A fun fabulous place to learn ceramics. Even after going to the studio for years, I always learn something new. John and Judy are insightful and patient teachers who know and are passionate about their craft. I always feel welcome to explore new projects while being supported in the process. I feel that all students are given the opportunity to both relax and learn.

I discovered this family run studio conveniently located in Montrose last July and I'm so pleased that I did. I started out in the beginner class with no previous experience and quickly learned the basics. The beginner class is a reasonable $170 for a 5 week session and you can count on coming home with 6+ pieces. Your final class will be a potluck, work reveal and Raku firing. John and Judy allowed me to take the beginner class for a few sessions until I was confident enough to move forward to the intermediate. I'm currently taking 3 month intermediate sessions with the option of extra studio time on Saturdays for $5. I love to come to class and unwind on Monday nights after a long day; playing with clay is really a form of therapy. The owners are there to assist you hands-on and help you achieve the best result (as are some of your classmates that have been students here for many years). John and Judy often have a different approach to their craft, which is beneficial in that you're exposed to more than one perspective and technique. The best advice that I can give is to eliminate your expectations. Almost every piece you make will look different than you envisioned, but you'll learn to love the unpredictability.

I took the beginners class here and absolutely loved it. I'd recommend this class to everyone! The teachers, John and Judy, let you have a ton of artistic freedom and are so kind! I made 5 pieces total. I loved the class so much that I plan to retake the beginners class again.

My husband and I signed up for a beginner pottery class at Foelber. I've been wanting to do this forever. And, I'm so glad we did. We had so much fun!!! Judy and John, the owners, are incredible. They're so patient and super helpful and really make the process such fun. I'm actually ready to do it again! It was so fun anticipating what the pieces would turn out like - I felt like a kid at Christmas waiting for the last firing. Highly recommend for anyone. It's be super fun with a group, too. We're going to re-take the beginner class later this year. I can't wait!!

The description on Yelp for this business is precise and accurate. It is the ONLY place where you can learn SERIOUS pottery. My 8 yr old went to this studio for two years during summer and we ABSOLUTELY loved it. I am not sure who the other reviewer is talking about but Judy and Rita are fantastic with kids. My daughter adored them and learned a ton. unfortunately for us, the studio discontinued the summer camp of kids and we have not been able to find a good replacement. I still check their website ever so often to see if they offer it back again. I was THAT impressed with what my 8-year old learned there and brought back home. Thank you Ms. Judy. I am in NO WAY affiliated to this studio. I just truly am a huge fan of theirs!

I took a beginner Potter Class through Foelber studio. The class was five weeks long, and lead you through the complete claymaking process -- hand, wheel, glazing, and firing. The owners gave a lot of hands on advice to help you feel comfortable with the wheel. They were also understanding about scheduling - I had a work conflict one week, and they let me reschedule class and come on Saturday for that session. On the last day of class, they threw a potluck pottery, and let us tour the gallery. There were some really great pieces! I ended up with five pieces of my own creation, two of which I consider presentable (and one of those ended up in my office at work). I'd like to return to foelber for more practice throwing pottery on a wheel.

I wanted to pick up a new hobby and always thought that pottery was really interesting. FYI, there aren't a lot of places in Houston (especially in the loop) to learn pottery so when I stumbled upon this place, I was ecstatic considering it was close to where I lived. For adult beginner classes, there are 5 sessions that are 2 hours long in which you can learn how to do do hand molded pottery and using the wheel. I don't feel like it's really structured but you do learn the basics and the classes are really easy going. My only complaint was I wish that the instructors showed us more sculptures to get ideas of what sort of pottery pieces to make. I do suggest that they should take pictures of some of the best pieces from each class and just have a photo book for the students to just scroll through. I would benefit a lot since I am not that creative. I enjoyed my experience but am not going to be continuing the classes moreso because of the price- which is a whooping $170 for the 5 sessions. Also, I just didn't know what to do with all of my pieces, I don't have a lot of storage..

I began a beginner class at this studio, but I could not finish. The first night was fine. The instructor (owner) spoke in a very soft voice, and it was hard to hear him, but Mercedes (another instructor) was an amazing help. Then the wife showed up. That's when it all went down hill. During the second class, she came in and started bossing people around. This was an adult beginner class and she was treating all of us as if we were disruptive children. The sad part is- she actually does work with children. If she spoke to my child the way that she spoke to me, we would have a problem. Please don't take this class, and PLEASE don't send your children there. (BTW, I am a public school educator, so I know how to work with children)

I have been taking class for 7 years. I love pottery class!! John and Judy are wonderful people to work with. I have learned al lot from them. We have a great time during class. I recommend it for everybody. They also have kids classes. You should try it!!! It is fun!!!
