Came here with my husband during the ATX TV Festival to attend The Gilded Age panel, and had another wonderful experience! We had previously been here for the Vivian Tu event, which was also great--this venue continues to impress. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the space is clean, well-organized, and never feels chaotic, even during big events. The bathrooms were spotless, which is always appreciated when attending longer programs. It's a great theater for panels, talks, and community events. We'll definitely be back again for future happenings!

Great little 300 seat theater. If you have an event here you're in luck. We saw Jeff Hiller, second row, during the Moontower Comedy Fest. For a comedian, second row was great. I think first row would be too close, you'd have to look up. If seeing a band here, I'd want to be a little further back, probably 4th row or further back. There's not a bad seat in the house. Staff was friendly and doors and show time were prompt.

First time at Stateside was so wonderful and J Roddy Waltson was magical!!! Originally I was disappointed the show wasn't at the Paramount but Stateside offered an outstanding intimate musical experience! The sound quality was excellent and the backdrop of the piano & line guitar provided as much excited anticipation as a large concert with all of the bells & whistles. I've seen J Roddy Waltson several times and if you aren't a fan yet, I highly suggest seeing him play live...he truly makes you connect with the music and you will leave with a deep appreciation for his songwriting abilities. Customer service was extremely helpful and answered my questions about the show. Honestly, the only major down side is the venue doesn't have parking. And bathroom upgrades would go along way. Tickets were a good price - especially since he featured new songs! I wish there was a meet & greet or photo opt afterwards. There was no merch table so I don't know if they take a percentage of the sales. It would have been nice to have a poster to remember this meaningful event. Overall, I'm looking forward to seeing more shows at Stateside and hope you find something magical too!

A historic theatre connected to The Paramount Theatre in the heart of Austin's downtown. This venue has an amazing and inclusive program and there's not a bad seat in the theatre. Staff is friendly and the space is clean. All in all, one of my favorite spots to visit for a date night or girls night out.

During SXSWedu, I saw a screening of Newtown that was presented by Independent Lens and KLRU. There was also a post-screening Q&A session. Stateside was well equipped to handle the post-screening Q&A since, in front of the projection screen is a stage area where folding director chairs were set up for the panelists. It's a great venue for that kind of stuff. The theater is housed in an older, historic building, with a double staircase that leads you to balcony seating. The bathrooms are also located on this level. There is one unisex bathroom on the lobby floor also. The theater seats were comfortable. There were also high chairs in the back of the theater. The concession stand is in the lobby to the right. You can buy popcorn, candies, soft drinks, and beer. There's also a watering station. Normally, I don't buy popcorn, but I figured why not? Plus, I had a hangry husband sitting next to me, so I bought two large popcorns. It was a little pricey, but there are few movie theaters where popcorn and snacks aren't overpriced, right? Overall, I really took a liking to this older theater and would come back again to watch a movie.

A friend and I had been trying really hard to make the Summer Film Series at the Paramount fit into our schedules. It was made even more difficult in that she works in Georgetown and I work in San Marcos. Finally, by the time it came to HItchcock week, we nailed a date that fit into both of our busy schedules. The Stateside is part of the Paramount organization, but it's a couple doors down from the Paramount. It shares a ticket office with the Paramount, so you buy your tickets there (or online). It's truly a separate venue, though, with a distinct character from the Paramount. Having grown up in New Orleans with so many great houses such as the Orpheum and the Saenger (as well as the Joy and the Loew's State), I really have a tremendous appreciation when I find one of these grand dames that hasn't been torn down. The entrance is much simpler, but still has the grand staircase to the balcony seats so typical of older theaters. Everything is fresh, and there is no musty old theater smell, as with some revival houses that weren't quite "revived".Seating is comfortable inside, and everything simple. It's not quite the house that the Paramount is in terms of decor and detail, however. We saw Hitchcock's Spellbound, which was a first view for me. Projection of the black-and-white film was clear and crisp. Sadly, though, the sound was horribly muddled. Both my friend and I had to strain to hear the dialogue, and often couldn't make it out entirely. We finally resorted to reading lips. The acoustics of the place were absolutely dreadful. Perhaps the sound system wasn't adjusted properly, but there was a terrible echo, which suggests improper sound damping. It was a double-feature that night, but we both left after the first showing by plan. But, honestly, I don't know that I could have sat through another movie. Listening was just that tedious. Great theater with excellent potential, but, please, fix the sound, guys. Or the sound guys. Whatever works.

Love this venue! It's quaint, so any seat is a good seat! Would definitely go back. Only complaint is it was hot in the theater.
