From the moment I walked in I could tell this was going to be a good experience... I stepped in around 2pm on a Wednesday and was the only person in there, but enjoyed a pleasant surprise. The atmosphere, customer service, and food were phenomenal! $6 for a really big taco and a self serve salsa bar with the best green salsa! Will 100% be back for dinner and future lunches.

I recently visited Polvos Downtown and was excited to try their food after hearing so many great things. I ordered the enchilada plate, and when it arrived, it looked absolutely delicious -- beautifully plated and piping hot. However, I was not warned that the plate itself was blazing hot. As soon as I touched it to move it, I burned my finger pretty badly (see photo). A simple verbal warning or serving the food on a heat-safe plate could have easily prevented this. I understand that food is served hot, but the plate was literally scalding -- hot enough to cause a visible skin burn. The food itself was tasty, and the atmosphere was lively, but the lack of a basic safety heads-up really took away from the experience. I hope management can address this going forward to protect future guests.

Came here for a birthday night and it was indeed a great place to celebrate. Situated in the heart of downtown Austin, parking was a breeze. They did take reservations but the restaurant was simply empty but it was a Monday night so that was obvious. The waitress let us choose our tables and we chose to dine outside since the lights and vibes of the outdoor seating was great. They charged extra but for entire table to use the salsa bar but it was great! Loved all their salsa and some were spicy but a few were rich and creamy - espcially the cartuja sauce. My order: Chile-Relleno al Nogal Enchiladas de La Casa Pitcher of Margarita Salsa bar The poblano and the cheese in the relleno were amazing. It was firm and soft to cut. The bean mix made it delicious. Wasn't a great fan of the enchilladas. The dish lacked flavors, had to pair it up with salsas. The waitress was kind to give us all complimentary birthday tequilas shots and a tres leches cake with candle on the house!

Food was mediocre and then I got food poisoning. So not great. We went on a Friday night and it was not busy at all, so perhaps that should've been an indicator, but I've been here before for drinks and enjoyed myself. This is definitely a spot to focus on drinks, because they do offer pitchers. The patio is a beautiful spot, and the restaurant itself is very pretty, which contributes to my 2 stars.

These tacos were great. I'm a huge fan of street tacos but I hate when they don't fill me up and the tortilla ends up ripping. These DEFINITELY filled me up AND each of them had an extra tortilla #lovethat Each taco was topped with cabbage, pico, cheese, and avocado. You can't go wrong with that taco topping combo The salsa was so spicy I definitely recommend sipping on some house margarita to soothe your tongue!! Be careful everyone!!

Took my friend out to eat for a her birthday for a party of 3. The waiter got an order wrong and proceeded to tell my friend "no that's not what you said." when they brung us the bill which they split in 2 it showed $20 plus gratuity on each ticket and it showed party of 6 and it was only 3 of us. The bill should have been about $40 plus each, they charged my friend card $100 plus for the whole bill then another $60 plus for the "split" bill then told her they would refund her, we asked for a manager. they said there wasn't one. We waited as the hostess attempt to refund the card on different machines. We tried to get clarification and the waiter told us "you need to leave." when they messed up the order and the bill. Days later never provided a refund.

Absolutely a no-go. The food, service, margaritas, and basically anything involved with this place has gone to shit in the past few years. This cup is a $16 side of guac and it doesn't even come with chips. What a joke. I've given this place the benefit of the doubt two too many times now. Ugh.

I was really surprised to see some of the negative reviews for Polvo's, as that definitely didn't reflect my experience. I came here as part of a happy hour with my coworkers, and had a total blast. Our server was exceptionally kind and helpful, and was super attentive over the course of the night. The food and drinks were all exceptional, and I was a big fan of my margarita and the chips, salsa, and guac that we got. Ambiance wise, totally incredible. We sat on the patio overlooking the creek, and it was a total vibe with the trees and all. We even saw some raccoons walking way down at the creek. In the end I ended up forgetting my bag at the restaurant (wups) but the host and manager were super kind when I called to ask if it was still there, and they found it in a snap and were able to give it to me the next day. A+ on all fronts.

This place has a 66 on their health inspection rating as of 9/24/2025. After reading the reviews, I saw that several people had issue with the food such as food poisoning, the food tasting "old," and that the quality has drastically changed. I would not recommend this place to anyone, unless you want to get sick!
