Meh. Decided to try this place for take away and that's the experience I'll be writing about. Ordered the gnocchi with tomato sauce and an order of fried mozzarella. The gnocchi aren't homemade, nor are they advertised as such. No matter, they were overcooked and pasty. The tomato sauce had a weird taste that I can't quite put my finger on but it wasn't good. The fried mozzarella was actually pretty decent; not over or under cooked. And for that reason only I'm giving three stars instead of two. My overall reaction, meh/gross and probably ok to some.

What's there to write? After eating food delivered from La Spezia, we realized that we have found it! We have no need to try any more Italian restaurants in Austin again. It's so good it brings memories of the year we lived in northwest Italy (just 20 miles from the town of La Spezia). Yes - it's that much of a real deal! * bruschetta where bright young tomatoes dance with the ricotta * a Caesar salad in which even the lettuce has flavor * spaghetti truly "al dente" with a tomato sauce that shines * pesto with a loud and strong flavor of basil, like it's supposed to * lasagna warms you on the inside, then reveals a burst of béchamel * penne á la Vodka - what balance of flavors! * finally, a spongy tiramisu so light it can almost float We need go no further in our hunt for decent Italian food in this town. Ecco! Lo travato!

I ordered over the phone for La spezia and it was very easy. The place is a virtual food hall , very cool. The attendant at the front helps you check in if it's your first time. Super friendly! They have robots going from the kitchens to the front pickup area. There are lockers where you can also pick your food from. The place is open clean and well lit.

I ordered the meatball sub, Fettuccine Alfredo with chicken and SPAGUETTI CALABRESI with chicken. The meatball sub was completely lack of flavor as I found with the Alfredo. They clearly could of added another meatball as I was left with about 2 inches of just bread. Very bland. The Chicken Alfredo, literally tasted like wallpaper. I paid extra for chicken and it isn't the nice sauteed breast sliced up that you get for $4 it is just some over cooked bland shredded/diced chicken. I am not sure they even put the chicken in the Calabresi. They had the nerve to give me one tiny about 3 in corner piece of bread after I ordered to full meals and a sandwich. I will never go back here. So disappointed. Over priced for very basic food.
