Upstairs circus is BY FAR my favorite activity in Austin (and maybe favorite activity place in general)! They have tons of really fun projects catered for guys and girls. There's specific projects, like the string art and urban silhouette art, that you can make your own custom image and it makes the project even more personalized. All the projects come with step by step instructions - some projects are pretty detailed/have alot of waiting time so you have to work fast esp if you take a long time picking out a project (aka me) I've been here for a date night, surprise birthday, and work event so far and I've had an amazing time every time no matter who I'm with. The unlimited mimosas + project on weekends is a great deal, and they also have a happy hour deal T-F for specials on projects and drinks The staff is wonderful, and will patiently answer any questions you have! I could not recommend Upstairs Circus enough :)

I came here for my sister's birthday because we wanted to do something a little more interactive than just going out to dinner. Funny enough, even though it's called Upstairs Circus, I kept calling it "Uptown Circus" for some reason and still do. My sister had been here once when she first moved to Austin, but it had been a while, so she was happy to go again. We tried to make a reservation for a Monday but found out they're closed that day unless it's a private event. So we ended up booking a Sunday evening during their Sangria Sundays event. Signing up online was quick and easy--no payment required upfront. When we arrived, we were seated at a table and given the option to sit side by side or across from each other. They handed us a laminated flyer with all the available project options, ranging from easy (about an hour) to more challenging projects that can take the full three-hour session. There was a good mix of household items (like coasters and magnetic shelves), jewelry, handbags, clutches, accessories, and even a pricier custom Nike shoe painting project. The sample projects looked very professional, but the final result really depends on your artistic skills and how focused you are during the session. My sister and I decided to pick different projects--she chose a handbag clutch, and I went with coasters. We got all our materials and instructions. One thing I noticed: this kind of activity is probably better suited for people who don't have a ton to catch up on while working. Since my sister and I hadn't seen each other for weeks, we were trying to talk and catch up, which made it harder for me to focus on the project. Some steps were time-sensitive, so juggling both conversation and crafting was a bit stressful. For my coaster project, I initially planned to use a stencil and transfer paper to trace a design, but it didn't work very well. I ended up switching to a simple two-color block design just to make sure I could finish in time. My sister's project was a bit more advanced--she had to do leather hole punching and threading--but she managed to finish and loved how her clutch turned out. Since it was Sangria Sunday, you get one complimentary sangria or mocktail with your reservation, and they keep a card on file if you want to order more drinks. I got a spicy cocktail that actually had really good flavor, even though I didn't finish it. Overall, this is a fun and unique activity if you want to do something creative with a friend or group. I'd recommend it more if you're looking to spend quality time doing something together rather than having a deep conversation--because focusing on the project definitely takes some attention. My sister was happy with her finished product, and I liked mine even if it turned out simpler than planned. It's a cool idea for a birthday, date night, or just a different kind of outing.

Crafts & drinks - what a combination! I really enjoyed this creative space. I made a beaded bracelet - a style that I've wanted to try making but just never set aside the time to do it. Simply make a reservation and show up to pick out a project among maybe 20+ options. All the supplies are provided to you, portioned to the amount you need, and the tools are in a toolkit at your workspace. The projects cover a wide variety of skills, with some basic knowledge of how to do stuff - thread a needle & bead, for example, and interest from beading to nailing to painting a pair of Nikes. Then the bar is right there, to stay hydrated during the hard work of crafting. Reservations are in 3-hour blocks - aim to get there at the beginning of your time b/c you will need most of it to finish your project. I went solo, there were others there maybe on a date & girlfriends evening out. So whoever you're with and whatever reason, try it out. #Austin #crafts #jewelrymaking

I love this idea of an art workshop that helps me unleash my creative side without too much pressure of buying materials or looking up a 1000 YouTube videos to know how to go about building something cool. Upstairs Circus is a great space to create an art piece of your choice from a myriad of options including wood frames, bottle opens, jewelry and so much more. Every piece comes with a manual and there are a few instructors around to help in case you have questions. You grab the required tools and get to work on your masterpiece. The Austin skyline wooden frame I chose to build had clear instructions, I was able to complete it within my 2-hr time slot and am so proud of the finished product! The cocktails served at the bar are an added bonus! Parking can be tough since they are right in the middle of downtown so you would be lucky to find street parking or go to a nearby paid garage.

This place is super fun! They have so many great crafts for the price of $43. I created my own fedora hat and it turned out really good! The instructions are on a piece of paper so you do have to guide yourself through the craft but the staff will help if you have any questions.

Mark, Damian, Justice, Omar...and the queen, Normandy, make this place so much fun! Totally worth it to set some time to do a crafting project! We stopped in here looking for a fun thing to do. Sometimes you have to call ahead but we got lucky on a Friday afternoon and were able to walk in and get a spot at the tables to do a craft. The crafts vary in time it'll take to work on them, which is also dependent on how well you can craft (or indecisive you are to get started...like us unfortunately). At the time when we went, there were 32 different crafts to choose from. Damian and Omar helped us narrow down our selection and choose the Distressed Wood Art project. You get the whole kit with everything you need, a brief explanation from the wonderful folks working here, and access to different paints and other enhancers for your project. Ours took a little over 2 hours, mainly because of our indecisiveness as well as having some beverages and conversations. I had a few old fashioneds and my wife had a couple of the vodka specialty drinks. They're all priced really well, and it's nice to just sit there and take your time while listening to the cool playlist of music in the background that they have. As our project came to an end, we cleaned up our station and Omar helped pack up our project so that we could easily put it in a suitcase. What's nice about some of these projects, is that they're easy to pack because they know that many people come here who are traveling. As we were checking out, we met the one and only Normandy! She was absolutely wonderful and invited us back to come have some drinks later in the evening, so we absolutely did! In the evening it was a bit busier, but we still had a great time with Normandy, Justice and Mark while others were doing their crafting projects. Again, we got invited to come back on Saturday for the brunch! We opted not to do another craft but to just have some mimosas before our flight. ALL the seats and tables were full of people doing crafts, it was super busy and Normandy was slinging bottles of champagne like it was nobody's business! This was by far the most welcoming, fun, and memorable part of our Austin trip. To think we could have passed up on this because "the project may have taken too long". Even if it did, who cares!? It was an awesome experience and we can't wait to come back to Upstairs Circus and make something new!

Came in for a team event with some coworkers and we had such a lovely time! Tip: Make a reservation during HH to get the $5 bubbles :) I'm not creative or great at drawing at all and I honestly was impressed with how my hat turned out. The staff is very good at explaining the process and the project you select have very detailed instructions. If you can read instructions you will succeed in having a fine masterpiece! Great for a group event or date night. I'll be back for date night!

I can't wait to go back. My friend and I were looking for something fun to do while in town for a girls weekend. We thought the Mimosas Sunday event was an all day thing but when we showed up we realized it was a set time and missed about half the event. We were going to leave but the staff helped us out with picking a project that would fit in the time that was left. My friend and I made these cute little beaded bracelets and had a great time.

This was a fun way to spend a Sunday afternoon! Although it was just me and another person, there were groups and couples around us. There was a big bar with all kinds of drinks and then large tables with toolboxes, blow dryers, and electric outlets. Along the walls were aprons, craft paint, gloves and string There are a variety of projects to choose from with different levels of difficulty. TIP: be mindful of the time estimated to complete them. I ended up not finishing my craft. However they sent me home with a bag of nails and string to finish it at home.

Such a fun idea especially for Galentine's day! It's a pretty hands-off DIY spot but surprisingly instructions are easy enough to follow to end up with cool new artwork. They had a special for 1/2 off bottles on Galentine's which we jumped on of course. It was a great mix of activity, talking and drinking for a girls night! The main downside is that it's pretty pricey to continue coming back to especially for the lack of hands-on instruction. It's more for the experience vs what your projects worth. They also don't validate parking after 6pm, and street parking is a struggle. And bring your own food if you're hungry - they don't offer food but allow outside food which is nice! Overall, I had a great time but it's unlikely that I'd come back frequently due to value, hence the 4 stars
