With several locations across the city and beyond, the local chain Gorditas y Tacos La Bala finally opened its Med Center location last summer joining the growing number of eateries around NRG Center. Sport spacious digs, a friendly staff, and decent food, I'd be willing to bet this is their best location yet. Compared to their sister locations, this may be their best location yet. The interior is massive with high ceilings and endless seating options, with a prominent video wall and an accompanying sound system that gives off immediate party vibes. Since I've come mainly in the morning and during lunch, I've yet to see much of a crowd here. The food is a solid variety of Mexican fare with tacos, gorditas, quesadillas, sopes, burritos, tortas, tostadas, and a dedicated birria section. The window to the grilled meats makes for a fun time and I appreciate the large selection of breakfast tacos. The latter addresses an area of opportunity considering the neighborhood is devoid of any real breakfast tacos selection. For this alone, the place gets a big thumbs up. I have enjoyed a handful of their breakfast platters, such as their chilaquiles and ranchero eggs. The eggs with machacado have emerged as a go-to option for the breakfast tacos but the cochinita pibil is a nice and surprising option for the meats. The prices are going to be a little higher, so I tend to shoot for more premium meats to make it worth my whole. They do accept credit cards, parking isn't an issue, and the staff is (mostly) bilingual in Spanish and English. Ultimately, they're off to a solid start and I hope to see more bodies in the place sooner than later.

Overall ok. Had a good time there but probably wouldn't make a special trip to come back. This place is a fast casual, order at the counter, lunch place. Situated in the medical center, theres a good amount of loyal traffic around. Walking in you'll see a huge multi screen playing 'Selena' videos the entire time. Really neat! I got the quesadilla with cow tongue and it was absolutely tasty! The cheese was stringy and delicious. The cow tongue was very tender and tasty. You'll get some salsa and a good amount for $10. You'll also have some hot sauce and salsa verde on the tables. I also got the margarita and was absolutely devastated. The margaritas has ZERO alcohol in it. It was just a slushie. I even gave it to my toddler to taste. Maybe they forgot to put in the alcohol but it was just a flavored slushie that they charge more for. What a tragedy Glad I tried, but won't comeback for a special drive. You can get solid quesadillas elsewhere closer and perhaps other places won't forget to put their alcohol in margaritas.

I was eager to try a gordita from La Bala which is close to where I work most of the time. You order at the counter. I had a small limeade which cost me a whopping $3.99. The cup was full of ice. I ordered a bean gordita which was brought to my table. It is nothing to write home about. I wish the beans were the black kind. A green and red sauce is brought to your table. I put just a bit of red sauce on the gordita to give it flavor. It was hard to cut with plasticware. I don't think I'm returning.

Went around lunch time my break and I will not be returning. It was notably busy inside, however it took a significant amount of time (30 minutes) for 2 burritos. The burrito wasn't good. It was very greasy, the "carne asada" was a weird texture and cut up so small as if it was ground beef. The burrito had no ingredients in it besides meat, beans, and sour cream. Not worth the price point or wait time.

La torta cubana está muy rica, la de la barda está incomible si no comes picante. Yo soy de Tampico Tamaulipas y si la torta de la barda lleva chicharrón pero este está tan picoso que esta INCOMIBLE! Una mordida bastó para llevar la torta de regreso. No me ofrecieron cambiarla ni nada, solo me explicaron que así era, picante. No vuelvo a venir aquí me duele el estómago y ni siquiera pude disfrutar mi comida. Deberían de tener un aviso que diga que la torta es PICANTE, en ningún lado dice que es picante.

Really it's a 4.5 rating... Nice big, clean space... we were greeted with a warm welcome. Pricing and portions were great. Quick service. No complaints. Definitely would come back next time I'm in town.

Taco's are big street tacos. Very good. $3.29 each. Staff was friendly and helpful. Very clean restaurant. I had fajita taco's. Coming back to try the sizzling fajitas.

I have been eating tacos La Bala since their original location in gulfton then starting going to their location in bellaire. I am glad to see this new location in a former free birds location in the medical center. Very clean and hands down best burritos and tacos

The place is clean and welcoming, and the staff is super friendly. I ordered the trompo tacos, beef fajitas, and shared a burrito - everything was delicious. The tortillas are especially tasty and fresh. Great spot for flavorful, authentic food. Definitely recommend it!

Me and my boyfriend were looking for a good taco spot within the Medical Center area and this is now our go to spot! The prices are inexpensive and the tacos are absolutely delicious. We normally either get the street tacos on corn as well as the Birria tacos. They have the green sauce which is our favorite green sauce. It's perfectly spicy and they are not stingy with the sauces like some places are. The workers are very nice and attentive if you decide to dine in. Keep in mind this is not a typical Mexican restaurant so they don't have a full bar, but I did see they had some of your typical beers for purchase and frozen margaritas but I have not tried it
