I was hungry and in a pinch between classes so I decided to stop at this truck that was in front of the PCL. I got two bistec tacos that came with carmelized onions, queso fresco (my fav), and cilantro on flour tortillas. These tacos were greassssyyyy goodness. I wish there was more queso fresco on it but the grilled onions were amazing. Grilled but still crisp and the steak was nice and chewy (in a good way).

This past weekend I suggested the Gibson Trailer Park for Michelle C. and I to grab a snack after our walk as I was craving a cold sweet treat and M had yet to eat breakfast. The Flying Carpet was not open yet so Michelle ordered some tacos from the new 2 day old La Fantabulous while I snagged a snow cone. I had a bite of both her tacos and was wishing I had not yet had breakfast or was hungry for lunch already.. The Portobella & Avocado at only .99 had all the flavor with very generous slices of avocado but still felt like a healthy choice. M's Pescado Taco was also an excelent choice - the pan fried fish and onions, white cheese and again generous slices of avocado were the perfect portion in the small corn tortilla and the green salsa packs the perfect punch of heat and flavor. The Pescado was just greasy or juicy enough to run out the other end and drip down my leg onto my dogs head;) I could not stop thinking about these tacos so much that I stopped by again yesterday for the same tacos as I trust Ms.M's choices and also got the Bean & Cheese (black refried beans, avocado and white cheese).. The Gals that run this trailer are fun and super friendly on top of putting out some Super Yum Cabo Style Tacos! They are kind of hard to find - they are at the back of the parking lot at Congress @ Gibson St behind Austin Pets Alive! The search for fresh Yummy Tacos is worth it!

I got the carnitas tacos during SXSW Interactive. Rainey was crazy, I was starving, and there was no line. They were actually better than I expected. They were pretty small, even with two, but they had a good amount of meat and interesting toppings. I thought they were flavorful and like that they offer something a little different than the usual "onions and cilantro". Not a bad choice if you're in the area and want a quick meal/snack.

Awesome tacos. Tried 3 different ones and loved em all. They're inexpensive and small, so you can fill yourself up as much as you choose. Love Love Love this whole food stand idea. Owners were warm and friendly, and totally kick back. Its not too tough to find when you're walking, but its a bit hidden back from the street. Their truck is amongst 5 or so other stands behind the crepes truck on the west side of the street (just north of Guerro's). Also gotta come back to try "The Flying Saucer" right there too (Moroccan food... gonna give it a shot).

It's tough to stand out when you're a taco trailer in a city so teeming with taco trailers, but on their second day of business, La Fantabulous was holding its own. Breakfast tacos ring in at a mere 99 cents and include your choice of any two ingredients on a flour tortilla; in addition to the usual suspects (eggs, cheese, bacon, chorizo), they also have nopales, portobello mushrooms, beef fajita, avocado, and black beans. They will not win any Largest Taco contests, but my portobello & avocado taco was freshly grilled, chock full o' flavor, and a steal at 99 cents. I also tried a pescado taco off the lunch menu ($3) - pan-fried snapper topped with grilled onions, generous slices of avocado, and queso fresco, served with a wedge of lime. Again, the taco was small, but what it lacked in size it made up for in flavor, and there was a complexity present that I'm not used to finding in the land of trailer tacos. The corn tortilla had obviously been acquainted with the grill - just enough to lend it a subtle crunch around the edges, but not so much as to make it dry or brittle. And the ingredients nestled inside were fresh, hot, and delicious. Although nothing about this experience was fancy, the pescado taco would have been right at home cuddled up on a plate with rice and beans in someplace like Garrido's. Instead, I paid just $4 for two tacos, got to enjoy them with Tara M. and our respective furry kids at a shaded picnic table, and had a sno cone from another trailer in the same lot for dessert. On earth, as it is in Austin.

Overpriced. Bad Service. Average food. This place is a waste of space on Rainey. Why would I ever want to spend $10 for two small, under seasoned, under dressed, tacos?? I'd rather go get a microwave burrito from a gas station for 1/10th of the price. It would be more satisfying and taste better. Simply put, don't waste your time go get a Gyro (or 10 gas station burrito). More food, same price, better service, and better food! 1 star for the green salsa.

I visited La Fantabulous last night as part of Austin's Truck and Trailer food festival, Truck By TruckWest. The signature dish for the food competition was a Carnitas taco, which according to the menu was skirt steak with grilled onions & poblano peppers topped with cilantro & queso fresco. It was solid, interior/north Mexican style street taco food with all the hallmark flavors and ingredients. There was nothing to complain about here. However, against the stiff competition of the other contenders, it was perhaps slightly overshadowed. To its credit, this was good, solid food. Served hot and quickly. with fresh ingredients and well stewed meat. But to my experience, it did not go above and beyond that solid expectation. It would be an injustice to decry anything about the experience but neither was it any better than any construction-site taco-truck you'll find wherever bunches of hardworking Tejano homeboys are grabbing an on-site taco for lunch. After only this one trip to the trailer, I felt that this was merely on among dozens of taco trailers in Austin with nothing to set it above the rest. Take that advice with a grain of salt, maybe next time, I will have the amazing experience that other reviewers have mentioned.

Through years of experience I have earned a black belt in Taco Trailers. From the streets of Santa Rosalia to tacos pastor on the east side, this ain't my first rodeo. The wife, on the other hand, isn't always as "adventurous" in her trailer cuisine. La Fantabulous is a true joy that left us both fat and happy. Fueled by the complimentary in-house made Michelada mix and some ice cold modelo's from home, we tried everything on the menu in one sitting; its that good! Every taco was delicious, but my personal favorites were the Bistek and the Pollo Achiote (think tacos pastor but with chicken.) The tacos are not huge, but 3 or 4 of them should tame any appetite. Fresh ingredients and made to order tacos make La Fantabulous worthy of many return trips.

LOVE these tacos!!! They get the fish fresh daily and you can tell. Trout taco with radishes & slaw was amazing but I think the shrimp will be my tried and true. Every time I'm on Rainey I will make a point to stop by here from now on. HEALTHIER AND DELICIOUS than other food trucks around.
