This was my first time going and I had a blast. I only found out about this event the week before so VIP was sold out by the time I bought my ticket, but that was okay. It started at noon but I got there at 3pm. Water Works Park is a cute, enclosed outdoors venue with a spacious, well-manicured lawn area and an elevated graveled trail around the perimeter. There is also a pretty large stage. The margarita booths and food vendors were up on the trail, while the the retail vendors were on the lawn. There were two sections of margarita booths, one for margaritas on the rocks, and another for frozen margaritas. Since I started sweating as soon as I climbed out of my car, I stuck to frozen margaritas. The ticket came with a complimentary margarita and a souvenir cup. You could only buy drinks with tickets, which were sold in groups of 5 and worth $2 each. None of the lines were too long of ridiculous for any of the drinks that I got which was a #winning occurrence for me. The margaritas came in either 8 or 10oz cups (I don't know exactly) which was a pretty good size for someone like me who doesn't drink that often. I tried three different flavors. Green apple, raspberry fusion, and the Henny-rita. Each of them were delicious but that Henny-rita was the most dangerous. I couldn't taste the liquor at all but baayyybehhh did I feel it! There was music playing the entire time I was there and I loved it. There was Brazilian music with dancers, the Bayou City Brass Band, a line dance hour, and Reggae. I was on my feet, dancing and sweating out my liquor and having a great time. Everyone was just having fun which was so nice. There were several generations of people there, from 20s to 60s, and there was nothing but joy and good times. Lastly, there was a good range of cuisines from the food vendors. I ended up getting Thai because the line for the taqueria tacos was RIDIC and the wait was even worse! They must've been grinding the corn to make masa for the tortillas on the spot because baby I don't get why the wait was so crazy. But anyway, I slid right over to the Thai booth where there was no line, had a plate made and handed to me within two minutes. I didn't even know what to get, I just knew I needed to eat something. The woman at the booth decided for me and I ain't mad at her. I had Lao sausage, sticky jasmine rice, and some sort of fried spring roll which reminded me of lumpia but I'm not sure if it's called that in Thailand or not. The food was GOODT! I ate every bite and lowkey wanted seconds. I'll definitely be back when they come around next year!

"Much much much better this year." Those were the first words I could mutter as I walked onto the grounds in the VIP area at Discovery Green. The year before when I got there at 11:00 AM there was nothing setup yet for VIP and it took about 2 hours before we in VIP saw the first chairs come onto the lawn. This year..it was a whole different story. We arrived at about 11:30 AM and their was a VIP entrance exclusively for VIP ticket holders. We were given a blue Cuervo cup to use for refills which was a nice touch vs the thin plastic standard 4oz clear cups you get from the other areas. Every single drink I had that day cost me exactly 1 ticket (which is a buck a ticket) and many times they didn't even accept the ticket. The entire staff was extremely nice and very friendly to us. They kept coming by to see if we were all doing okay. The seating was allot better than last year and the chairs more comfortable. My only issue with that is they had only a limited supply of those cushioned chairs when all VIP paid the same and should be able to relax in the same way. You can't have a VIP within the VIP area...it's not fair for everyone else. Because of this they are certainly losing a star. Although there is still some improvements needed and I'm looking forward to seeing them made for next year, this year was miles ahead of last year. The food selection was great, tasty and FREE all day for VIP. The bathroom accommodations with hand washing included was a nice touch. In VIP we experienced little to no lines at all and this year it wasn't over sold. We were positioned in a great spot to enjoy the band as well as have an area not so loud so you could converse with your friends. The mixed drinks were of high quality and wasn't weak as you would think. They had selections of Grey Goose, Crown, Ciroc Vodka, and a few others all at just $1 for VIP only. Nicely done. Looking forward to next years event. Keep up the good work. Drink Well and Prosper.

The Margarita owns me nothing!!!!!!! I got my life the musics was on bumping, booties we're shaking, the grub was amazing! And all the drinks were bomb!!!!!! I mean bomb I and fat full and happy! I can not wait til next time I'm coming again!

First, let me start by saying we had a great time (Dec 2022). However, there was much lacking. When you think of Margarita you think of Mexican fare, freshness, and culture. This was not it. The margaritas came out of drink machines. The food was your regular carnival food. The event was like a carnival without the rides and games- but there was a DJ. We paid 350 for a bungalow, but we ended up with a cheap tent with 4 folding chairs and a tiny table. Great amenity to offer, but definitely not as advertised and way too expensive for what we got. Next time, I would expect salsa performance, street corn, and other good eats that would accompany a margarita- guacamole and chips, tacos!!!! And of course real margaritas.

This event started off rocky since I paid for VIP and got the basic wristband. After that was all straightened out I actually had a great time and most definitely will go again. I liked the vendors food live entertainment and most definitely the Margaritas. There was something for everybody Latin rock hip hop jazz music. All sorts of food. The VIP area had great seating $1 premium drinks after you bought drink tickets for a $1 so really it was $2. The food was good even had a spot where you could sip and paint. Again much better than previous years it can only get better!

This is by far one of the most poorly executed, over priced, and over hyped festivals in Houston. The drinks are low grade, there is a large cover of $30 and that's just to spend money on over priced drinks. The line was 30 min to an hour to get in. There is little to do once in there. Overall sub par experience, never going back.

This event was a huge waste of money and time. JUST SO EVERYONE IS CLEAR, WHEN YOU PURCHASE TICKETS, nothing is included. So you pay $20 a person for absolutely nothing. The biggest headache was the unbelievably long line to get in. And the line was there for hours. Oh and make sure you are in the correct line or you will have to wait in another line for an hour. Next let's talk about how this event is a rip off. To "buy" margaritas you have to purchase tickets at $2 a piece. So that means to purchase a 6 oz margarita really costs $6 or $8 which frankly is a rip off. You can get a premium margarita 12 oz bowl in some really nice Mexican restaurants for $8-$10!!! Ah the tempting food. We paid $10 for 3 pieces of ribs between two Kroger buns. Why? I don't know...moment of instantly. It tasted ok, but even at Pappas BBQ you can get much more for less. Their were a lot of vendors there trying to sell you things and make you sign up for things. Most of it was irrelevant in my opinion. There was no seating and no shade. And the entertainers on stage? I'll keep that to myself. Needless to say I will NEVER go again. And I hope the city of Houston made someone $$$ off this event cause someone seriously did.

A hot ghetto mess! I knew from the moment I got out of the car and saw a 300 pound girl with a red lace front wig and crop top showing all of her fat but I was in the wrong place. Once I got inside I was not let down. Firstly, Discovery Green is too small to hold this event. On top of that, all of the food and drink stations are concentrated into yet a smaller area. There were so many people it was nearly impossible to walk through, difficult to tell where the lines stopped and started, i'm just flat out annoying. If you were able to find a spot in line good luck with the wait. I waited in line 45 minutes to order and then another 45 minutes for my food to be cooked. The margaritas are a joke. Probably about 6 ounces and you end up paying about eight dollars. But there are so many people that the machines could not keep them frozen so basically the margaritas being given out are half melted slushy's. Basically, I'll never be back. My friends and I ate listen to the music (which is what the one star is for) and left to go have real margaritas at cyclone Anaya's. Do not pay money for this event! Heck, even if it's free don't waste your time.

This year, 2015, the festival was moved to Sunday due to the weather forecast. The festival featured flavors such as jalepeno, melon, lime, grape, green apple, grapefruit, and others. There were stands for on the rocks and frozen drinks. There was also a mixed drink bar with Crown Royal, 1800, and other liquors. The drinks were handed out in 4oz cups. We purchased tickets for $35 for entry and a free drink. The tickets sold for $2 each and the cost for the drinks were 3-4 tickets depending on the type of drink. I spent $40 for 20 tickets and was able to 2 drinks each and 3 shots top go on top. The margaritas had little to no liquor and we very expensive (over $6 each). There were a lot of food vendors but the lines were minimal and the food was good. The music was mostly rock (in the front) or tejano (in the back) until the late evening hours. Needless to say, the margarita festival is definitely a one time event and I'm glad I had a chance to experience it.
