the North end to be too crowded for comfort by the time we made it up that way. Had we been interested in the free booze and snacks, I imagine we would have been out of luck when we started on the Southern end. We also enjoyed it more when we went during the tourist off season (less hot and less crowded). If you do go in the summer, expect massive crowds and oppressive heat, especially at the Arcade which is enclosed and not air conditioned. Finally, there is a lot of art to see, so I recommend showing up at 6pm so that you don't risk missing any of it.

These are perfect for date night! One big draw is definitely the free drinks, which can include wine, beer, a specialty cocktail, and sometimes even a mixed drink! I've been twice and have enjoyed myself. I have no knowledge of art, but I enjoy walking around and looking at the variety in displays - some which I love, some not so much. Makes for great conversation. Two things that could enhance my experience: - Having maps that you can pick up showing exactly which galleries are participating. They had a map displayed in one gallery, but it would have been great to have one to carry - Having appetizers at some galleries

This is one of the best events in Nashville. Why? 1)Culture-You get to enjoy many different artists in walking distance (or by use of a free shuttle). This event is different every month! Some of the artists may be displaying the same work, but 90% of it is different. 2)Price-It's FREE!!!! Nuff Said! 3)Booze - Some of the galleries offer free wine or mixed drinks. Tips appreciated. Wine and art=Great Pairing. This event is worth a venture. Especially in the winter since it is not as crowded. The Feb '15 event had 60 degree weather! In the summer it is super crowded but doesn't mean you shouldn't go, just be warned!

This is a fun event. You get to see some great art, along with some head-scratchers. I talked to some of the artists, which filled out the experience. And who knew there were so many art galleries downtown? And who knew that the second floor of the Arcade was inhabited and not haunted? About the wine ... Don't get your hopes up. The galleries that had wine were out when we got there, and not a speck of food. But I'm not whining (much). I can't expect people to give me wine just for walking in with no intention of buying anything.

Really fun and a fantastic way to engage with the city, other people, and, of course, artwork. I was thankful for the map, but...directions could have been a little clearer (especially in the Arcade). The pop-up space and the interactive room in the hotel were my favorite for May 2019! Such a fun experience whether your flying solo, bringing a friend along, or on a date.
