To the Director and Board: A good amount of money was spent to buy tickets to Verdi's Requiem. I, a 76 year old native Austinite arrived at the Long Center about 20 minutes early (at the entrance to the parking garage). The next 15 minutes were spent looking for a parking place in the garage. I ended up parking at the very top and taking the elevator down. There were several other older ladies as well there who don't quite move quickly. By the time we walked to the door of the Long Center it was 3 minutes after the start of a 90-minute opera. I raced to get to my seat but was escorted to the upper balcony. As I entered there was a lady bandaging her leg on the stairs. From falling there. When I got to the upper balcony it was pitch dark and the helper had a flashlight that didn't work. It took me a while for my eyes to adjust and finally was able to be seated, slightly short of breath from the race and the altitude of those seats. Other nicely dressed older ladies came in after me and stumbled around to find seats. We were informed we would have to sit there for the duration as there was no intermission for a 90 minute performance. Why? I ask you why? Along with a canteen of water, a flashlight and a first aid kit do I need to bring a catheter to the Opera? This is ridiculous. I am pretty ticked off and will not attend again until something is done to remedy the deeply flawed, user-unfriendly experience I had. Navigating in the dark for a 76-year-old is not something that is a healthy activity. You do realize a lot of your audience are seniors, don't you? You do realize that you all probably go to the valet or VIP parking I passed at the one minute marker entrance to the parking lot and then go to your box seats? You're not experiencing what other people are experiencing and I'm afraid you've lost track. I hope you will do something to remedy.

I had the opportunity to see Cruzar de la Luna last night with friends and had such a great time. The storyline had beautiful depth and the orchestra was outstanding too. Great experience overall, Austin Opera knows how to put on a show!

Saw a super awesome production of Cruzar Cara de la Luna. Beautiful space, super unpretentious and as someone who skews younger than the average opera audience member I would 100% go back again with friends.

I attended the Opera last night with friends and had an incredible time. We saw Cruzar de la Luna, it was beautiful. The orchestra was exquisite- I had chills at multiple points. I love that the Austin Opera brings in a mix of classical and modern operas. They even had food trucks and live music in the rotunda after the performance - I love how the experience of the evening was extended beyond the opera itself. Big Austin Opera fan here. Was a lovely evening and will be back!

My husband and I were surprised with tickets from our daughter for last night's drive-in opera in downtown. What a special treat! It was organized and all safety precautions in place. Happy 40th to us'. We won't forget this special evening! Thank you!

It's been awhile since I've been to the Long Center (as in pre-renovations) and was impressed with how much better the center is now than before. Definitely a good venue and better than Bass Hall. Saw La Traviata and was happy with the performance, although while very solid, was not quite up to par with opera companies in more metropolitan cities. Also - would love to see a longer season with more than three performances. However, this coming year (25 anniversary) has promise with three very good operas - it's making me seriously consider season tickets! If you like opera - I would definitely recommend going.

Got invited to the Long Center last night for 'La Boheme' and I was expecting one of many opera experiences where I act like I know what is going on but in reality... Not so much. This time it was different. - Wanna know why? Subtitles! - Austin's Opera has fricken subtitles this changes everything for me. - I overheard some folks saying that the subtitles change the experience and that this isn't the way Opera was meant to be experienced. Well... I disagree. - This is definitely the first time I've been able to stay awake and alert through an entire Opera and I'm a fan of ALO's approach. Also worth noting, ALO is the only Opera in the world that has a music school (Armstrong Community Music School) built in as part of it's mission. If last nights performance is an indicator of whats to come, I'd say we are about to start turning out some serious talent into the world. Nice work guys.

I've seen recordings of Metropolitan performances of Pagliacci and watched countless versions of it from the 50s on. I absolutely adore the story and have seen some gut-wrenching versions of it over the years. So I had reasonably high expectations when I bought tickets to see it on opening night a few weeks ago. Regardless, I was completely blown away. All of the actors' performances were stellar and the orchestra totally crushed it. (People regularly use "totally crushed it" to describe fine arts performances, right? That's totally a thing.) Totally awesome for them to subtitle performances. I can see why people wouldn't like that, but I love how accessible it makes the opera to the masses. More effort should be made to do things like that! (I'll add another star once I see something else but I can't justify that on just one time.)

Great performance venue with a really nice balcony area for mingling before the performance and during intermission! Would be nice if they had a cheaper drink option, though, to help those of us out who don't want to drink over priced wine. The performance, Pagliacci, was fantastic and the set design was classic. I'm looking forward to seeing Figaro and to see how they handle a much longer opera. For as great a venue this is, they should really improve their advertising, perhaps by utilizing the University of Texas more. It would really help their attendance numbers, in my humble opinion.

A gem in this wonderful city . Madam Butterfly was nothing short of extraordinary. This years amplify Austin campaign was genius. The AO is thriving . Do yourself a favor and go see a production.
