Dukes is a great place to enjoy Venezuelan food in Houston and definitely is a top spot for me when comparing to other Venezuelan eateries. The ordering at counter, then having food and drinks delivered to the table makes for a casual and friendly vibe. I especially like that Dukes is generous with their sauces and always brings their full bottle of sauces to the table including the avocado based guasacaca, garlic crema, and mayo-ketchup rosado. The sauces are tasty and elevate the already delicious food. From tequenos to arepas, cachapas to burgers, hotdogs to bowls, parillas to pepitos, Dukes has it all down. The meat has always been cooked to perfection and service efficient. The staff have been patient for whenever I have questions and want recommendations. The chicha and maracuya drinks are my go-to beverages when enjoying Venezuelan food and they make it well! If you like chicha on the thicker side, that's what they have. They also have your typical Malta or Frescolita! I haven't tried any of their breakfast items yet but would love to.

4.5 Stars My family and I really enjoyed this place as the food was hearty and portions were huge. My 6 year old saw the tequeño burger photo on the menu and chose that. My husband got the shredded beef cachapa and I got the rumbera. Service was friendly and the lady behind the cashier patiently answered all my questions about what the different food items were. I have to say, that tequeBurger was definitely unique, super filling, and very tasty, probably my favorite item of the meal. The burger had bacon, cheese, and fried plantains inside. And as if that wasn't enough, the bread itself was tequeño buns. If you are like me and didn't know what tequeños are, they are a Venezuelan bread stuffed with cheese. So imagine cheesy stuffed pizza crust in a sandwich bread form. HmmMmmm. We enjoyed the cachapa and arepas too, except I thought the meat was overly salty. Another small complaint I have Dukes does not serve any type of leafy greens on their menu. The only greens we had was the one piece of lettuce in the burger, and the next green thing were avocados. I think having a salad or veggie sticks would be a great addition to their menu, but, it's just my opinion. Overall a good tasty place that was very filling. Definitely come check it out!

Duke's was my first introduction to Venezuelan cuisine. The restaurant has a very casual vibe--you place your order at the counter, and it's brought to your table once it's ready. Since this was my first time trying Venezuelan food, I had a few questions, and the staff was very kind and helpful. We tried the arepas and the parrillas, sampling the pork, chicken, and beef. All the meats were flavorful and tender. However, my favorite items were the plantains and the juices.

Some of the best gluten free empanadas I have ever had. Talk about an outstanding crispy texture! The crunch on these empanadas was fantastic! I also very much enjoyed the vegan arepa. I have eaten here twice. Once via DoorDash and the other I went and picked up food to go. Each time the food was fantastic. You should definitely give this place a try if you are looking for a delicious food with a variety of gluten-free and vegetarian options.

They didn't make it wrong i just wasn't a fan. The bowl was basic but the plantain was cooked well. I tried the chicken, pork and beef. The pork was my fav, the beef was my least favorite. The meat was not seasoned to my liking but it was seasoned. They need to bottle their green sauce because that sauce literally made the meal. It was so delicious. I did not enjoy the empanadas (tried the shredded beef and the ground beef) the dough was too firm (and not flakey) but it was crisp and fresh. I'm sure someone else would love this place but it is not for my palate.

Duke's has already made a name for itself in other locations around the city, but their newest location here in West U might just be their best iteration yet. It may appear small from the outside, but trust that it's pleasantly surprised at how clean and spacious it actually is. They've done a good job with the layout and have a mix of group friendly tables with nice natural lighting throughout the day. The interior was clean and bright and there's definitely adequate seating for large groups and small ones as well. Never in my life have I paid $13 for an arepa, yet here we are. Each arepa is densely packed and I commend the kitchen for doing an excellent job on the packing. Each arepa was well portioned and perfectly wrapped with no messiness. I appreciate out every food item was listed out and I love how traditional the rest of the menu is. I was able to try their pelua, pabellon, chicken pelua and my all time fave, la reina. All arepas come in steamed (my preference) or fried (holds better). A nice surprise was the use of gouda instead of cheddar cheese which adds to the fun flavor profile. I love that they're so generous with the guasacaca sauce(s), a necessary component for all arepas and anything they offer. The latter is already available as a standalone bottle sold in-store, which is a brilliant move. I was also able to snag an order of their tequeños and their cachapa. Regarding the latter, I was a tinge bummed that the size felt small portion wide, but flavor was on point. I washed it all down with a maracuya (passion fruit) drink. The service was excellent as well as the young ladies were friendly and enthusiastic about having me try all sorts of things on the menu. Overall, I'm very pleased about the quality of the food and am looking forward to trying more things on their menu. They're off to a great start and are an excellent addition to the area.

Duke's Venezuelan Food I recently visited Duke's Venezuelan Food and walked away with one clear takeaway: it's not worth the price. While the food was actually pretty good--flavorful and well-prepared--it's nowhere near good enough to justify how expensive it is. The prices are so high that it genuinely made me question whether I'd ever want to come back. (Spoiler: I won't.) The restaurant itself is small and plain, nothing special--honestly, it looks like a Subway. The staff was nice, but just average service overall. One weird policy stood out: if you grab a canned drink, you can't swap it for anything else. Not a huge deal, but it felt needlessly inflexible and a little annoying. The biggest issue, though, is the value--or lack of it. This isn't unique to Duke's; it seems to be a trend with Venezuelan restaurants in general. But seriously, you'd be way better off making your own arepas at home. It's cheaper, fun, and you'll likely enjoy it just as much if not more. There's no reason to drop this much money for such an underwhelming overall experience. In fact, for the same price, you could go to a good Mexican restaurant and get double the amount of food at equal or better quality. I can't stress this enough: if you care about your money, stay away from this place. I'm very disappointed and won't be coming back.

Very good Venezuelan. SO happy it's close to us in this new location. Especially since our old favorites out Westheimer have really slid in quality. But regardless 5 minutes from home is spectacular. Only wish they could add some fresh baked break options like tequenos and caphapas were fresh vs frozen.
