This was our first time renting from Hertz (we're typically an Enterprise family) but since we got a discount through our AAA membership, we decided to give them a try. It was a quick walk from the airport terminal to the outside area where we waited for a shuttle. We waited for about 15 minutes to be picked up and the shuttle van was FULL (standing room only) A quick ride to the lot and we were able to bypass the lobby area because we had checked in online and were able to go straight to our vehicle. After getting our paperwork and ID checked at the gate, we drove off the lot and were on our way. On our last day in Houston, we pulled into the lot, parked in the express drop off lane, grabed our bags and jumped into the shuttle to get back to the airport. Before we even left the parking lot, I had received a copy of my e return statement, super easy and convenient.

When you check in online and do all the forms they ask of you beforehand the expectation is that the pick up would be a breeze. The lazy attendant (in my humble opinion) told me that because I checked in early on my phone I would have to wait 15 minutes before the system cleared for me to answer questions on my phone. I reluctantly agreed to wait. After 15 minutes, I asked when I should expect the questions to be populated on the site for me to answer, she said I had to wait another 15 minutes. At that point I told her it was unacceptable etc and she literally took care of it within 30 seconds. The excuse for the initial and for the follow up 15 min was because my rental wouldn't start for another 45 minutes. The questions I waited 15 minutes for were bunch of upselling questions (gas, insurance etc.), I guess the corporate thinks the attendants are not asking 10+ upselling questions each time. They had given away the car I had rented, so she gave me a cigar smoke filled SUV which I didn't accept. Then instead of going to bringing me a key from a car she would rent, she told me to basically fetch the key and bring it to her. It took 45+ minutes to rent a car after my first contact with the front desk person. The online check in was mostly a waste. Everyone else from the booth attendant, to the airport shuttle driver who picked me up at 5:30am was pleasant and professional. That is the only reason for the two stars.

SCAM warning. This might be the worst rental experience I've ever had. I returned my car in February and immediately received a notice that I damaged the car. There was no visible damage in the picture and immediately returned from the airport to and talked to the manager. The manager said that the car was under investigation and I couldn't see it. He then told me that it was the car in front of me that was damaged. I later found that woman at the airport and told her that they said that her car was damaged. He then wrote on my rental ticket that there was no damage and canceled it out in the system four months later I received the same incident warning from Hertz and they are processing it. Avoid this rental agency at all cost.

This hertz is usually a go to rent spot and overall, it was a positive experience. They have a solid variety of vehicles to choose from, which makes it easy to find something that suits your needs specially SUVS IMO. (pictures show a Nissan rouge 2025) The cars are generally clean and well-maintained, which is definitely appreciated. Their cars could be cleaned a little bit more thoroughly, however not too shabby. The customer service is friendly and helpful, and the staff does their best to keep things moving. However, the check-in process can be a bit slow at times, especially during busier hours. It's not a huge deal, but it's something to be aware of if you're on a tight schedule. Once you get through the check-in process, everything runs smoothly. The return process is also straightforward, which I appreciated. This Hertz location is reliable and convenient, and I wouldn't hesitate to rent from them again. Just plan a little extra time if you're picking up during a busy period.

Excellent service at Hobby for this Gold member! It was late in the day when we arrived, yet I still had my choice of SUVs! That doesn't always happen. On the way to our hotel I realized that had selected an electronic vehicle, which we absolutely did not want. We drove back and the exchange to gas was fast and painless! The rep even said if we didn't find one we could upgrade up to Five Star or Presidential Circle! It wasn't necessary but I appreciated the offer! Our return was equally fast and smooth. I love Hertz Gold and even though my corporate pricing through work usually offer great deals, I will pay more due to the service.

I had left my prescription goggles in the rental car upon return last time. I was made to wait nearly an hour while the manager kept doing other things. I was not even shown the lost and found articles to find my goggles. The staff should be provided ethical and customer service training. I had sent emails, opened an online ticket but no response. The facility does not accept phone calls. I will write to the CEO and execs to complain.

I rent where I can find a deal and as of late, I've got a few good deals out the Hertz at Hobby Airport. This is a sister company to Thrifty across the street where I get alot of my rentals from, but the difference in inventory and service is like night and day. Service can be slow, but atleast the people are friendly and there's always someone around to help. Every time I have rented here, I have gotten free upgrades and the cars are just about brand new. I will say I wish they would wash and clean the cars alot more thorough than they do. These days, it seems to be the same at all the rental places though. I just rent the night before and give it a nice clean before hitting the road. I still haven't found that perfect car rental spot yet, but this one isn't all that bad. I would rent here again.

So this was my only bad experience in Houston thanks to the joke that this Hertz service was at Hobby airport. So I pre-booked my rental car 2 weeks in advance of coming to Houston so it would be no issues for me & the wife upon landing. That's until I land in Hobby airport to a text telling me my rental is ready click the link so I don't have to wait at the counter. But this n the madness begins cause every time I click the link it keeps crashing saying bad request. So I say ok maybe it's my service cause I'm literally just getting off the plane so we are walking to the Hertz desk only to see it's closed. So at this time I call hertz & which I'm told it's nothing that can be done it's midnight come back tomorrow. But I explain to the woman this is unacceptable cause I literally booked my rental for a midnight pick up & gave my flight info stating that I landed in Houston at 11:40 pm. Hertz customer service still provided me no help luckily it was an employee of Hobby walking by & over heard my phone call. At which time he said they always do this you have to catch the Hertz shuttle to the off site location to get it straight. So I walk outside to literally see the Hertz shuttle loading up we run to catch him the guy literally speeds off so that we miss the shuttle. I call hertz again trying to get assistance (to no avail). At which time the shuttle returns like 35 minutes later takes us to the off site location only to be told they are outta rentals. So instantly I calls hertz again (fifth time now) where I am again advised to come back in the morning. Now mind you I'm from Baltimore, Maryland in a foreign city for the first time at midnight with no clue how to get anywhere. So after going back & forth with Hertz customer service & the guy working the counter named Mario finally gets done helping all the other people who were ahead of me. Mario tells me he doesn't have a rental for my trip cause this Hertz always does this to people coming to Houston. It just takes all the booking requests & locks you into a pre-booked rental despite not having enough rentals available. So then Mario feeling sorry for our situation offers us an electric car for the night so we can at least get to our hotel & get settled. But we have to take it to another Hertz location the next morning to get the rental that I paid for. So I accepted the deal kindly thank & tip Mario for saving us. Thinking my nightmare was over we go check in & get settled. But boy was I wrong I wake up contact Hertz only to have a rude supervisor tell me that he doesn't see what my issue is I got a rental car. But it still gets better I then have to go to 3 different locations only to be told that none of them have rentals available for me to swap out. But then the best part is if I don't get outta the electric car asap I'll be charged the difference because that's not the car that I requested. So at which time I politely cancels my rental agreement & leaves the car at the third location. I apologize for the long review but this is a warning to any of you flying into Houston via Hobby airport PLEASE DO NOT BOOK WITH HERTZ!

This is by far the absolute worst Hertz location we have ever "tried to use". Their 3.6 rating should have been a clue to stay away. On the night of 12-10-24 we had a reservation to be picked up about 9:00pm. Ourselves and a few others stood on the curb for over 1.5 hours waiting for a pick-up. Every other car rental agency came by about every ten minutes. Not one Hertz bus ever showed up. No one ever picked up the phone that rang dozens of times by our small group now. The 800 line was another joke, some offshore idiot that just wanted to rent us a car! But would not deal with our being stranded problems. So after 1.5 hours we jumped in a cab to our hotel. As we left the terminal we asked the cab driver to go by the Hertz lot. They were open (till 12:30am) their busses all sitting in front of their office. Called to make sure we were not charged in the morning (800 line). The agent was condescending and implied we were making it all up! Hertz, you have lost your way, you will never see us again. And they wouldn't even consider paying for our taxi and bringing us a car the next morning. And Hertz, don't bother with your auto cut and paste reply! I'll do it for you: Hi, XXXXX.
