The Houston Police Museum is a quick, informative visit in the downtown Houston area. The museum is free of charge and is only located on the first floor of the building. There is a good amount of street parking and parking lots. Since this visit can be concluded fairly quickly, I would recommend looking at other potential experiences nearby such as Discovery Green, which the kids would also enjoy.

Stopped by the Police Museum to see the wonderful things in there. I love Museum. There is a blue call box they would use to make calls while out on their best. I remember it being around the corner from my house when I was a little girl. The reason I remember it is, on my way to the store on Birdsall a policeman stopped to use it, and it stuck in my mind. A great place to bring kids so they can learn. Ten stars.

Super cool free museum in down town Houston. Its not very big but it has a lot of artifacts from the history of the cities police force. It show cases uniforms and badges from famous police officers, cars, weapons from the early days of policing. Checking in can be a little bit of a hassle but I was expecting it since it is located in the police department. Cool stop if you're looking for a free thing todo in downtown Houston!

So I'm going to preface some reviews I'm about to write with the following: My brother & I were on a road trip from St. Petersburg, FL to Fort Worth, TX. These are the places we hit along the way. They are also in my Yelp! list here: https://www.yelp.com/list/fl-to-tx-road-trip-2018-houston (or in any of the reviews written for the trip). I wish I had noticed this museum is open until 9PM. We would have probably started here, instead of randomly stumbling upon it while walking the streets of downtown Houston late at night. As it was, all we could do was look through the windows, which was pretty interesting, especially after noticing the helicopter hanging from the ceiling. I also liked seeing the Motorola radio on the three-wheeled police vehicle. I have found memories of both, from my time in Chicago. So, I can't really comment on the inside of the museum, but the view from outside is pretty good. Next time I am Houston, I will probably check it out, all the procedure to get in is rather intimidating (see Denise W.'s review). Bottom line: If you are wandering at night, do look in.

The museum is very small. But the information and artifacts were really interesting. It was right around the corner from our hotel and my daughter really wanted to go. It was a nice way to spend 30 minutes and the officers who walked us through the check in process were extra friendly.

I got a bit intimidated going to this museum. First you have to go through a metal detector thing and then they x-ray your bags. Then you have to go in and have a short interview with a police officer and then they take your ID and scan it and give you a sticker to visit the museum. Its too much work to go visit a museum. The Asian police officer asked me where is British Columbia but luckily his colleague knows it in Canada. Maybe he should come visit Canada which is the Great North. So this museum is free. It also opens late till 9pm. The museum is super small. You can basically see everything from the outside. Not too interesting. But again this museum is free. Free museum are usually small and doesn't have much to see because they are free. Its weird that this museum is basically the police station.

I pass by this place everyday to and from work and sometimes venture inside when I have spare time. The one thing that keeps catching my eye is the helicopter. That thing is small! It looked like someone took a V6 out of a truck, threw a pod on top with a few blades for good measure and a off we go! Personally I'd be very afraid to be in that thing if anything mechanical should fail but I guess it really worked at one time. The items, various things to see from past to present, you should check it out sometime at least once in your life. An eyesore is there is something being constructed in front of it.

So I thought I had been to all of the random museums in Houston. Until i read a recent article about nerdy things to do in Houston and this place popped up. So I dragged my gf on a weekday evening and we toured the place. It's just in the lobby in the police station. When you go at night, the security is crazy, cause they're probably thinking we were weirdos visiting. They check your ID before you get to enter, so make sure no warrants out for your arrest! When you're inside there is a decent amount of memorabilia over the years, and a separate area for you to do your own rubbings of names.
