So when I decided to give Angelo Z's a try, I came in hopeful but ready to judge with the precision of a seasoned shrimp connoisseur. First, I'll give credit where it's due: the place is designed beautifully. Clean, inviting, well thought-out décor. The staff? Top-notch. Friendly smiles, fast service -- the kind of welcome that makes you want to pull up a chair and stay awhile. But then my shrimp po'boy arrived. And that's where things took a turn. The bread was toasted -- yes, toasted -- which, for a Louisiana po'boy, is already a red flag. To make matters worse, it wasn't even the traditional French bread that's light, airy inside, and has that delicate crackle on the crust. Instead, it was a dense, over-toasted loaf that crunched like I was chewing on a roofing shingle. Then came the real deal-breaker: I bit in and realized the shrimp hadn't been deveined. At all. And for anyone who knows seafood, that black line running down the back isn't some "seasoning" -- it's grit and waste. One glance at that and my appetite clocked out. I understand I'm not in Louisiana anymore, and I'm all for creative spins on classics, but there's a line between "putting your own twist" on something and missing the fundamentals altogether. Unfortunately, this missed the mark in a way I couldn't overlook. Beautiful space. Wonderful people. But for me? A shrimp po'boy that isn't deveined, on the wrong bread, and toasted into oblivion isn't a po'boy worth coming back for.

Been on my radar for awhile. I wanted a poboy but going to New Orleans wasn't economically sound. With the generally positive reviews, I decided to stop at Angelo'z after a dentist appointment. The inside definitely has a Cajun feel to it with the decor; very Louisiana. I was greeted and made the 4th quarter decision to get a muffuleta, chips and a canned pop. My order came quickly and I was on my way. The sandwich itself was BIG. Loved the olive salad. The cuts of meat were quality. Prices are reasonable Loved it. Worth the visit if you can.

This small eclectic sandwich shop feels nostalgic and comforting. The daily combo is great value and I enjoyed my regular with extra chow chow. The Philly cheesesteak would be a skip though in the future.

I had a good experience at Angelo'z today. This is a cute sandwich shop which also has a mini market inside where you can buy spices ands things from around the world. They have multiple hot and cold sandwiches to choose from all of which look good. I ordered the hot Cuban po boy which was quite tasty. There was a good amount of meat and the bread was perfectly toasted. I would gladly come back for another sandwich again.

Angelo'z is a simple and basic neighborhood sandwich shop. I had lunch here a couple of weeks ago and ordered the chicken salad for $8.20 and made it a combo with chips and a soft drink for another $3 and change. The food was ready in about 5 minutes. The bread was fresh and the chicken salad inside was good with some cheese added. For the price and taste it was a good meal. Nothing fancy here at all but it met my expectations. It's counter service and friendly. I would return.

Amazing as always! We stop by anytime we are in the medical center area of Houston. The Cuban sandwich is the best I've had in the Houston area and as we search around town and try others they are still our solid winner. Keep doing what you're doing because it's perfect!!

Order two sandwiches from here to give it a try. The super Po'Boy and the Muffuletta. The muffuletta was good. The olive salad dressing was overpowering. Enjoyed the first quarter, second quarter it became too much. The Super Po'Boy is pretty aggressively basic for what it is, and the name entails. Especially for $8. It reminds me of a Jimmy John's Slim. Definitely not "super". The relish is aggressively sweet and overpowered the entire sandwich. I LOVE sandwiches and honestly, couldn't finish either one. Disappointed, but I know these sandwiches will be loved by certain people. Definitely a certain taste. And if you love those tastes, you'll probably crave these sandwiches. Just not for me.
