I'd heard the praises of this place on Reddit and from the mouths of new friends. Back in July I walked in during Hot Summer Nights. It was either dead or too early, or everyone was competing with everyone else that Saturday. I've been looking forward to my return since then. That chance came in the form of two more new friends I met at an event at Far Out Lounge in the south who spontaneously invited me to go with them. Not sure if the crowd is different during ACL but it somehow felt "young" to me, and everyone was in large insular groups. While the diversity of music between outdoor patio (didn't know this existed the first time) and indoor disco area was top tier, I still disliked the inconsistency within each individual section. There was a karaoke bar I loved in Atlanta (Dark Horse Tavern in Virginia Highlands FYI) and I still haven't located that same energy/atmosphere in Austin. Thought this would be it, maybe I need to give Barbs more chances! I'm glad they had non-alcoholic options on their menu, so I got a ginger beer and it was just what I needed due to an upset stomach earlier Friday late afternoon/early evening. Bathroom waiting room and overall aesthetic/divey vibes I did enjoy. The water station between the indoor and outdoor areas was chosen for a perfect location.

Imagine the darkest, grimiest and seediest bar with neon nights, and you've got Barbarellas. At Barbarellas, expect a cover charge at the door, below average drinks, and questionable cleanliness everywhere you go. Upon entering, you'll find yourself in the entryway with a small, cramped bar that quickly feels overcrowded (& physically sticky). Luckily, Barbarellas offers a substantial patio where another DJ is spinning and gives you more breathing room. Barbarellas is known for their themed nights. Expect a crowd that leans towards millennials+ &/or those who are eclectic &/or LGTBQIA+. Note: Bathrooms are unspeakably unsanitary, shared by all, with not nearly enough stalls. The lighting and black paint make the entire space feel grimy.

Barbarella is an Austin staple, dimly light with a decent sized dance floor and a few booths for seating. The music's good and bartenders are friendly even though it can be quite crowded during weekend. The floor's sticky though and you have to push your way through the crowd for a spot on the dance floor.

Goid nightclub they have about 4 different areas with bands so the vibe can change by just walking around. Fun themed nights through out the week. Never had a bad night at barbs

Fun. All black interior with black lights has a very retro 90s/2000s vibe. Cover charge is cashless so you'll need a card with you. Two rooms up front. You enter is the bar and right next to it is the dance floor with lots raised areas up front and the side. It was suppose to be 80s music but they were playing an eclectic top 40 with some 2010s pop hits. If you're a swiftie and haven't heard love story on the dance floor - it is an experience. It was fun crowd liked to sing along and dance. Mixed and eclectic crowd. There's a small outdoor patio at back that is connected to its sister venue swan dive.

I've lived in austin for 13 years. This is by far the best place to head out to on a Tuesday night for Tuesgayz. Best music, best DJ. My friends and I always dance our butts off. Always a night to remember. There's an outdoor patio that is very large and connects to swan dive which is also an awesome bar and venue. The clientele on Tuesdays at barbarella are always an eclectic group of people. All inclusive and lovers of dancing, fun and music. There is no food offered here but always plenty of options on the street. During and after hours.

3 stars for a reason. A man jumped in front of me and pushed me into a bartender, and of course I was the one that was kicked out. I feel very racially profiled, indefinitely the first time in my life. I have been here over a handful of times and spent countless amount of dollars. I honestly can't believe this is how my night turned out, I wont be recommended this place to anyone else. Turns out you can become the villain in even the most welcoming of places.

Really love this place and I'm here quite often. I love the flexible spaces where you can be indoors or outdoors and you never have to wait too long for the bathroom which is nice. The bartenders are fast and attentive. Here's my two cents and I may be alone in this thought, but I wish they would change 80s night to 90s night. Almost everyone dancing in this club was born in the 90s or maybe some were born in the late 80s... but either way, it just doesn't feel nostalgic like 90s music does for millennials. I don't go on 80s night because I don't know most of the music that's played and we always end up leaving underwhelmed those night. Consider it yall! :)
