Saw this food truck at a local farmer's market one Saturday morning. I got an El gringo and a Houston taco. I had also paid for a coke but ended up walking off forgetting about it. Now I'll never forget that moment . The tacos were good. I would try them again to get the pastry.

I first discovered El Topo food truck at Wednesday's famers market at city hall. I don't think I tried anything, I just heard all the buzz and saw one really long line. However, I had my first taste of their barbacoa tacos at the 2018 Butchers Ball - in which they one first place! - and was an instant fan. Since then, it's been my weekend ritual to grab their Oaxacan-inspired fair at Saturday's Urban Harvest Farmers Market. The barbacoa-based "Houston" is the way to go (and what won the aforementioned 2018 Butcher's Ball), along with the "Gringo" breakfast taco, but since going meat-free, I get their vegan-friendly "Austin" taco which is a medley of seasonal veggies, a tangy adobo barbecue sauce, pepitas and herbs. And the tortillas - the homemade corn tortillas are THE BEST I ever tried... and my mother is a bomb-ass Mexican cook who can whip up some delish corn tortillas. And she was even wowed at the Butchers Ball. If food trucks and farmers markets aren't your thing, good news for you they are opening a brick and mortar resto on 6119 Edloe

Ever since I tried their made from scratch tacos at a recent YEE, I've been trying to find the El Topo food truck to eat their tacos again. I came here relatively early (I preface this by saying that I'm not a morning person at all. Lol. Night owl all the way). I ordered their vegetarian and barbacoa tacos. Both were as I remembered them. The grilled cauliflower could've been cooked a little more in the veggie taco. Otherwise, both tacos were enjoyable. The veggie taco had a spicy kick and lovely texture contrast with pickled veggies and sunflower seeds. I also added avocado sauce to both tacos. I freaking love that sauce. Although they're a bit pricey for tacos, every ingredient down to the corn tortillas themselves are made from scratch. So, they're worth it, IMO. Tony, the owner, told me that he's in the process of establishing his own restaurant in the Heights area. These tacos will be on that menu as well. It will be cool to see the transition. In the meantime, come check this food truck out at the Urban Harvest Farmers Market. They're there from 8 am to noon on Saturdays.

I had high hopes for El Topo. This food truck serves up authentic tacos and you can always find them at Urban Harvest Farmer's Market. They also have a brick and mortar location. A common thread you'll find from reviews is that their tacos are pricey but the quality ingredients make up for it. And they do. What took things down a couple of notches for me was lack of execution. I went with the Houston taco which comes with barbacoa, onions, cilantro, and an addictive aoili. I asked for no onions but my taco had onions. I also went with la gringa taco which is a breakfast taco with scrambled eggs, bacon, and sauce. Two complimentary salsas are yours for the taking too. The eggs were fluffy and the bacon had a lot of flavor to it. Here's when things really started to go downhill. When paying for my order, they asked me if I wanted to add a tip. I assume this is a COVID measure so that you don't have to touch the Square device making it a contactless transaction. While I appreciate that, indirectly asking for a tip is a bit aggressive. I bought items from at least five other vendors at the farmer's market and didn't experience this technique. Nor have I at any other restaurant. I decided to leave a tip and it was a clear tip as it rounded up my order to $12. When I got home and checked my email, I found that they had added an extra 63 cents to my tip. Given the weird amount, it likely wasn't a mistake. 63 sends doesn't matter to me but it was the principle of the matter. Overall, the customer service and execution of my order were just lacking on my visit.

Was at Urban Harvest Farmer's Market on two different weekends so I'm assuming it's there all the time. Also sometimes parks up next to Kirby Ice House so you can have a bite while drinking. These are some /expensive/ tacos. The breakfast taco will run you $5 and that's the cheapest one - there are others for $8 or more. They are hearty tacos, don't get me wrong, but you can definitely get ones just as large for less elsewhere. Breakfast Taco comes with a house made bacon which is much too thick and chewy - prefer that bacon in breakfast tacos come crisp and crunchy. There's an exorbitant amount of melted cheese in the tacos as well. Houston Taco A lot of meat - almost too much meat.

I had a chance to try El Topo at the Urban Harvest Farmer's Market a few weeks back. My friend and I had the chance to try several items that they had, and it was overall pretty underwhelming. I think it could be due to the wait time for our orders in the sun as well, I think we must have waited over 30 minutes just for 3 items. The taco truck clearly needed more staff on duty to meet the demand that day. My take on the items we ordered: - Oaxacan-style black bean + cheese taco: This was a freebie from the Yelp Elite event. I think it was alright, I do like the melted cheese, but I wasn't a fan of the taco and the beans. - San Antonio grilled cheese: So-so, the barbacoa had some fatty part to it, which was great. However, the sandwich was a little burned for our taste. It was also off-putting when seeing the staff handling finishing off the grilled cheese with barehand through the window as well.. - Houston taco: Decent barbacoa taco.

We stopped by the farmers market to try out this food truck, and it was great! I ordered the Houston Taco, which was barbacoa on a corn tortilla. I can't decide which was better--the barbacoa or the tortilla--they were both so good! The barbacoa was high quality and perfectly cooked, and the corn tortillas was one of those thick, obviously homemade corn tortillas, so good. I took a bite of my friend's breakfast taco on a flour tortilla, and, while tasty, the Houston barbacoa taco was definitely my favorite. I will say that El Topo's tacos are perhaps one of the more expensive taco's I've had in Houston at $5 per taco, particularly for a taco truck. BUT, they are definitely very high quality and worth the splurge.

Cute small restaurant in the West University area , really love what they did with the space! El Topo is a Food Truck that just open a location here and let me tell you the food is Delish!! Make sure to tried The barbacoa Taco " Houston" you can't go wrong with it , also the vegetarian taco "Austin" was really good ! The Tortillas are homemade and probably the best tortillas I have ever tried! The place offers wine and has a beautiful ouTdoor sitting too and to make it better is kids friendly ! Swing by when you are in the area and give it a tried!
