I have refrained from rating this place because it's such a perfect hidden gem and I'm scared it's going to get crowded and discovered.... However, not to be dramatic, but the barista there made me a dry cappuccino today that pretty much saved my life. Love this place for me weekly pick me up espresso.

First of all, you GOT to love a building pushin' 130 years old. Which may or may not be haunted. This building, originally "The Old Rock Store," constructed in 1898 - has been a general store, a post office, a Masonic Lodge, a Woodmen of The World Lodge Hall, Austin Pizza Garden, Madrone's Coffee, and now... SquareRut Kava Bar NOW SERVING PIZZA! I've been a supporter of the last few enterprises, simply because this place has a special mojo that only archival-if-these-walls-could-talk dwellings have. I am also a supporter of anything natural that can help reduce anxiety, calm the mind, and assist in sleep. (That's what happens when I order Lomi, which originated on the island of Vanuatu... a nice wind down.) Lately they've been having "Happy Hour Pacific Island Time" which entails some awesome discounts. BUT, FRIENDS! The kicker is the new pizza menu!!! Last week I called a couple hours before they closed and all but asked them to wait for me because I wanted to try their new pizza. When my guy and I arrived, the personable and professional owner and staff kindly offered up some intel about off-menu pizzas that were not only exceptionally creative, exquisite in taste! And for a short period, they're offering a free cheese pizza with every pizza order during certain timeframes (you'll have to check.) We were planning to take our cheese pizza home, but alas, we readily inhaled that also. The pizzas are all one size, priced on-point for the size, but if there was an up-charge for taste I would have paid whatever they wanted. One pizza is perfectly sized for 2 people not looking to gluttonize, or one person that DOES. The owner & staff are excellent and attentive. The coffee is great, the Kava is wonderful, the pizza is delicious. The construction going on (May 2025) blows huge conch shells but hey, it's all the more reason to go support this business. Go get you some comfort at SquareRut Oak Hill. But please save me a seat on the couch in the corner by the fireplace. PS - There's plenty of outdoor seating, too.

Hidden gem! Exceptional service - quick and very friendly. Very reasonably pricing for great drinks/food. Was able to sample their garlic knots (WOW, if you love garlic like I do, these will be a big hit for you) and jalapeño cheesy bread (also yummy!). The space itself is very cozy, but has plenty of seating to choose from. Lots of EASY parking. To note, there is road construction right in front that makes finding it a little confusing. Will be coming back for their pizza and coffee! Thanks for having us (-:

Great new discovery for me. Last night tried the food as well. The Kava goes without saying so amazing! Relaxing euphoric feeling! We love it! The staff is friendly, and extremely knowledgeable. Beautiful indoor space, plus a large outdoor area. If you'd rather sit in a quieter room, or more private space there are multiple seating areas. We love this place!

Great service and ambiance! Very chill vibe and beautiful indoor area, great to hang out, especially on a hot day. The kava bar is behind the coffee shop area. Super nice staff and very knowledgable! Taught me a lot about Kava and where it is sourced from. Enjoyed hanging out and trying the drinks. You get a lot for what you pay for, so bringing a friend and sharing is a great idea! They have goats in the back too which is pretty cool!

Chill new hangout with reggae ambiance. Reminds me of the time I spent in Costa Rica and Hawaii. I was bummed when Madrone Coffee closed. I still wear their hat. But happy this new business keeps this awesome building alive. They have a playground outside I'll definitely be taking my six year old to while I relax with some kava. Kava is an excellent alcohol substitute. It gives a nice warm relaxing feel without intoxication or hangovers. I really hope the Oak Hill community supports this place. It's a local treasure. There are board games to play, coffee on tap, free WiFi. A great spot to focus on studying, writing, or working. Love the vibe. Only reason for subtracting a star is because the upstairs is closed off and employees only. It was my favorite spot to drink coffee and work on my iPad. The barista said it's possible they may open it up in the future. It has plenty of cozy spots and decorated in a festive fall theme.
