What a cool place. This is a non-profit wildlife gallery that gives free tour. Wonderful staff very helpful and knowledgeable. Great place for families even with young kids. Highly recommend this place especially for field trips.

Hidden Gem!! We were visiting Austin and stumbled upon this place on Yelp. It happened to be within walking distance of our Airbnb, which was a win win. I've never seen anything quite like it. It's a taxidermist/hunters dream. All of the animals in the gallery are real except I think 23! It's very fascinating to see these animals in what would have been their natural habitats and learn more about them. It's free to enter, but they do accept donations. I read you did not need a reservation, but when we got there, they asked us if we had one, but they did let us in quickly, so maybe make a reservation ahead of time. The large giraffe out front has a fun surprise when they let you in I will tell you our Airbnb host had never been and a local walking around the gallery it was his first time there and he was shocked that he had never checked it out before. Yes kid friendly (but beware some of the animals have been posed as attacking other animals as they would in their natural habitat, so if this would bother them then no) They have an entire entertainment area that I could see being the perfect venu for a wedding for a couple that loves hunting or even a guys club. The staff was very knowledgeable about the animals and friendly.

If you want weird, come here. The Warren Wildlife Foundation has a spectacular exhibit of over 2,0000 taxidermied animals on display. Yesterday we went for a free, unguided tour on our way to ice skating at the Ice Rodeo. (They do accept donations at the end.) It was the highlight of the trip into central Austin, especially since it was so hot on 12/23 that the four season's ice rink melted and we went home with a huge group of kids who would have been otherwise very disappointed. You can really see these animals from all over the world but mostly Africa up close (no touching but cameras and flash are fine). In some ways it's even better than the displays in museums like the Smithsonian or the Bullock because there is no glass case separating you from looking very closely and you're able to get right up close. My favorite was the jaguar and the giraffe. I also enjoyed the way the animals, including fish, birds, reptiles, and large mammals, were positioned in mid flight or mid leap. Taxidermy is an under appreciated art. There is a room full of horns, including a narwhal horn over the door. We went here several times before Covid because there was an art class my daughter attended several times in the large event room. We wanted to take more people to check it out, and now we can. I do wish there was more information on the iPads or even labeling the animals. We couldn't always tell the difference between the Fisher, badger, Wolverine, etc. so could have learned a lot more about them. Also the lights are a little odd; I think it would be nicer if it was white light instead of bright pink and purple hues. This museum is not for everyone, so keep that in mind when setting up the tour. If your friend can't stomach a discussion about hunting animals then this will not be his/her/their cup of tea. Don't forget to visit the bathroom; the dead monkey still hands you the toilet paper. And make sure to request that the person in the gift shop activate the [fake] animatronic rhino.

Went here for our 4th grade field trip and my students loved it! This place is beautiful, students learned about wildlife, got to see so many wildlife animals (some fun jump scares), and fun activities. They let us have lunch in their lawn, it had turn and shade. The gift shop was small but personally thought prices were reasonable, a lot of my students were able to buy something with money parents gave them. Did I mention it was free!! Even our parents got to go in for free and we all just had a blast. The staff there was so kind so us and our students. Note: they only have two restrooms and some students got scared of the animals they had to wait in the lobby.

A thoroughly enjoyable experience. I learned a great -- deal both about the animals and about conservation efforts. The tour guide was knowledgeable and pleasant. Many of the animals were donated or purchased, apparently from estate sales. They weren't all hunted by one person. This is one of the weirdest things I've done in Austin. If you're serious about keeping Austin weird you ought to be a supporter of this museum, though I understand if you might not be a fan.

I actually got to visit this place well before it opened. I believe it was in 2019. They were very generous in giving us a free tour. At the time they were having trouble opening the gallery because it was both a 'gallery space' and also had living quarters and there was some issue with the zoning. Or so we were told. I will say that they were very kind to us, but the place was basically a nightmare factory. To start with, the gallery space is filled to the brim with dead, taxidermied animals. Like every inch of the room is a diorama of death. I'm not a hunter but I think even if I were it would not be my thing. It is hard to depict what 900 formerly living beings look like when crammed into a small space and contorted to mimic their living motion, but I can promise you it is intense. Then there is the 'mission' of the place. They talk a BIG game (pun intended) about hunting as conservation. We were toured around by a young woman who held a high position, Director of Marketing or some such. As we began to chat it became clear her position was less about her experience in curation or qualification and more about the fact that her father was a hunting buddy of Warren's and had personally killed several of the animals. She was able to point out those specific animals to us which was impressive, again, given the orgy of destruction that surrounded us. However, she was not really able to answer any specifics about how the hunting of hundreds of animals, many of whom are extremely endangered, translated into helping those species thrive in the long run. After all, this is not ducks unlimited. It is more like Rhinos very limited. In particular, they actually have a dead rhino in the space that sits next to Teddy Roosevelt (not his actual taxidermied body thankfully). They have put it on a moving track and a speaker nearby emits snorting noises to mimic what it did before it was shot. Our guide could tell us little about how shooting one of the few remaining rhinos helps rhinos not go extinct, but did offer that the same man who shot it also shot Cecil the Lion. Impressive resume to be sure! Likewise, there was also some confusion when we noticed a stuffed baby gorilla. We asked if it was real and were told yes, that verisimilitude was their north star. When we asked what purpose, conservation, sport, or otherwise, was to be had from shooting a baby gorilla, she shrugged and said sometimes it just happens and seemed nonplussed that we were concerned by it. Finally, to come back to the main point, this place is a hellish nightmare of death. It is a building stuffed to the brim with animals who are also stuffed to the brim. Like the animals, the gallery itself has been contorted into a make believe position. Upon reflection, it is easy to see that the only thing this gallery is preserving or conserving is a rich man's fragile ego.

This museum was mind blowing, beautiful and absolutely educational! It's full of more than 2000 animals (taxidermy) from all over the U.S. and beyond. I have never seen anything like it. It's like you are walking through a scene of the lion king but in real life. If you love wildlife, you will love this place!

Most of us will never go out to hunt even a fraction of the specimens on display here. The millions of dollars spent to conserve enough of these few that have been taken really does conserve the animals. So we should all support this amazing museum. Much better than a zoo! Great for kids from 9 to 99!

This is spectacular place we have visited with children. They were absolutely wondered to be there and asked me to come again immediately after visit. Everything is very clean. Very friendly and helpful assistance. This gallery is one of the best places I have seen in Austin.
