Last night I had sometime to spare down near the University of Texas so I decided to get a beer while I waited. I wandered into the Mockingbird Saloon and was met by Derick the bartender. He told me about his beers they had and the place. He said later in the night there are many patrons from UT. Luckily I was early. The price was good and the beer was cold. Also Derick even though he is still a young man was a fellow vet! Thank you for your service Derick. He provided me with good conversation and helped ne pass my time. The bar has pool tables, dart boards and plenty of wall decorations or talking pieces! So if you are in the area and you are old enough, stop by the Mockingbird Saloon to relax. You just might like it. I did!

located right near campus, this is a pretty fun place for college kids to enjoy their evening having a drink or few, shooting some pool, or enjoying the outside patio. Since I'm nowhere close to a student anymore, I decided to come here on a weekday afternoon (with no students around since the year ended) to finish some work, finish a few outstanding Yelp reviews, and enjoy a quick drink before my girl and her family arrived from their day trip outside Austin. Inside is definitely saloon-ish vibes with the interior being a bit dark and dark brown-ish. Would've gone outdoors if it wasn't 90+ degrees outside. Plenty of brews to choose from as well. I enjoyed.

Fun college bar near campus. If you're older be prepared for the crowd but everyone was respectful the night I went. 3 pool tables that kept busy all Night till closing. Very good drink and prices

Just recently turned 21, was in town for friends 21st... Had yet to learn you couldn't put your drink on pool table, bouncer came up to me got in my face and yelled at me, grabbed my beer out of my hand and threw it in the trash and kicked me out. Such a little thing and even if it was a bigger thing there should be no reason to get in a ladies face and act like that. Huge power trip for that man, wish I got his name. Very scary & embarrassing. Other than that, bar was great

I've been coming back to this bar ever since the first time I've stepped through that door. This is the best hangout you could ask for outside UT campus. If cheap drinks, pool, darts and corn hole are something you're obsessed about then what are you waiting for?? It's never a dull moment here and everyone who comes is extremely nice and is here for the same reason you are. Now sometimes you have to fight for those pool tables but honestly that's part of the fun. Now the bathroom is where the magic happens. It's always a party and a great place to retreat too if it's getting a little too loud. You'll make friends in there and more.

Thanks for having me! I was in town after a long day of travel. Surrounding bars were packed with Super Bowl fans, huge lines and overpriced drinks. I was randomly looking for a place that had the game on and where I could grab a bite to eat. Ends up they were providing FREE hotdogs, chips and dips, meats and cheeses etc. were pouring wonderful cocktails and weren't overcharging. And to top it all off had the game on several large screens, with volume. Ended up to be a perfect day! Thanks again for the hospitality!

My bar away from home--where I probably spend the most time and money, other than my actual home. Mockingbird saloon is the bar formerly known as the Local, which was the bar formerly known as the Showdown. The new owners have made notable and appreciated improvements--removing the comfy but worn out, stinky sofas, adding pool tables, dart boards, picnic benches and better bar stools. The new owners are also simply lovely, quick to jump behind the bar and appreciative of us regulars. While my bank account may be impacted by my Mockingbird expenditures, I content in the knowledge that my money goes towards a wonderful local business and admirable local business owners. The Mockingbird bar staff (Britnee, Andy and Brian) are empathetic, considerate people and consummate professionals. They are all engaging, intriguing conversationalists, people whom us regulars would count as friends and part of our bar family. All of three bartenders were bartenders when Mockingbird was the Local, experienced in navigating the challenges that accompany a large student clientele. This unfortunately means they often are not tipped to the extent they should be (or even at all) but I've never witnessed anything other than respect and professionalism towards clientele that often is anything but. Student/young bar patrons: if you are out drinking, you need to tip!!! I have been so impressed and have very much appreciated the measures the bar has taken when it comes to COVID-19 precautions. It is a relatively thankless duty for the bartenders to remind increasingly tipsy patrons to don their masks and adhere to social distancing guidelines but the staff has remained vigilant and determined to keep their patrons safe during these unprecedented and scary times. I feel completely safe while in this bar; which I pretty much cannot say about any establishment other than my own apartment.
