Have taken the megabus four times this summer from Nashville to Atlanta. Always have to take the 6:20pm bus on Fridays due to scheduling. Every single time it has been delayed - EVERY SINGLE TIME. Last time I tried megabus it was 4 hours delayed - called customer service who was basically useless because they had no clue where this bus was. Update: positive side is because they were so late this time when I asked for a refund they granted it .

Terrible experience. Customer service sucked and they absolutely refuse to give refund and/ or assist with anything, I felt as though they still wanted to charge you more for any little service. I purchased a ticket found out that I didn't need it since I purchased a plane ticket instead. Contacted Megabus and they refused to give me a refund (which I did not see before purchasing my ticket) and only allowed me to trade my ticket in for almost 2 months out. Also, the bus was 45-60 mins late via the email I received. I was unable to get any type of assistance and basically wasted my money. I think the "no refund policy" is a trap for them to still receive funding. #Ridiculous #WorstCompanyEver Let's be clear, if a company does not allow refunds it's cause you pay for what you get.

I would give it 2.5 stars preferably but that's not an option here. Took the Nashville to Chicago route a few weekends ago. The bus interior was clean, a double-decker, at a comfortable temperature, the power outlets worked but the wifi didn't. The trip was pretty much uneventful until the tire went flat just north of Indianapolis. They had to call in two other buses to continue the trip. This took 3 hours of waiting around. We got into Chicago around 10:30p instead of the scheduled 7:30p. But at least they did automatically refund the ticket price. Coming back from Chicago, it was a cold morning waiting at the bus stop and a little bit drizzly. The bus was an hour late so standing out in the elements is no fun. On the plus side, they are good with sending you email notifications on when the bus is late and the updated arrival time. I also was automatically refunded for that segment as well because of the tardiness. The Wifi didn't work on this bus either. Once we got going, the trip was uneventful on down into Nashville. Overall impressions is that the buses are clean, but the bathroom was kinda nasty. I thought it might be like an airplane toilet that flushes but it was little more than a port-o-potty with no sink for people to wash their hands. Try to hold any serious business until a rest stop. Seats were comfortable enough, but not super comfortable either. Don't expect wifi to work. If you need to get anything done you'll have to rely on your phone's data, which becomes slow and unreliable once you are outside major urban areas. There are movie screens and driver mentioned he might put one on but that never happened The riders tend toward the lower class side. I guess intercity bus transport just hasn't caught on with the American middle-class the way it has in other nations.There were no incidents worth mentioning that happened. People pretty much mind their own business. But cheap bus tickets will attract some people who look rather trashy. I don't care personally, but that may deter some people so I'm just letting you know. While waiting for the bus in Chicago, one driver got in a dispute with the other and was about to fight him and had to be pulled away by a third driver. Never seen anything so unprofessional in my life. All this was done right in front of dozens of waiting passengers. I will probably give it a shot again next time I go to Chicago and hope for no breakdowns or major delays. Just be prepared by bringing some snacks and water to get you by in case and maybe a jacket in case it gets cold and you are stuck somewhere.

First MegaBus trip and loving it!!! I booked a ticket from ATL to Nashville for $19. Free WiFi on board. Top level has incredible views with expansive clean windows and a sunroof along the whole top! I haven't checked out the onboard bathroom but the driver has encouraged us to keep it as clean as possible. Some seats have tables and all seats have an electrical outlet for charging. I was worried I might feel Motion sickness but the ride is incredibly smooth so been working on my phone the whole time with no problems. Will definitely ride again! E

It's a good thing the prices are so reasonable, because the amenities leave a lot to be desired. Each bus is equipped with a Wifi connection, but it only worked about half the time, and when it did it was slooooow. Bring a blanket or at least a jacket because it was cold! The driver stated that he had no control over the temperature. Apparently it's "self-regulating". The bathrooms are one step above an outdoor portapotty. Hold it if you can. On the positive side, the interior was clean, every seat had its own outlet, and I went from Nashville to Atlanta for $33 roundtrip booking 24 hours in advance. The website states that fares are available for as low as $1 so I'd be interested to find out how to get those super low fares.

I have taken the Megabus to Atlanta twice now. Its a really good deal. I usually forget to buy tickets till the last minute, but even so - its only $40 round trip, while I spend at least $60 driving there and back. In addtion, you don't have to worry about wear and tear on your car or driving through the mountains of South-east Tennessee at night. I sit back, read, play on my phone, surf the web with the free wifi and electrical outlets, and sleep. The ride goes pretty fast - but on a down side - it generally takes an additional 30-45 minutes than driving. But with only 1 stop in Chattanooga it isn't that bad. The bus is rarely completely full - I often get a seat next to me open. If the bus is packed, the ride could conceivably be less than enjoyable if the person sitting next to you is not as petite as you. It may be déclassé but I'm happy to ride this bus!

This was my first ever Megabus trip and I have to say it went great! I took the 12 pm departure from Nashville all the way to Chicago. The bus pulled up (into the parking lot) at 11:30 and I was on board within 15 min. I have to say the bus is A LOT smaller than I expected. I think there were only 20 seats on the lower level. Word on the bus too was that it was "an older bus," which frequent riders seemed disappointed in. But we left right at noon, and here are the few things I think would be good to know for first time riders: 1. The older buses only have one electrical outlet per two seats (and a lot of them didn't work.) So make sure your stuff is fully charged just in case. Luckily mine worked, but for two hours I had the phone cord of the girl sitting next to me across my lap. 2. Anytime someone used the bathroom, everyone joked about it. The lower level is so small, everyone becomes friends/familiar with each other very quickly. So if you can't wait for the rest stop and have to "stink up" the bathroom, just remember that everyone will know exactly who did it. 3. Since it was an older bus, there were no overhead bins to put your bag. I had a big purse and a very full backpack and had to shove them both under my feet. 4. We made three stops: two quick ten min stops to pick up/drop off people and then one official rest stop at a gas station with a McDonald's & a Subway. We had about 35 min at the gas station. 5. I for some reason thought there would be a tray table, like on an airplane, to put my computer on, but there wasn't one. And space is tight. So if you plan on bringing one, it will be on your lap, a bit cramped. 6. Overall the ride was smooth, quick, and we got into Chicago 15 min early. I'm taking the overnight bus from Chicago to Nashville next week. Hopefully I'll have the same good luck!

Constant delays lasting from 1 to 1.5 hours and occasional cancellations induced with little communication to customers make this service problematic for the time-oriented. You may or may not arrive at your destination on time if at all. Aside from nice interiors, the buses themselves experience constant mechanical difficulties, such as AC breakage or strange under-the-hood mysteries that might strike without warning and last for hours. What's more, some drivers seem incompetent; for example, one taking me from Nashville to Louisville drove the wrong way down one way streets multiple times on a single trip in addition to forgetting to close the luggage door (Thank God the passengers noticed this before they lost backpacks and suitcases). The only redeeming quality of Megabus is its cheap prices. If money isn't so much an issue, I recommend driving if you can. Actually, for some trips, you might arrive faster if you use a bicycle.
