We found this on Priceline, it was the cheapest cost around. They were very attentive to picking us up, which we liked. Our driver Bruce was a very polite gentleman. He picked us up in the vehicle we were going to rent. He showed us the buttons we needed to see for gear shifting, etc.. the place required you have active vehicle insurance, so make sure you have a copy before going there! The cell reception was terrible for us, nothing would load. The woman at the front desk was very nice and patient with us. Everyone was so polite and kind. The place looks run down, but it's a new business, so we don't mind the curb appeal, we care about everything else. I took before pictures and after pictures. This would have been 5 stars so far, but our vehicle smelled of weed. We called customer service and they told us to just let AVR know about it when we do our checkout email. It is a big deal to me because I have a medical issue and have trouble breathing around cigarette and weed smoke. The smell was making me quite nauseous every time we got in the vehicle! We drove with the windows down every time we went someplace, but it was still brutal! We have not experienced the refund issues everyone else was having, but I will change my review if we do. We are hoping for the best outcome! The vehicles were dinged up a little, but they had low mileage. I didn't have any tread issues or any issues with the performance of the vehicle. If everything goes well, we will definitely use them again! UPDATE: We sent the checkout email, received our deposit back less than a week later. And got an email receipt, explaining the charges we already agreed to. Like the toll charge that we agreed on beforehand, and the daily vehicle rental and the taxes breakdown. We are still extremely please with AVR. We hope everyone else starts to experience the same awesome service we did!

The ABSOLUTE worst experience I've had in renting a vehicle in 40+ years of renting vehicles. This company lies to you, says they'll pick you up from the airport when they won't, says they're on their way when they aren't, and then, after you've waiting in the hot humid sun for about two hours, you are finally forced to rent from a bone fide rental car company at full price with no discount. NEVER rent from these idiots! Do yourself a favor. Never!

Please DO NOT RENT A CAR from this company. Our rental was supposed to be around $160 for Thursday-Sunday, but somehow, when we got to the actual establishment, they charged us $500. They weren't helpful or understanding at all. They told my friend she could bring the car back on Sunday at a certain time but failed to mention that the shuttle service wouldn't be running. There was a crack in the driver's side window. We also called to ask if we could add a pickup person, and they said yes. Later on, we find out they charged us extra to add someone else. Why not state it's an extra charge when we inquired about adding someone? BAD BUSINESS.

I booked this on kayak or Expedia. I wasn't aware at first that this rental car agency wasn't where I usually go for my rentals in Houston. I usually take the shuttle bus to the rental car station, but as I was previewing my travel itinerary with my assistant I noticed she booked this Ram 1500 for 5 days through AvR. I've never heard of AVR so I was totally skeptical, but I forgives for the price I'll give them a chance. Big mistake....huge mistake! So the instructions say that when you land you must call this number for pickup and that a best western transport vehicle will pick you up in 15 Minutes. I did just that and when I called I immediately got bad news. The first thing the young lady said was "that there were no trucks and they would have to give me a mini van." Mini vans and me do go in the same sentence. So I asked why and will I get a discount for the inconvenience? She said "no sir that's all we have and we haven't had trucks for a month or so" so I'm fuming about rolling in a van. I always get a truck or SUV everywhere I go. Next they tell me that the transport is not best western but Atilis and I have to wait 20 Minutes. I'm done at this point and the transport came more like 30 Minutes later. Once I get to the facility which is on the other side of the airport I'm totally baffled. The building has a sign that says ace and looks like a barn where they slaughter animals. Inside wasn't that much better and apparently AVR (airport van rentals) and ACE are the same company. Now I know ace has been known to have bad rental practices so it's a shuffle the name game. Never again will I use this company. Cons: they held 200 on top of my rental and did not release it for 7-10 business days. They were late picking me up The vehicle was dirty when they pulled it up so I asked for a cleaning voucher ( they said it'll be raining all week so it'll just get dirty again) They didn't have the vehicle I actually reserved (ram 1500) They don't offer tolls as part of the rental (they just said avoid tolls or pay cash) Pros: it was cheap They washed the vehicle with a power washer before I left (it took 15-20 minutes) The moral of the story ...cheap isn't always better!

Ac was broken and the state of the vehicle was just in shambles. They don't bother to fix any tires that are worn down or maintain the vehicle at all.

Wish I would have read these reviews before renting. I will never rent from this company again and would recommend that you don't book also. Some reviews are similar to my experience with the local renter and deposit price etc., but I was okay with that issue. My main reason for never renting again is the maintenance and safety of the van. There were little to no fluids under the hood, and the tires threads were dangerously low with wire showing on inner part of front tires, and should not have been approved to be on the road. The van starting shaking uncontrollably when reaching 50mph. My family rode in fear of a tire blow out. If you do decide to rent from this company due to lack of availability with other companies, check the tires and fluids when your completing your walk thru for scratches and dents. Your family life depends on it. We were bless.

Despite the negative reviews I saw, I thought I'd give this company a shot and hopefully it goes well. Well, I was completely wrong .. READ BELOW AND AVOID AT ALL COSTS TLDR: Reserved 15p Van, prepaid in full - everything looked good until day before the pick-up date - received a call from AVR telling they don't have any vans, and they're pushing my pick-up time by 3 hours, which I couldn't do. They offered to cancel and issue a refund. I agreed. 2 weeks later I get an email from AVR staying my reservation was non-refundable and they're giving me a voucher instead that expires in 1 year. NO THANK YOU. I NEED MY FULL REFUND!! I had to scramble at last minute to find a different company that has van available for my trip. Horrible Experience.

First off, the shuttle took almost an hour to pick up my family and I, after we called and the lady told us it would only take 20 minutes. After a long and early flight from California, we were frustrated, but still in good spirits. When we get to the car rental office, we were shown the car that we were going to receive for our week in Texas. The windshield is cracked. There is a quarter sized crack right in the middle of the windshield and a smaller crack on the left side of the windshield. We asked to change cars and the only other car available is the upgraded van, even though we see multiple vans in their lot. Almost every car company we have rented from will upgrade for free if there is something wrong with the car, and the lady would not let us change cars. We had to call Expedia in order to get a car change, which took two hours. The manager finally got us a new van. This type of service is absolutely ridiculous, and the customer service is trash. It is obviously not save for us to be driving a car with a cracked windshield, and to not have any concern over our safety and well being is just horrible. If I could I would give no stars on this review.

Horrible experience still going through it as they have now charged my credit card another 1,000 for repair on the car that the insurance I purchased should cover. The story starts with realizing this place is not part of the airport rentals. You have to call a dispatch to send the ride which took 30 min. We show up at the rundown shack and wait in line for 20 min. We get a decent but very used mini van. We end up getting a flat tire and the spare in the van was a small doughnut tire. Needless to say driving on caused some damage. The insurance we purchased should cover it, that's why we purchased it. While still in the midst of this nightmare the customer service at the Houston location and cooperation has been non existent. Do not use this company , wish I had read the reviews before we did.
