Need access to tools and a community of makers? Look no further, this is THE PLACE in Austin and has been for over a decade. From fabric arts to metalworking to woodworking to coding to electronics, this place has it all. Recommended.

MakeATX is a great space to learn laser cutting. There are two mega Legend 36EXT Epilog laser cutters that can fit materials up to 24"x36". I took the first laser cutting basics class which was a 3.5 hr session. There is detailed training on all the caveats and the do's and don'ts for the first two hours or so and then personal hands-on access to create an image using Illustrator or Corel Draw available on the computers there. Afterwards, you send your creation to the laser cutters and see it all come to life. If you have any questions, the staff was extremely friendly and eager to help with any questions. Nathaniel and another young lady who I can't remember her name :( were absolutely great. My experience there has been inspiring and I hope to return for further sessions soon.

Just attended the stamp making laser cutting class at MAKEatx. These gals were awesome! Not only did I walk away with two incredible, personally designed items that I really wanted, I learned a lot about the wonderfully artful ways to use lasers! I would whole-heartedly recommend taking a class here and signing up for a membership if you are an artist searching for a new medium through which to expand your craft!

GREAT high quality staff/makers and experts in this very niche skill. First, let me say that Eve and Kristen are really good teachers. Their workshop is incredibly informative and in a format that is accessible for anyone who might want to get into laser cutting, not just designers who are already familiar with the tools. The workshop convinced me to take up a membership and jump on the laser cutting train! Its worth the $100 a month to support the co-op model AND make really cool things that you can sell. Now I am slightly addicted. I have been a member at MAKEatx for just under a year now, and designing for the laser cutter has become my favorite hobby. I like the tight parameters of the lasers and the materials - wood, paper, acrylic plastic, leather. Second, they make really great stuff. If you aren't ready to be a maker yourself and just want to support their business, go in and take a look at all the awesome art and jewelry they have. A lot of the products they make in-house for the MAKEatx brand are not super expensive and make great gifts. they also take orders for custom work, to my knowledge. However, they seem VERY busy all the time, so I wouldn't call them up to order like 500 laser cut wedding invitations or something.

I attended the Women.design.build sponsored Laser Cut Jewelry class. I didn't really know what to expect, but this class was great. We spent some time looking on the internet and sketching out ideas for designs. Then each person in the class was able to develop a personal piece custom to their ideas and creative energy. I am looking for the next class ladies!
