Museum of the Weird located on Dirty Six has an entrance fee of $12.99 and for that you get to see all sorts of magically whimsical things. What you may ask? Well, sit back and let me tell you. This place is all sorts of things wrapped into one. Wax figures, creepy exhibits, movie props, collectibles, antiques, all of the oddities variety. It's like a cheesy collection of horror monsters made of wax, carnival, animal, and then some. Three floors of exploration that can really make it worth the entrance fee. Of course there's a gift shop with equally whacky, cool, and maybe endearing items. Check it out & decide what you think.

I have been wanting to visit since a movie producer friend of mine had recommended years ago. Finally got a chance to come down and visit. And boy did it not disappoint. This is essentially a robust horror/dust bowl era carnival sideshow in three parts spread across three floors. You have freakshow oddities spread across two floors also with large themed dens, Cryptozoology mixed in. You also have an enchanting, thrilling wax museum with the most amazing recreations of the most iconic legends of classic horror. You even have Bub from Day of the Dead and a Xenomorph bidding you well at the end of your journey. There are also two gift shops choc full of shirts, hot sauces, cuts of 35 mm film prints, books, candies and other items you should buy. In the upstairs gift shop I met a very nice man named Mark who was reading a Alejandro Jodorowsky book. Being a lifelong Jodorowsky fan myself we had some quality conversations that I enjoyed. The two girls downstairs were really nice as well. Very welcoming. In short, if you're into old carnival sideshows, oddities, Cryptids and horror you cannot miss this place. My only complaint about it is that it's not an 100 acre theme park. If I ever get wealthy, I will build a theme park honoring an era long gone but not forgotten. If you have a couple hours to kill, this is a fun place to spend some time. Just like all these types of museums (ex: Ripley's) the exhibits are a bit cheesy and the stories are at minimum, grossly exaggerated. But still, it's fun. Everyone in the front was very nice and helpful. After that you go through the floors on your own little adventure. Sometimes it gets a bit crowded. At the end, they have wax figures that make for fun selfies. The tickets were also cheap so that's nice too.

We love places like this so of course we had to go. Had fun walking around with our 6 year old. Nothing scary just cool looking. Was a nice way to kill some time before we went to dinner.

Fun museum of weird stuff, just like the name of the place! What I did not know was that Johnny Depp lived in this building while filming What's Eating Gilbert Grape, which was the coolest part for me! We went on a Monday without reservations and it was fine, but they do also take reservations. I enjoyed it.

Basically a cross between every Barnum & Bailey Freak exhibit and Wax Dummies of all the Universal Monsters. Nice little place to visit, though it is small. Don't expect anything too grand, but it's a nice little distraction for 30-60 minutes, and lots of opportunities for good pictures. Kids will burn through it in about 30 minutes, most likely. If you're interested in this kind of stuff, take your time and read all the exhibit information. A couple blocks away is the Texas Toy Museum & Arcade, also worth a visit.

It was amazingly weird and had a great Austin original feel vibe. If you are expecting some holy moly out of this world experience don't expect it. That being said, if you want a unique experience that is totally different and fun with one or two besties, this was a fantastic time.

Definitely weird! We bought our tickets in advance on their website but it's just as easy to pay in person. The two ladies working were so welcoming and nice. There are 3 floors of unique exhibits that were creepy and interesting. The location is perfect because it adds to the unsettling atmosphere. I won't lie I was scared when I walked in but don't fret nothing will come alive and touch you (hopefully). Saw a lot of things I had never seen before and the gift shop has a good assortment of things. I would come again! A hidden gem that I would definitely recommend to those visiting Austin.

Austin, TX-I loved museum of the weird! although it may be in a place where there is... uh, how do I say this... people who need help around it, the attraction was amazing itself! its not too scary or overrated for children, but also great for the adults. Don't have a regret about going there. in the end when you're done with walking around the silly things, there is a gift shop-with silly things! they are miniature-like. much appreciated.
