Bartender offered me drugs the first time we went and the second we were judged based on our appearance and gender. Very uncomfortable experience overall. Was just looking for a location that would be accepting. For an Austin bar it was disappointing

For some reason I thought I'd hate Chess Club when it first opened. I really don't know why. When my friend's band played there I finally had a chance to check it out. I dig it! Cool intimate space where if you have 20 people watching your band the place is packed. Perfect for a weeknight! Max was behind the bar the first time I went and he and the other staff are dope. I definitely aim to get out to Chess Club more often.
